Orcinus Orca “Killer Whale”

I. An Apex predator that has no challenge in the ocean kingdom, the true king of the sea. Recently, scientists found a pod of Orca’s attacking Great white Sharks and killing them for their livers.

D. Mass: Male: 3,600 – 5,400 kg (Adult) Dorsal is straight up, Female: 1,400 – 2,700 kg (Adult) Dorsal is curved

F. Lifespan: Female: 29 years (In captivity), Male: 17 years (In captivity)

III. Where they live
A. Cold waters(frequently)

B. Warm waters (rare)

C. Fresh Water (extremely rare, yet witnessed)

IV. Mating Habit

A. Generalist eaters (Sharks, Sting Rays, Fish, Large whales etc.), however very picky eaters. Depending on family eating habits, orcas will rarely change their diet. 

V. Female become Sexually active around the age between of 7 to 16 years in captivity. However, it is unknown in the wild since it is very difficult to study killer whales in the wild. 

VI. Endangered species with an estimated global population of at least 50,000

VII. Alaskan killer whales have not only learned how to steal fish from longlines but have overcome a variety of techniques designed to stop them, such as the use of unbaited lines as decoys.

VIII. Although for being the most adaptable apex animal it is endangered due to its late reproduction, contaminants and being killed in the thousands by humans every year.
