Anne has been in foster care for the past 6 months and has thrived during that time. Anne’s therapist has indicated that Anne really loves her biological parents and enjoys visiting with them, but is ambivalent about returning home. Anne’s biological parents have had a difficult time complying with required services but Anne’s mother has made more progress than Anne’s father.

  • Anne’s mother entered drug treatment and has maintained sobriety for the past 90-days and is contemplating getting her own apartment so that Anne can come home.
  • Anne’s father has begun anger management classes but has been resistant to individual and family therapy.

As the assigned caseworker, you still have concerns about Anne’s safety, but recognize that the goal for this family is reunification. Based on the case file and the current progress in services, you have to make a recommendation to the court about possible reunification.

Draft a 2-3 paragraph  progress report with recommendations to the Court and include the following information:

  • Given the allegations, is reunification possible for this family?
  • If you are recommending reunification, are you recommending Anne return to one or both parents?
  • What services would need to continue in order for Anne to return home?
  • Does Anne’s ambivalence about returning home make a difference in your recommendation?
  • When commenting to peers, consider the points you agree or disagree with in their recommendations. Be sure to be respectful and support you opinions.

In your own words, please post a response to the Discussion Board and comment on other postings. You will be graded on the quality of your postings.

Response to Discussion Post

Read the following post.  Substantively comment on the entry comments of no less than 200 words.

The response must beOur implication in economies of slavery is structurally similar to German citizens implications in systematic murder of Jews during World War II. Just as the Jews were gathered and taken to the camps, people are gathered all over the world and taken to work. All of the people have lived or are still living under the threat of violence and unable to leave the situation. In the slavery video it mentions that the people are used to work and then tossed away like garbage. The gathering and murdering of Jews was similar. They were human lives taken for granted and tossed away like garbage, piled upon one another in mass graves. In both circumstances the rights of all the victims were and are extremely violated.

The dangers of customary behavior can happen when people are so use to their customs and culture, that they don’t second guess them. Such as issues that deal with inhumane or immoral conduct. One must go against the cultural norm to stop the customary behavior. There are also times when customary behavior is necessary. It helps societies in making a platform for what is acceptable and what is not. Most of the time, a moral life can be distinguished by the fact that an individual is following customary behavior. When they deviate or try to change things, they can be seen as immoral.

3. Another way of talking about ‘customary behavior’ is the expression ‘doing what people do’, or ‘that’s just what people do’, or something to that effect. Write about some ways that we ‘do what people do’ that is indicative of the kind of thing Bohme is talking about. Then, write about any practices you can think of that are moral practices in the sense that Bohme means. I had a hard time being able to answer this prompt. Bohme is extremely difficult for me to follow and understand. I find myself really confused by his writing style. However if I just write about what I see people doing because thats what they do, I would have to say life in general. Most people wake up eat, carry out daily routines and sleep, only to get up and do it all the next day.

I was surprised at the amount of items I use that encompass slavery. How is that possible, and is there any way around it? It seems as if everyone plays a role in it just as if it were customary. However, we all know that it is not moral. How does one go about changing these slavery practices? If I don’t even know what I am doing to cause or encourage slavery, how is it possible to stop? Is it possible to find out the origin of every product I use? For that matter, is it possible to find out those products products? I know that any moral life I may live is inherited, taught, and believed. It is all around me in society and culture. Ultimately I understand that I am responsible for my own morality and to question the customary practices of my times

Individual: Designing Forms

Resource: Ch. 10, “Designing Forms and Reports”.

Will provide link to book

Design two forms for a new software application or business web app that will collect data from its user.

Draw these two forms.  You may use free tools, such as Pencil Project, Microsoft® Paint, Mockabilly (and many others) to create the mock-up interfaces; or you may draw the new forms on a piece of paper and then, take a picture of it.

Include the two forms in your Microsoft® PowerPoint®.

Prepare an 8- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation that explains the purpose of the new forms (e.g. what data are being collected, why, what will it do with this data, etc.).

Describe how these new forms meet usability standards.

Incorporate additional research or academic information to support your presentation.

Format your PowerPoint® according to APA guidelines.

MBAA 523 Advanced Aviation Economics – Problem Set 7

Problem Set 7 Key r 6 -16

1.       Between 1995 and 1997, American Airlines competed with several low-cost-carriers on routes from Dallas/Fort Worth.  The US Department of Justice sued alleging predatory pricing.  A judge disagreed.  Read this article from the Wall Street Journal (available through the Hunt Library ProQuest database):

Wilke, J. R., & McCartney, S. (2001, April 30).  American Airlines secures antitrust win — Judge dismisses U.S. case, says competitive moves were company’s right.  Wall Street Journal (Eastern edition), pp. A.3.

The antitrust legal standard for predatory pricing is pricing below variable or marginal cost.  Discuss why the plaintiffs lost this case in the face of what most lay people would consider predatory pricing.  Hint:  Consider how to compute marginal cost for an airline.

2.       The archetypal low-cost-airline operates a point-to-point route structure with no passenger connections available to other flights in the LCC’s route system.  If an LCC is operating a 150 seat aircraft in city-pair A-B, how many passengers must be bound for B to achieve an 80% load factor (don’t overthink this, it’s easy!)?

3.       Most large airlines operate networks, or hub-and-spoke systems, which connect many spoke cities (or nodes) with flights to and from a hub airport.

a.       A network carrier serves 39 spoke cities from a single hub.  How many city-pairs does it serve?  (A city-pair is City A to City B.  City A to City B and City B to City A are consider just one city-pair)

b.       This same airline adds a 40th spoke city to its network serving the city with a 100 seat capacity aircraft. Consider the morning flight from this new spoke city to the hub.  How many passengers on average does the airline need to attract to each of the possible network destinations to achieve an 80% load factor on this flight?

c.       How can a network airline profitably serve smaller cities than a low-cost-airline? (Hint:  Consider 2b above).

d.       A network carrier serves some small cities close to its hub with regional jets which have much higher seat-mile-costs (CASM) than larger mainline jets.  The average fare from these cities to the hub does not cover fully allocated costs.  Is this rational?

e.       Networks are subject to negative externalities.  How might such externalities affect a network carrier’s decision to add another spoke city to its network?  Explain.  (You may wish to use marginal benefit/cost analysis).

4.       In the early 1990s, Airbus and Boeing were both considering building a new Very Large Aircraft (VLA).  Airbus faced this decision tree.  Boeing’s decision was similar.  Why did only Airbus build the VLA, the A-380?  “A” in the decision tree is Airbus and “B” is Boeing.  “Build” indicates the decision to build the VLA and enter the marketplace.  Similarly, “Don’t Build” is a decision not to build a VLA and not to enter the marketplace.  The numbers in parentheses indicate the 20 years incremental profit in billions of dollars for Airbus and Boeing.
