Read the Real World Case 3, Cogent Communications, Intel, and Others: Mergers Go More Smoothly When Your Data Are Ready (pp. 213-214). 

In a three- to five-page paper (not including the title page and reference pages), respond to the following:

1. Place yourself in the role of a manager at a company undergoing a merger or acquisition. Explain your customer’s expectations during the merger with at least three examples and describe what role IT would play in meeting those expectations.
2. Focus on what Andi Mann in the case calls “tribal knowledge.” Explain what you think is meant by that, and why it is important to the process. Provide at least one strategy you would suggest for companies that are faced with the extensive presence of this issue in an acquired organization.
3. Most of the discussion on the case focused on hardware and software issues. However, these are essentially enablers for underlying business processes developed by each of the companies involved. Analyze the different alternatives that companies have for merging their business processes, and discuss the role IT would play in supporting those activities. Be sure to address data management and governance issues.

Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center, and it must include citations and references for the text and at least two scholarly sources.

Assignment 3: Juvenile Probation

In many ways, juvenile probation is similar to adult probation. Both types of probation involve sanctions imposed by the court, necessitating close supervision of the offender, coupled with the looming threat of a more severe punishment, typically incarceration, if the offender fails to comply with the conditions stipulated in his or her probation.

Given the inherent complexity of working with juveniles, juvenile probation includes components, rules, and processes not found in adult probation. For example, probation officers must take into account factors such as school and parental wishes while determining how a particular case should be handled. These factors are not taken into consideration in adult probation. Also, juvenile probation officers must contend with and account for the inclusion of status offenses, which can be more difficult to track and monitor.

Tasks:

Prepare a 3- to 5-page report on your local juvenile probation department. In your report:

• Describe the types of juvenile cases that your local juvenile probation department has taken care of in the past.
• Locate and comment on the following:
  • The department’s mission and vision statement
  • Whether the juvenile department is located with the adult probation department and community corrections
  • The number of services aimed toward juveniles
  • The statistics that demonstrate the department’s effectiveness
• State the overall assessment of your local juvenile probation department. Explain based on your research whether you think the department is run well. Does the department meet the needs of local youth? Support your answer with evidence.

Option #1: Cost of Operation Exercise

Toy Box, Inc., is contemplating expanding sales of their children’s toys. The have an opportunity to stock and sell the X toy that has been a big hit with children everywhere. They must order the X toys from the manufacturer in a minimum order of 100 at a cost of $12 each. They could resell the X toy in their store for $22 each.

Due to anticipated demand, Toy Box, Inc., will need to hire an additional part-time cashier at $600 a month, which will be classified as a fixed-cost attributable to the X toy. In addition, they have offered a $1 sales commission per toy to their floor sales representative. Finally, they will include a package of trading cards with every purchase of an X toy, which will cost them an additional $2 each.

Instructions:

In a well-written paper, answer the questions and perform the calculations described below:

1. To make the project worthwhile, Toy Box, Inc., would require a $5,000 profit per month. What level of sales, in units and in dollars, would be required to reach this target profit? Show all computations completely, in a table inserted into your document.
2. Assume that the venture is undertaken and an order is placed for 100 X toys. What would be Toy Box’s break-even point in units and in sales dollars? Show computations completely in an inserted table, and explain the reasoning behind your answer. You can ignore the fixed cost of $600 for this part.

Your paper must be written in Word and should meet the following requirements:

• 2-3 pages in length, with all calculations in tables inserted in the document.
• Written and formatted according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.
• Include at least 2-3 outside sources.

Choose one of the policy implementation documents from this week’s readings (a) DHS Risk Management Fundamentals OR (b) DoD Cybersecurity Culture and Compliance Initiative.

Using your selected policy implementation document (DHS or DoD), prepare a two page briefing paper (5 to 7 paragraphs) for the senior leadership and corporate board of the case study “company.” (Use the case study and provide specific information about “the company” as appropriate for your briefing).

In your briefing paper, you should address how this type of policy implementation document can be used to support implementation of specific risk management strategies.

• For the DHS document, you should focus on the use of training and doctrine (establishing a specific business process) as a risk management strategy. Discuss the pro’s and con’s of using a single risk management process across all corporate operations. Make sure to explain the risk management process you choose.

• For the DoD document, you should focus on the use of “culture shift” as a risk management strategy. Discuss the pro’s and con’s of using “culture shift” and “individual responsibility / accountability” as a risk management strategy.
