Social Media Influence with Hiring
Companies should use social media profiles for hiring purposes because it is another tool they can use to . Companies can see Pprofessional and educated[do you mean educational?] profiles, identify Ppeople with Ppoor communication skills, and Aavoid liability from risky? employees.

I like this, Mario. I just tweaked it a bit to make it one sentence and include strong verbs for all sections.

Social Media and Professional Profiles Comment by Louise Gerdes: Nice format, Mario. We will work on this a little more in Week 3.
Topic Sentence: One of the reasons that companies should use social media as a hiring tool is that they can see active Porofessional and educated educational profiles. Nice topic sentence, Mario.

· For example, Blogging is a tool people, and companies use to attract each other.

· For job seekers, blogs can be used as their resume. The blog can have a video of a person describing their abilities. Companies use blogs as a recruiting tool to attract active and passive seekers.

· Recruiting.com “List of 40 Recruiting blogs”, SimplyHired.com “7 Things a Job Seeker Can Do with a Blog”. I cannot find this on your reference page. Show me these in Week 3 and we can work on how to cite them here and on the reference page.

· Also, Companies use Podcasting to recruit job seekers.

· Podcasting used to be just for entertainment or information files. Social media has changed how podcasting works. Companies use podcasting by having employees express the inside and outside of organizations and gaining the attraction of job seekers.

· The Technical Careers Group at Microsoft has produced podcasting. IBM created podcasting.

I like this, Mario, but the sources do not clearly prove that they help companies identify professional and educational skills of prospective employees. I am sure they do, but you need to clearly prove your claim or change your topic sentence and thesis statement. Thus, provide clear examples of how social media helps businesses hire employees that have the skills they need. OR, shift the content to what your sources are saying are the benefits. We still have time to develop this.

Communication Skills on Social Media
Topic Sentence: Another Rreason why companies should use social media as a hiring tool is that you can see communication skills from people on their profiles. Comment by Louise Gerdes: [Eliminate second person (you/your) in academic documents, and avoid addressing the reader directly.]

· Communication skills include grammar, spelling, Grammar, and spelling can have a worse reaction than alcohol consumptions.

· Companies look at individuals with clean and proper profiles.

· CareerBuilder (2012) Reppler (2011) Comment by Louise Gerdes: I cannot find either of these sources on your list of References.

· Also, Bbad mouthing a current or past employer is a red flag of poor communication skills. I agree, but why. It is really more about ethics than communication: as you suggest below, well mannered. Again, perhaps consider this to be about professionalism rather than communication and/or write about employees that fit. You have all the stuff it just does not match. Remember, it is easier to adjust topic sentences and the thesis statement.

· Hiring managers want to hire professionally well manner[ed] employees that will fit with their company.

· Microsoft (2010)

· Perception is everything for companies. People like to portray an image that they do not keep. During interviews, job seekers have a top-notch image, but on their social media profiles, it tells a different story. This seems to be more about image than communication. Again, the ideas are great. I would adjust your main ideas to better fit your sources.

· Studies show that companies go through personal information found on social media. What do they find and how do they use it?

· Lupsa (2006) & Joos (2008)

Social Media and Liability
Topic Sentence: Final reason companies are using social media as a tool for hiring is that they can avoid liability of employee’s behaviors.

· Background checks can be job history, criminal history, and social media content history.

· A proper background check can avoid a company employee’s endangerment. This is interesting but it is not social media.

· Keen v. Miller Environmental Group

You have some great ideas here, Mario, and some great research below. I think the key when writing your draft is to write paragraphs about the different ideas that the sources explore. For example, I see that they help identify employees that might make a good fit—the image they protray. They also identify employees that are professional. I like the communication idea but it is different from professionalism and ethics. This does not mean that it will not work but that you just may want to move these ideas around and adjust your main points. We will make this work. Bring your sources and let me have a look.
