Write a 750- to 1000-word essay in which you present the argument you have determined and discuss what evidence and literary devices the author employs to support that argument.

Question Description

PLEASE FOLLOW THE REQUIREMENTS

  • Choose any short story or poem in your textbook or online anthology that will not be covered in class. You may choose one outside the book, but it’s recommended that you get instructor approval to ensure that you know how to cite it.
  • After having carefully read the work, determine an argument that the work presents. Use the Chapter 6 or 7 as well as the Literary Analysis Thesis handout you’ve been provided to help you formulate your argument. Examine what evidence in the story supports that argument. Ordinarily, such arguments are not explicitly stated in the text.
  • Write a 750- to 1000-word essay in which you present the argument you have determined and discuss what evidence and literary devices the author employs to support that argument. Provide textual evidence for each example, which can be quoted or paraphrased. Use quotes sparingly. Should you use quotes, make sure that you provide a thorough analysis for each.
  • Format your essay to conform to the MLA Handbook, Eighth Edition. All examples you provide from the text must include properly formatted in-text or parenthetical citations in order to meet minimum standards. Use the Parenthetical Documentation handout to help. Never just guess.
  • Include a correctly formatted Works Cited page. Entries must have hanging indents. For this essay, you need only cite the story you are analyzing. An Essay submitted without a Works Cited page will receive a grade of F.
  • Seek instructor, librarian, or Center for Reading and Writing assistance if you are not 100% certain that you are citing correctly.
  • Proofread your work for grammar, usage, spelling, and clarity before submitting it.
  • Essay standards for the course are outlined in the syllabus.
  • Refer to the rubric for grading standards.

An 8- to 11-slide presentation

Step 1 Review nursing implications.

Refer to textbook readings and additional current medication and nursing resources regarding the treatment of osteoporosis.

Consider the pathophysiology of osteoporosis, including those medications often indicated.Step 2 Read the patient scenario.

An 86-year-old female has been diagnosed with osteoporosis after a fall, which resulted in a fractured left hip. The hip has been repaired and the patient is being discharged to home this afternoon. Her daughter cares for her and has verbalized questions about how to increase her calcium.Step 3 Develop a plan of care.

Create an 8- to 11-slide presentation with the following format:

  • A title slide
  • A minimum of two slides describing the pathophysiology of osteoporosis and addressing the types of fractures that may occur. Include the most common locations of those fractures. Explain it rare to see osteoporosis in children.
  • A minimum of two slides addressing the pharmacologic treatment of osteoporosis
  • A minimum of one slide with a table including dietary sources of calcium and the amount of calcium in each source
  • A minimum of one slide including at least safety considerations for this patient
  • A reference slide listing any resources used to prepare your presentation

Step 4 Add presenter’s notes.

Include talking points and details in the notes area for each slide. These notes should document what you would say to an audience about each slide if you were to present in person.

  17. Identify your research topic in one or two sentences

Grove, Gray, and Polit (2015) define a research topic as “a concept or broad issue that is important to nursing, such as acute pain, chronic pain management, coping with illness, or health promotion” (p. 131). The topic you choose should be one that you are interested about that could be a situation occurring within your personal practice setting that is researchable.

  1. Write your research problem that explains the background situation and justify its significance as to why it is important to research and how it could contribute to the profession of nursing. Cite scholarly source/s
  2. Develop your research question

Research questions should be short, concise, probing, and include measurable variables. Grove, Gray & Polit, 2015).

Formulate a research question that includes the measurable independent and dependent variables and who or what will comprise the population. Within your research question, identify in parentheses the independent and dependent variables. [note: If you chose a correlation vs. explanatory design, identify the predictor and criterion variables in parentheses]

Describe the kinds of evidence that a plaintiff can present in order to establish a negligent act.

