Research Paper #1 Career Analysis Research Paper Guidelines TOPIC:
Investigate a job/profession/career area you are considering, such as nursing, accounting,
criminal justice, computers, business management, engineering, etc. Specify your job title:
parole officer, pediatric nurse, physical therapist, social worker, etc. LENGTH:
A minimum of eight (8) typed (double-spaced) pages, not including the title page, formal
outline, and “Works Cited” page. SOURCES:
A minimum of eight (8) current sources. Vary your sources (government publications, EBSCOhost Databases, Internet, etc.). As part of your sources, you must include the following:
1. Occupational Outlook Handbook
2. America’s Career Infonet
3. At least two sources from EBSCOhost (Academic Search Premier, etc.)

5. At least one article from a web site
6. At least one table, chart, or graph
All sources must be submitted with the final paper.
In addition, you should conduct at least one personal interview with a person who is working in your career area and incorporate this information throughout your paper.
Don’t use family members or friends for the required interview and don’t substitute
a telephone or email interview for the required personal interview. I want you to leave
your comfort zone and meet new people. Although you may certainly use these resources as additional sources to go beyond the minimum requirements and enrich your paper, they cannot substitute the personal interview requirement. Audience:
Your audience for this essay will be students interested in pursuing a career in your chosen field. This essay is not about your goals and aspirations; it’s about your career. Assume the persona of an authority in the field; after all, you will be quite knowledgeable after having done your research. Your job is to educate your audience about your chosen field so that your reader can make an informed career decision.
FORMAT:
Since this paper is longer and more complex than those you were asked to write for Composition I, you will need to use headings and subheadings to guide your reader through the text. Read carefully the information provided for levels of headings. In addition, your instructor will help you use headings correctly.
Documentation must follow the new MLA style of documentation as well as manuscript form:
1. One inch margins on all sides
2. 12 pts. font size
3. Times New Roman font style
4. Effective use of headings and subheadings
5. Formal outline, the text, and a “Works Cited” page

If your paper is missing any of these requirements, it will not receive a passing grade. EVALUATION:
The final research paper will be evaluated on the following criteria: clarity of purpose, correctness of documentation, smoothness of source integration and variety of sources, clarity of organization, effective use of topic sentences and transitions, correct use of headings and subheadings, mechanics, and individual style. Your research paper will receive a grade that will include points earned for each assignment listed in your Schedule of Assignments. This grade will be worth 30% of your final grade. DUE DATES:
You will receive credit for each assignment in the process of writing the paper. You will receive credit only if you complete each step on the date it is due and you have followed the instructions for preparing the assignment. If your assignment is late, don’t fail to submit it anyway. The feedbacks you receive on these assignments are crucial to successful completion of your final paper. You may not receive full credit, but you will receive some points, plus feedback.
As per the syllabus, the edited draft and the final draft MUST be submitted in order to pass the course, REGARDLESS of the grade you receive on either. For example, if you are late and receive a zero on the edited draft, you still must submit it in order to be allowed to submit the final draft.

Also explain how to integrate clinical inquiry into the organization, providing strategies that strengthen the organizations weaker areas. Submit a rough draft of the survey results with your narrative analysis. However, a final draft of the survey results should be placed in the appendices for the final paper. Write a paper of 500-750 words (not including the title page and reference page) on your proposed problem description for your EBP project. The paper should address the following: Describe the background of the problem. Tell the story of the issue and why it deserves attention. Identify the stakeholders/change agents. Who, or what organizations, are concerned, may benefit from, or are affected by this proposal. List the interested parties, patients, students, agencies, Joint Commission, etc. Use the feedback from the Topic 2 main forum post and refine your PICOT question. Make sure that the question fits with your graduate degree specialization. State the purpose and project objectives in specific, realistic, and measurable terms. The objective should address what is to be gained. This is a restatement of the question, providing focus. Measurements need to be taken before and after the evidence-based practice is introduced to identify the expected changes. 5) Provide supportive rationale that the problem or issue is an important one for nursing to resolve using relevant professional literature sources. Develop an initial reference list to assure that there is adequate literature to support your evidence-based practice project. Hourly rounds—intentionally checking on patients at regular intervals—continues to be debated in nursing circles. Often, registered nurses make rounds on even hours and support staff make rounds on odd hours from 6 AM to 10 PM (and every 2 hours from 10 PM to 6 AM). While making rounds, staff engage patients by checking on the “4 P’s”: pain, positioning, potty (elimination), and proximity of personal items. Patients are told that staff will check on them frequently, so hourly rounds help manage patients’ expectations. Patients become less anxious about getting their needs met as they learn to trust the process of hourly rounds.
Attending to patients’ comfort, safety, and environmental needs may also prevent adverse events like falls, pressure ulcers, or unrelieved pain; and contribute to patients’ satisfaction with nursing care. Proponents also attest that hourly rounds organize work flow, offering efficiencies by giving nurses time back as they proactively (rather than reactively) anticipate and attend to patients’ needs. In this review I discuss available evidence about the effects of hourly rounds on clinical outcomes in inpatient settings.

