Take a moment to think about what motivates a person. Money? Success? Love? Making the world a better place? Everyone is somehow motivated by drives, or desires, to fulfill needs of one kind or another. In training and development, we leverage those motivations to help learning to occur. Everyone’s needs and motivations are slightly different, but quite often, the core of what motivates us is easy to define. However, in addition to individual differences, different cultures can impact motivation.

Organizations, both large and small, are becoming increasingly global enterprises. As organizational boundaries expand and they become more diverse, it is important to create cohesive, aligned, and supportive learning environments. Learning and development professionals should recognize that motivational models of Western culture may or may not be effective in other cultures. Values including intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors need to be studied and reflected upon in the framework of reinforcement and reward systems.

This assignment includes the study of culture and its influence on training and development. You will read about HRD practices and managerial effectiveness as it relates to the role of the organization’s culture. In addition, cultural continuity and change will be examined.

Consider the organizational culture of Google, which is quite unique. Do you see this style as beneficial or distracting? Do you see more organizations following this model? Explain your answer.

****Response should be at least 200 words in length****

MUST ANSWER ASSIGNMENTS 1 AND 2.  I uploaded other student answers so just do basic research and do not copy their answers. word doc have all the student answers. also mention the source if your copying words from some where DUE TONIGHT in 5 hours very easy

assignment 1

fter reading Chapters 2 and 3 in Bamber et al., compare the US and British labor relations systems along the following dimensions:

(a) Union density (the percentage of the workforce that is unionized)

(b) Nature of political engagement by the leading union confederation (TUC versus AFL-CIO), including business unionism in the US and the role of the British Labor Party

(c) Extent of decentralization and fragmentation

(d) History and importance of discrimination law (read between the lines)

assignment 2

After reading Chapters 2 and 3 in Bamber et al., answer the following questions:

Historically, US employers have been the most antiunion, but the British system was probably the worst among the industrialized nations from the standpoint of competitiveness.  Until a couple of decades after the Donovan Commission report Britain had multiple craft unions in each plant represented by a single shop steward; in part in response to the needs of US multinationals doing business in Britain, the article says that the trend has favored single-union plants.

(a) Why are US employers among the most anti-union employers in the world? What is business unionism, and why has it been attractive to US employees but not to employees in most other countries?

(b) In Britain there has been less regulatory stability than in the US as alternative Conserative and Labor governments have passed laws antagonistic to (e.g., the 1971 Industrial Relations Act) and friendly to (e.g., the 1999 national minimum wage under Tony Blair) unions, but the union density is much higher, more than double, than in the US.

          (i) What are steps the US confederation, the AFL-CIO has taken, including internecine conflict and departures of unions from the AFL-CIO, to expand union membership?

(ii) Why has union density plummeted in both countries?

(iii) In which country have nonunion personnel practices developed furthest?

(c) According to Katz and Colvin, the authors of the piece on US labor relations, a solution to labor’s global woes is cross-national cooperation among labor movements in different countries.  At the same time, Bamber et al., in their introduction to the book, claim that there are two or more fundamentally different varieties of capitalism, liberal and coordinated.

          (i) If there are two fundamentally different kinds of capitalism, how is cross-national cooperation possible?  Are the kinds really different?

          (i) What would Olson say about the likelihood of cross-national cooperation?  Where are the economic incentives?

4 informal reviews and 1 short epitaph (1 paragraph)

Papers requirement:

short (approx. 2+ pages) papers that involve “close reading” of a text. Emphasis is on some, detail, question, or point of emphasis that interests you. The idea is to focus on details (consider language, key images, metaphor, point of view, narrative style, character, or moments that move you, etc.)  in our readings that resonate for you. I am not interested in plot summary, or a rehash of what we discuss in class. I am looking for your focused interpretation on something in the text that you’ve responded to with curiosity or passion.

   Break it down:

1 WHY do u respond to a person or a phrase or a literary style?

2 How dose the text communicate effectively? Why do u think so?

3 It may be that you take on a section that confuses you or upsets you—-something you reject outright, or something that you simply question. Your response may be critical or positive.

4 Is it wonderful, is it disappointing, are you ambivalent?

5 Is it ambivalent or contradictory?

6 you must use quotes from the text to support your analysis.