  • Describe the kinds of evidence that a plaintiff can present in order to establish a negligent act. What defenses can a defendant present in order to refute a plaintiff’s evidence?
  • How do statutes of limitations protect professional nurse-defendants? Do they also protect the injured parties?
  • What can staff nurses do to protect patients from quasi-intentional torts? Does this differ from the nurse manager’s role in preventing quasi-intentional torts?
  • Read the case study presented at the end of Chapter 5 (Guido, p. 67).
    • Does the failure to document an admission nursing assessment equate with the fact that this nurse did no admission nursing assessment?
    • What might the patient’s attorney further allege in his supplemental report?
    • How would one decide the standard of care for this patient?
    • How would you decide the outcome of this case?
  • Read the case study presented at the end of Chapter 6 (Guido, p. 96)
    • Was there negligence in this case and who should be liable for the negligence?
    • What type of damages should be assessed and how would you begin to determine the amount to assess?
    • Given that there were multiple individuals involved in this case as well as the institution that employed these individuals, how would you determine the percentage of liability for the multiple defendants, assuming that more than one defendant should be assessed with damages?
    • How would you decide this case?
  • Read the case study presented at the end of Chapter 7(Guido, p. 115)
    • Were there damages that should be paid to this patient for negligence?
    • Who should be the individuals responsible for these damages? For example, is the surgeon the individual most liable for the damages owed to the patient?
    • Should the Bovie manufacturer also have been included in the lawsuit?
    • Are there any defenses that the defendants could cite that would mitigate their liability to this patient?
    • How should the court decide the damage awards in this instance?

Understanding nursing research

Please respond with a paragraph to the following post, add citations and references.

The four most commonly used designs for research studies are descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental, and experimental.”(Grove, Gray & Burns, 2015). Descriptive and correlational designs can be referred to as non-experimental designs because the focus is on examining variables as they naturally occur in environments and not in the implementation of a treatment by the researcher.

Experimental research is when a researcher is able to manipulate the predictor variable and subjects to identify a cause-and-effect relationship. This typically requires the research to be conducted in a lab, with one group being placed in an experimental group, or the ones being manipulated, while the other is placed in a placebo group, or inert condition or non-manipulated group. A laboratory-based experiment gives a high level of control and reliability. .(Sousa, Driessnack & Menders, 2007).

Non-experimental research is the label given to a study when a researcher cannot control, manipulate or alter the predictor variable or subjects, but instead, relies on interpretation, observation or interactions to come to a conclusion. Typically, this means the non-experimental researcher must rely on correlations, surveys or case studies, and cannot demonstrate a true cause-and-effect relationship. Non-experimental research tends to have a high level of external validity, meaning it can be generalized to a larger population. .(Sousa, Driessnack & Menders, 2007).

What are some non-traditional ways that you have come up with as a nurse to educate your patients and family members?

Please make a comment to the text below, (don’t forget references and citation if used)

Health promotion is the act of educating people about healthy lifestyles, reduction of risk, developmental needs, activities of daily living and preventive self-care (ANA, 2007). Continuously educating towards health promotion is extremely important in any nurses role. Education applies to both patient and family members in the healthcare setting and should begin as soon as the nurse steps into a patients care. For patients, it is important to ensure that they are receiving quality care and that their providers are implementing quality educational interventions based on the patients’ specific educational needs (Grand Canyon University, 2018).

The nursing process should be incorporated into developing a health plan with the patient and family members by utilizing the assessment that was done and determining what will be beneficial for successful outcomes. An example may include a patient that is total knee replacement in the post-operative phase that will need education regarding discharge planning and home adjustments. A nurse would collaborate with appropriate interdisciplinary teams that can assist the patients outcome but also be cognoscente of specific needs. The nurse should assess the learning needs of the patient, characteristics of the learner, and any barriers to learning that might exist (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Also, as a part of the nursing process an overall assessment of the patient, family, and home life would be important to consider when deciding what educational needs the patient and family may benefit from.

What are some non-traditional ways that you have come up with as a nurse to educate your patients and family members?
