The word argument usually conjures up images of agitated people disagreeing with each other, often emotionally. In academic writing, the argument or persuasive essay is not about confrontation. Instead, this essay relies on detailed evidence, cool logic, and precise language to persuade readers to accept a viewpoint or to take an action. This ability to make a reasonable, persuasive case for your point of view can be one of the most important skills for your advancement in the workplace.

 

For this Individual Project, you should either choose one of the topics below or devise one of your own (with your instructor’s approval) and write a short argument or persuasive essay. As you discovered in your reading, you will assert a position on the topic and then defend that position so well that others might agree with you. Remember, the argument or persuasive essay is not a personal rant. Your goal is to appear unbiased.

 

One of the ways of achieving a level of objectivity is to consider counterarguments against your position. Therefore, at least one of your paragraphs should include some discussion of a counterargument. For example, if you write in favor of abolishing the death penalty, you might devote some discussion to the loved ones of a murder victim, the need for these survivors to gain closure, or even their demands that the perpetrator meet a similar fate as the loved one taken from them.

To be able to meet the quantity commitments of this agreement, Selig had to obtain additional manufacturing capacity. A real estate firm located an available factory in close proximity to Selig’s Roundball manufacturing facility, and Selig agreed to purchase the factory and used machinery from Starks Athletic Equipment Company on October 1, 2005. Renovations were necessary to convert the factory for Selig’s manufacturing use. The terms of the agreement required Selig to pay $50,000 when renovations started on January 1, 2006, with the balance to be paid as renovations were completed. The overall purchase price for the factory and machinery was $ 400,000. The building renovations were contracted to Malone Construction at $100,000. Use the Internet or the Strayer Library to research articles on EVM. 

Project managers often use Earned Value Management (EVM) if they want to compare the status of their projects to their project plans. Using the same project from Assignment 3, develop a project scenario to explain the amount of work that you have completed with the funds allotted.

 

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: 

  • An MS Project exercise 
  • An EVM paper

 

You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment for which it is written. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

 

Section 1: MS Project Exercise

Assume that your project is using more resources (e.g., time, money, and / or other non-labor resources, etc.) than anticipated through 50% of the project duration.

2. Produce a series of EVM reports from MS project that illustrates your project’s performance. Note: Your reports should focus on the cost and schedule performance of the project.
