What is the value of advocacy in global health? How can you use it in your future profession?

In this final journal, you will reflect on the concepts and skills learned in this course. What is the value of advocacy in global health? How can you use it in your future profession? What new perspective have you gleaned? What inspiration did you find in any of the advocates or issues you were exposed to during the course? Ultimately, has your understanding of your role in advocacy changed as you moved through the course? If so, how? If not, explain why you think that might be and if you think you still have room for growth.

Calculate Probabilities with the Binomial Distribution and the Central Limit Theorem I

Week 7 – Assignment: Calculate Probabilities with the Binomial Distribution and the Central Limit Theorem
Part 1Explain when the binomial distribution is appropriate. Hint: There are four necessary conditions.
In a group of 12 registered voters, there are five Republicans. You choose three of the voters at random and ask their party affiliation. The distribution of the number of Republicans you choose is binomial. Give the appropriate values for n and p.
Suppose that in a quality control study it was determined that for a perishable item the number X of defective items follows a binomial distribution with n= 10 and p = .12. Find the probability that a sample of 10 contain no more than one defective item.
A study shows that 80% of all people over the age of 70 in certain city are retired. Assuming a binomial model is appropriate, find the following probabilities for a sample of 15 people who are over 70.
a) Exactly 10 are retired.
b) At least 10 are retired.
c) At most 10 are retired.
Explain the difference between the Law of Large numbers and the Central Limit theorem.
Annual returns on stocks are known to vary. Suppose that during a recent year, the mean return was 10.6% and the standard deviation of returns was 32.3%. One of the statements below is correct. Identify which one is correct and explain why. The law of large numbers states that:
a) You can get an average return higher than 10.6% if you invest in an extremely large number of stocks.
b) If you invest in more and more stocks selected at random, then your average return on these stocks will get closer and closer to 10.6%.
c) When you invest in a large number of stocks chosen at random, your average return will approach a Normal distribution.
Part 2 Ray Allen, who is one of the best 3-point shooters over the last 15 years in the NBA, has a chance to shoot four free throws. He was fouled shooting a 3-point shot, and he gets to take a fourth shot due to a technical foul. Suppose that the probability that he makes a free throw is .9, and his free throws are independent of each other. Let X be the random variable that gives the number of free throws made in 4 attempts.
a) Give the possible values for X. What type of distribution model is appropriate? Explain why.
b) Obtain the probability distribution for x.
c) Indicate what the probability is for Ray Allen to make three or more of the free throws.
Suppose that in a quality control study it was determined that for a perishable item the number X of defective items follows a binomial distribution with n= 20 and p = .10.
a) Find the probability that a sample of 20 contain no more than two defective items.
b) If one were to take many samples of 20 and found the mean number of defectives in each sample, what should we expect for the mean and standard deviation of the number of defectives?
This problem is motivated by the study: http://site.iugaza.edu.ps/wdaya/files/2013/03/A-Random-Walk-Down-Wall-Street.pdf
The random walk theory of stock markets implies that an index of stock prices has probability 0.63 of increasing in any year. In addition, the change in the index in any year is not influenced by whether it goes up or down in an earlier year. Suppose that X is the number of years among the next six years in which the index rises.
a) Assuming that X has a binomial distribution, give are the values of n and p.
b) What is the set of values that X can attain?
c) Calculate the probability of each of the values of X given in part b. You can use the Excel BINOM.DIST function. Include the Excel function used and its result in your Word document.
d) Use Excel to construct a bar chart for the probabilities. The values of X should be on the horizontal axis, and the probabilities on the vertical axis. For information on how to use the BINOM.DIST function use the Excel help option or visit the website: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/BINOM-DIST-function-c5ae37b6-f39c-4be2-94c2-509a1480770c This Binomial distribution Excel function is especially useful when the value of n is large or p is not available in binomial tables. Copy and paste the bar chart into your Word document.
e) What are the mean and standard deviation of this distribution?4. Probabilities for the binomial distribution can be calculated in Excel using the BINOM.DIST function. For information on how to use the Excel help option or visit the website: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/BINOM-DIST-function-c5ae37b6-f39c-4be2-94c2-509a1480770c This Excel function is especially useful when the value of n is large or p is not available in binomial tables. Suppose that X follows a binomial distribution, where n = 100 and p = .45. Use Excel to find:
a) The probability that X = 50. Hint, use FALSE for the cumulative argument.
b) The probability that X 50. Hint, use TRUE for the cumulative argument.
c) The probability that X > 50.
d) The probability that 40 X 55.Include the Excel function used and its result in your Word document. Length: 5- 7 pages References: Include a minimum of two scholarly peer-reviewed resources.Upload your document and click the Submit to Dropbox button.Due Date

How is the role of managing school-aged students different from managing adults?