Key points:

1 Time is due on the 23:59 on Monday evening (MAR 24th)

2 Do not write like a research paper with a lot of quotes from the other books or articles, please write in a very informal way.

3 I am an International exchange student from China. Be careful of the words and context u will use.

(For example: don’t write: I was born in a little town near New York)

4 No Plagiarism.

Now at least I need 4 papers of 4 novels

1  Beowulf    Heany, Seamus(trans.)     ISBN

0393330109

2  Lamb. The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal

ISBN-10   0380813815

3 The Tempest by Willian Sharkespeare

 ISBN    9780743482837

4 The once and future king     ISBN 9780441003839

And an epitaph of Caliban in The Tempest

This short epitaph is only 1 paragraph. Not long. This epitaph describes the whole life of Caliban and so on….

Notice:

1  I have a lot of papers to write. If you really do a good job.

We will have a long term deal.

2 Read the requirements carefully. I have bought one before but he did a very bad job. Too much copy quotes from the other books.

3 I have the pdf of book: Beowulf, The Tempest. And The Once and the future King. If you need I can email them to you.

Linear Equation Project

Curve-fitting Project – Linear Model (due 11/24/2013)

Instructions

For this assignment, collect data exhibiting a relatively linear trend, find the line of best fit, plot the data and the line, interpret the slope, and use the linear equation to make a prediction. Also, find r2 (coefficient of determination) and r (correlation coefficient). Discuss your findings. Your topic may be that is related to sports, your work, a hobby, or something you find interesting. If you choose, you may use the suggestions described below.

A Linear Model Example and Technology Tips are described in separate topics.

Tasks for Linear Regression Model (LR)

(LR-1) Describe your topic, provide your data, and cite your source. Collect at least 8 data points. Label appropriately.  (Post this information as a main topic here in the Project conference as well as in your completed project. Include a brief informative description in the title of your posting. Each student must use different data.)

The idea with the conference posting is two-fold: (1) To share your interesting project idea with your classmates, and (2) To give me a chance to give you a brief thumbs-up or thumbs-down about your proposed topic and data. Sometimes students get off on the wrong foot or misunderstand the intent of the project, and your posting provides an opportunity for some feedback. Remark: Students may choose similar topics, but must havedifferent data sets. For example, several students may be interested in a particular Olympic sport, and that is fine, but they must collect different data, perhaps from different events or different gender.

(LR-2) Plot the points (x, y) to obtain a scatterplot. Use an appropriate scale on the horizontal and vertical axes and be sure to label carefully. Visually judge whether the data points exhibit a relatively linear trend. (If so, proceed. If not, try a different topic or data set.)

(LR-3) Find the line of best fit (regression line) and graph it on the scatterplot. State the equation of the line.

(LR-4) State the slope of the line of best fit. Carefully interpret the meaning of the slope in a sentence or two.

(LR-5) Find and state the value of r2, the coefficient of determination, and r, the correlation coefficient. Discuss your findings in a few sentences. Is r positive or negative? Why? Is a line a good curve to fit to this data? Why or why not? Is the linear relationship very strong, moderately strong, weak, or nonexistent?

(LR-6) Choose a value of interest and use the line of best fit to make an estimate or prediction. Show calculation work.

(LR-7) Write a brief narrative of a paragraph or two. Summarize your findings and be sure to mention any aspect of the linear model project (topic, data, scatterplot, line, r, or estimate, etc.) that you found particularly important or interesting.

You may submit all of your project in one document or a combination of documents, which may consist of word processing documents or spreadsheets or scanned handwritten work, provided it is clearly labeled where each task can be found. Be sure to include your name. Projects are graded on the basis of completeness, correctness, ease in locating all of the checklist items, and strength of the narrative portions.

  • Choose an Olympic sport — an event that interests you. Go to http://www.databaseolympics.com/ and collect data for winners in the event for at least 8 Olympic games (dating back to at least 1980). (Example: Winning times in Men’s 400 m dash). Make a quick plot for yourself to “eyeball” whether the data points exhibit a relatively linear trend. (If so, proceed. If not, try a different event.) After you find the line of best fit, use your line to make a prediction for the next Olympics (2014 for a winter event, 2016 for a summer event ).

I have already chosen the sport and plotted the times and years. I have attached and complated that part of the project.
