For Part 1, you are expected to identify your project’s stakeholders, and then consider how they might perceive your project could positively or negatively impact them and also consider how you perceive they could positively or negatively impact your project. For Part 2, you are expected to use the information you gather from Part A to craft a memo to engage the organization for input on your project. This will be the foundation for further discussions with your classmates. Be substantive and clear:

Part 1:

  • Identify your potential stakeholders and their characteristics in your organization using the tools and techniques described in PMBOK Chapter 13, Section 13.1.2.
  • Put yourself in your stakeholders various roles.  From their perspective, explain how your project might have a positive or negative impact on them. Explain how the stakeholders you have identified might have a positive or negative impact on your project.
  • Use this information to construct your Stakeholder Register as described in PMBOK Chapter 13: Section 13.1.  Identify Stakeholders. Your Stakeholder Register will be used for Part 2, and will be further developed in your Phase 3 IP assignment.  Remember, what is described in the PMBOK has been generalized for most projects most of the time, and it is up to you to customize these generalities in a manner that makes sense to accomplishing your project. Follow the general guidelines to accomplish the work of your project. Additional explanation and generalized examples are provided in the Phase Resources below – use what you need for your project.
  • Attach your Stakeholder Register to your DB post

Part 2

  • Use the understanding you gained from the information you gathered while identifying and beginning to analyze your stakeholders, draft a memo to your stakeholders that announces your new project in a positive manner, and solicits their input, and invites their engagement as part of the requirements gathering process for this project.
