Interview one or two of your parents (or the person or people you grew up with)

Interview one or two of your parents (or the person or people you grew up with) about how household work was done in your home when you were in elementary school (age 5-10ish).  Pay careful attention to the division of responsibility, as well as the division of labor.  Consider also the degree to which your family used market substitutes for goods and services historically produced in the home, e.g. childcare, meals, home cleaning, lawn mowing.  Include your childhood perspective on the whole thing, as well as your analysis of it today.  You can also connect your family to national statistics on household labor available in the American Time Use Data online at http://www.bls.gov/tus. Good sources of data on labor issues include www.bls.gov, or think-tanks such as www.epinet.orgNote:  this assignment is an essay; write the assignment in essay format (intro, body, and conclusion).  The essay uses the interview as raw material, but you don’t need to and should not transcribe it word-for-word. You may want to include one or two memorable quotes. Your grade will reflect both the writing and the content.