Smart opened a salon on Main Street in the Westside neighborhood of Springfield in 1986. Recently, due to a boom in the real estate market by young professionals, the

landlord of the salon has nearly doubled Smart’s rent. Many new chain stores, restaurants, and coffee shops are lining up to pay the increased rent, but Smart can no

longer afford to stay in business on Main Street. In an attempt to keep her business running and continue to provide services for her clients, she is now operating out

of the basement of her home .
3.    What is your purpose for writing? (What do you hope to accomplish? Why are you writing?)
The purpose is to describe Smart’s struggle to stay in business due to rent increases on Main Street as a larger indication of the negative results that have come from

the neighborhood’s growth .

The Westside community is unique in that it’s an old neighborhood with a great deal of history. As many of the older, longtime residents are dying, moving into nursing

homes, or downsizing in other areas of the city, young professionals have started moving in. When these college-educated men and women started to buy real estate in

the area, the commercial district also boomed. Over the last 5 years as the real estate boom has only continued to rise, many longtime retailers can’t afford the rent

increases and are being forced out in exchange for new businesses.
Springfield’s older residents have built a relationship with the older retailers in town and are committed to giving them their business. They are not happy about the

chain coffee shops or other franchises moving in. Interestingly the independent nature of the commercial district is what originally attracted many of the younger

population, yet they are giving their business to the new, higher-end retailers that are replacing many of the older shops.
The community is represented by new shop owners who are thriving and old retailers that are barely hanging on or are forced to close or relocate. Their customers are

also a mix of new and longtime residents, but the new, young professionals are quickly becoming the majority. They are college-educated with young children, and most

are married . My tone will need to be formal because this is primarily a well-educated group. It will not be appropriate to use humor or sarcasm. I should approach the

audience with respect and understanding, yet be sincere in expressing concerns. It will be important to really describe Joelle with details and descriptions so that

the readers feel as if they know her and care about her .
Reflecting on the Role of the Writer
Whether you realize it or not, your personal relationship to the subject plays a key role in shaping the Profile essay. Remember, your personal brand is shaped, in

many ways, by your community influences. Just as you make choices in terms of how you present your brand through writing, personal choices will also impact how you

Joelle Smart has been my hairdresser for nearly 15 years as I am one of the older residents of my neighborhood. She and many of the other longtime retailers have

become close friends, and I have always valued supporting local businesses. It’s hard to watch these friends struggle to pay their rents and stay in business. However,

in all honesty, I’ve enjoyed watching my neighborhood’s transition over the years. The energy of the young professionals has brought more culture and events to the

area, and our property values have increased with the surge in the real estate market. Still, I hate to see high-end retailers replace family-owned businesses that

have been a part of the community for years.
I will continue to be a client of Joelle’s in her basement salon, but I am concerned that her clientele will decline. Many of the young residents would prefer to visit

a salon right on Main Street and they will probably find her basement location less than hip. Without the Main Street location, it will be hard for Joelle to attract

new clientele. I’d like the community to realize the struggle that Joelle and other retailers are facing, and I hope to encourage them to continue to support her

business and the other older businesses in town. I’d also like them to realize the larger impact of so many new franchises coming into the area and warn them that we

are losing our independent roots by supporting these businesses .
