1. Explain why Microscopes are important in Microbiology including at least two examples. 
2. Summarize the major contributions of Anton van Leeuwenhoek to microscopy. 
3. When considering a light microscope, as in the Light Microscopy animation, from the light source indicate the path of the light by discussing the part of the microscope the light travels through and the major function of the parts.


Exercise 2- Aseptic Transfer Techniques
You should read your Lab Manual and review the Aseptic Transfer Techniques PowerPoint that is included in this Unit. You should respond to each of the following questions. Each answer should not exceed 100 words in length

4. Discuss three instances in which a Microbiologist must utilize a pure culture.
5. Describe four of the instruments Microbiologists most often use to transfer Microorganisms.
6. Explain a few of the general rules for sterile technique.

Exercise 3- Preparing Smears and Stains
You should read your Lab Manual and review the Staining animation that is included in this Unit. You should respond to each of the following questions. Each answer should not exceed 100 words in length. 

7. List the three main categories of stains used by Microbiologist that were presented in the animation. Explain the uses of these stains and list two examples of stains in each category.
8. Describe how to properly prepare a simple stain, including smear and heat fixation. 
9. Name three diseases caused by acid fast organisms and list clinical specimens that may contain pathogenic acid fast Bacteria.


Exercise 4- Binary Fission
You should review the Bacterial Growth, Bacterial Growth Curve, and Binary Fission animations that are included in this Unit. You should respond to each of the following questions. Each answer should not exceed 100 words in length.

10. Discuss what you learned from the animations and how the information relates to life experiences.
