Network Ownership(ONE PAGE, Two sources):
Give the basics on ownership both currently and historically. Who owns it, what other entertainment properties do they own, and do any of your networks shows appear on other channels owned by the corporation (for example, ABC Family in the past has aired old episodes of ABC sitcoms)? Can you detect any influence on content related to your networks ownership?
Consumption and Social Class(ONE PAGE, TWO sources):In terms of consumerism, what sort of lifestyle does your network promote? In what sort of environments do its characters live? Take a look at the sort of homes characters own or occupy, the kinds of clothes they wear, cars they drive, and the kind of lifestyle they aspire to (reality shows often show average people desperate for wealth or fame). Also, note messages connected to gender and race about successare the women put in the position of relying on men for their success? Do we see familiar stereotypes of poor minorities or groundbreaking representations (you may also want to argue that certain minority characters who are well-off may be unrealistic)? What social classes are represented on your program (and do these also have connections to race or ethnicity) and how are they represented? Does your network ever show values that contradict materialism?
