The purpose of this assignment is for the nursing education student to have a forum to showcase personal achievements and to demonstrate current qualifications in preparation for certification as a nurse educator or in seeking a position as a nurse educator.

There is no one right way to submit a portfolio. Organizations that utilize this format for clinical advancement and/or peer review may have a standard format that is to be followed for submission. Organizations may also require a portfolio as part of a job application. These may or may not have specific formatting guidelines. Good morning Professor and fellow students,

Here we are in the last discussion of the class. Time has gone by quick here. This has been a great class and easing myself back into the classroom environment has been enjoyable. I hope to see you all in my future courses as well. Now on with the show…

The AACN BSN Essential that I have chosen to discuss today is Essential IV: Information Management and Application of Patient Care Technology. Graduates must have basic competence in technical skills, which includes the use of computers, as well as the application of patient care technologies such as monitors, data gathering devices, and other technological supports for patient care interventions (AACN Essentials, 2018).

Previously being in the tech field before entering nursing, I’ve seen a lot of nurses and even doctors having trouble with the technology whether it’s the computers, scanners, software, etc. There is so much that can be done with the technology but it just needs to be taught properly and in a way that won’t make the user feel it’s too complicated. I see my career vision being nursing informatics. I feel I could be a great asset to help others not feel intimidated by the technology. The ideal professional nursing career vision would include nursing-related passions (Hood, 2018, p. 552).

Essential V: Health care policy, Finance, and Regulatory Environments seem to be one for the most part that wouldn’t impact my future practice too much. The Healthcare policy is very important but the finance and regulatory stuff I would leave to the much higher powers that be.

Professional nursing organizations such as American Nurses Association, State Nurses Associations and National Nurses in Business Association offer opportunities to the members who engage in networking since it involves many groups specializing in different fields in nursing (Catalano, 2015). These specialty groups are always open to those nurses who are willing to join. Additionally, networking presents limitless opportunities to those nurses who get involved as well as become engaged in its activities (Catalano, 2015). Additionally, these organizations promote career advancement among nurses as a result of joining professional societies. This helps the nurses to meet like-minded professionals who can help them in gaining insight of the dynamics in the nursing profession.

Currently, the nursing practice is surrounded by laws, regulations and policies which are executed by the government’s agencies and institutions as well as private sector institutions (Thomas & Sigma Theta Tau International, 2013). It is in the interest of professional nursing organizations to conduct policy workshops for the nurses to be able to get more insight on matters pertinent to healthcare and legislative processes. In these workshops, the organizers provide advocates whose role is to mentor nurses on legislative experiences so as to impact the nursing profession legislatively in a positive manner (Thomas & Sigma Theta Tau International, 2013). In this way, the nurses become more knowledgeable in legislative issues surrounding their profession.