How is the role of managing school-aged students different from managing adults? Discuss the differences. The age difference between adults and kids plays a huge role from managing school-aged students and managing adults. Adults are often less attention seeking, when working with school ages students they often require a lot of attention and redirecting. Adults also often have more of an attention span and more independence. Adults can often focus longer on lectures and take notes on their own, however school ages students are the complete opposite. They have short attention spans and often times need a lot of assistance. School ages students also need bathroom breaks, they cant really seem to hold their bladder. Adults can be given one assignment in one way all the time, however kids needs a variety of activities and options. Adults are generally in the classroom because they choose, where as kids have to be there. Next discipline, adults know the rules and if they dont follow them then they get the punishment, kids often gets a few chances before disciplined. Last, kids often bring enthusiasm and curiosity to the classroom, where as adults bring life experience. There are so many differences between kids and adults they both bring unique things to the classroom. Reference:

While globalization at times is an overwhelming concept, it can be readily grasped in our daily lives:Discuss

Problem 1 [10 pts.]
While globalization at times is an overwhelming concept, it can be readily grasped in our daily lives. This course itself is a great example as we come together from all over the world to learn and share ideas together! Prepare a table listing of various products that you use or consumer in your daily life and countries of their origin. Group these products into categories, such as, for example (you may also include another category of your own making):
Food Technology Media
Clothing Furniture Cleaning supplies
In each category include at least 12 items; whenever possible include an image of the original label of the product and its country of origin. How do you think these product got here, to you?Problem 2 [10 pts.]
Apply the Blue Ocean Strategy approach to assess the content and format of the 91201 course. Identify a few general course characteristics which you think all courses of value should have. You may start with a list of a few things which you think have worked well in this class, and other that perhaps did not. Was there anything that has surprised you (either positively or negatively)? Is there anything that needs to be changed in the course? Either because there should be MORE of something or LESS of something else, or something should be ADDED because it was not covered at all? Compare this course with 23 courses of your choice that you may have taken this term or in the past.
Use the Strategy Canvas we have used in class (T10) for your comparison and provide summary of your analysis.Problem 3 [10 pts.]
A lay summary is a brief summary of a research project or a research proposal that has been written for members of the public, rather than researchers or professionals. It should be written in plain English, avoid the use of jargon and explain any technical terms that have to be included. The lay summary should address the essential questions: Who, What, Where, When, Why and How? It should also give the reader a reason to care about what you do (e.g., address the so what? question) by explaining the works relevance to the general community.
The summary should not exceed 120 words, and not be shorter than 95.
Note: The first draft of your summary will be used in the T10 tutorial (Mon., Nov. 26), where you will be required to revise it according to the ABT rules. In your submission include both your initial draft and the final, revised version.

Problem 4 [20 pts.]
Answer the following questions:
1. [5 pts.] What did you learn in this course (about the subject matters, yourself and your teammates)?
2. [2.5 pts.] How do you know that you learned what you claim you learned?
3. [2.5 pts] How do you plan to use/apply what you have learned? Is anything you learned of immediate value (e.g.,
you can start using it right away)?
4. [10 pts.] Write a short essay (up to 250 words, but no less than 220). The essay should take a form of a letter
addressed to the future student(s) of the Engineering Management & Globalization class. In a letter to a future fellow student, who may follow in your footsteps next time the course is offered, explain briefly what you are studying, and what you value most of things you have learned in this class that may be useful in pursuing your studies (be specific). Provide also any useful tips in terms of studying strategies, work on assignments, etc. Anything you wish had known before taking the class (e.g., things to do or to avoid).
Hint: Use the rephrased questions as the headings of the corresponding subsections.

Do you agree with Lengauers quote that it is important to know about Henrietta Lacks?

During Skloot and Deborah’s meeting with Christoph Lengauer, Lengauer emphasizes the importance of Henrietta Lackss contribution to science and how she is remembered in the medical community. Langauer states, “Whenever we read books about science, it’s always HeLa this and HeLa that. Some people know those are the initials of a person, but they don’t know who that person is. That’s important history. Write a 525- to 700-word article that addresses the following: Evaluate whether the book effectively illustrates the significance of Henrietta Lackss life, her contributions to science, and their impact on her family. Answer the following questions in your evaluation: -Are there problematic elements as to how Skloot portrays Lacks and her family? -Do you agree with Lengauers quote that it is important to know about Henrietta Lacks? Why or why not? -Explain how learning about Henrietta Lackss story helped you become a more ethical leader. -Provide 2 to 3 examples of what medical professionals can do to prevent unethical practices.

Describe Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis

Purpose of Assignment The Case Study focuses on CVP (Cost-Volume-Profit), break-even, and margin of safety analyses which allows students to experience working through a business scenario and applying these tools in managerial decision making. Assignment Steps Resources: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Tutorial help on Excel and Word functions can be found on the Microsoft Office website. There are also additional tutorials via the web offering support for Office products. Scenario: Mary Willis is the advertising manager for Bargain Shoe Store. She is currently working on a major promotional campaign. Her ideas include the installation of a new lighting system and increased display space that will add $24,000 in fixed costs to the $270,000 in fixed costs currently spent. In addition, Mary is proposing a 5% price decrease ($40 to $38) will produce a 20% increase in sales volume (20,000 to 24,000). Variable costs will remain at $24 per pair of shoes. Management is impressed with Mary’s ideas but concerned about the effects these changes will have on the break-even point and the margin of safety.Complete the following: Compute the current break-even point in units, and compare it to the break-even point in units if Mary’s ideas are used.
Compute the margin of safety ratio for current operations and after Mary’s changes are introduced (Round to nearest full percent).
Prepare a CVP (Cost-Volume-Profit) income statement for current operations and after Mary’s changes are introduced.
Prepare a maximum 700-word informal memo to management addressing Mary’s suggested changes. Explain whether Mary’s changes should be adopted. Why or why not? Analyze the above information (three bullet points above) and use this information to support your suggestion.
