    1. Consider the daily returns of the exchange trade fund (ETF) SPDR S&P 500 of State Street… 1 answer below »

    [Problem Set]

To answer questions in this exercise, (a) use 5% significance level in tests, and (b) use 10 lags of serial correlations for return series. You must use R program and submit all R codes, also the output.

    1. Consider the daily returns of the exchange trade fund (ETF) SPDR S&P 500 of State Street Global Advisors from September 4, 2001, to September 30, 2011. The tick symbol is SPY and there are 2535 observations. The simple returns are available from CRSP and in the file d-spy-0111.txt. Transform the simple returns to log returns.

    (a) Is the expected log return zero? Are there any serial correlations in the log returns? Is there ARCH effect in the log returns?

    (b) Fit a Gaussian ARMA-GARCH model for the log return series. Perform model checking, obtain the QQ plot of the standardized residuals, and write down the fitted model. [Hint: Try GARCH(2,1).]

    (c) Build an ARMA-GARCH model with Student t innovations for the log return series. Perform model checking and write down the fitted model.

    2. Consider the monthly stock returns of the Coca-Cola Company (KO) from January 1961 to September 2011. The simple returns are available from CRSP and in the file m-ko-6111.txt. Transform the simple returns to log returns.

    (a) Is the expected monthly log return zero? Is there any serial correlation in the log returns? Is there any ARCH effect in the log returns?

    (b) Build a Gaussian GARCH model for the log returns. Perform model checking and write down the fitted model.

    (c) Build a GARCH model with Student t innovations for the log returns. Perform model checking, obtain the QQ plot of the standardized residuals, and write down the fitted model. Also, obtain 1- to 5-step ahead volatility predictions.

    3. Consider again the monthly log returns of KO stock. Multiple the log returns by 100. That is, use percentage log returns.

    (a) Fit a TGARCH model to the series. Perform model checking and write down the fitted model. Is the level effect different from zero?

    (b) Fit an NGARCH model to the series. Perform model checking and write down the tted model.

Clearly there is a relationship between obesity and lack of exercise and poor diet.  In addition, most philosophers throughout the history of the world have agreed that happiness will, at some point, require meaningful relationships with other human beings.  However, what is not clear about your examples is the difference between causally dependent and causally necessary.  Your definitions almost seem as though these two concepts are interchangeable.  On your view, is causal dependence the same as causally necessary?  Why/why not?

My first job in accounting was as a “cost” accountant. Today, “cost” accountants are referred to as management accountants and their roles have evolved into more than just cost reporting. In what ways are management accountants different than “cost” accountants? How have their responsibilities grown?

write a 3 page research paper in which you discuss specific people, financial, and operational risks for a manufacturing business and how managers guard against or mitigate those risks. In this paper, please address the following questions:

      • What are specific people risks for a manufacturing company?
      • What are specific financial risks for a manufacturing company?
      • What are specific operational risks for a manufacturing company?
      • What are ways these risks might be avoided or mitigated?
      • How do these risks compare to risks faced in other industries?

        1. Using the code presented in Section 8.6:

        (a) Generate a dataset (X, y).

        (b) Apply a PCA transformation on X, which we denote Ẋ.

        (c) Compute MDI, MDA, and SFI feature importance on (Ẋ,y), where the base estimator is RF.

        (d) Do the three methods agree on what features are important? Why?

        2. From exercise, generate a new dataset (Ẍ,y), where Ẍ is a feature union of X and Ẋ .

        (a) Compute MDI, MDA, and SFI feature importance on (Ẍ,y), where the base estimator is RF.

        (b) Do the three methods agree on the important features? Why?

        Objectives

        The aims of the practical are;

        • To become familiar with the risk assessment process and safety procedures

that need to be followed before you undertake an experiment

        • To re-design an experiment so that others can replicate your methods

        General Procedure

        1. Grind about 2 g of lawn fertiliser and transfer a small amount into a beaker.

        2. Add 50 mL of water.

        3. Filter the solution into a 600 mL beaker.

        4. Add 3 mL of 2 M HCl and make up to 200 mL total volume.

        5. Heat the solution.

        6. Slowly add the required amount of 0.5 M BaCl2 while the sample is still hot.

        7. Allow the precipitate to settle and the solution to cool.

        8. Weigh a sintered glass crucible before using it to filter the solution.

        9. Wash with warm water.

        10. Test the filtrate with AgNO3. If AgCl forms, discard the filtrate and continue to

wash the precipitate until the filtrate shows no signs of AgCl.

        11. Reweigh the sintered glass crucible and calculate the mass of precipitate

        formed.

        12. Calculate the amount of sulfate in the fertiliser and compare to the amounts

        quoted by the manufacturer.

Consider a 12.47 kV three-phase four-wire grounded-wye overhead radial distribution system, similar to the one shown in Figure 5.32. The uniformly distributed area of 12 × 10 =120 – block area is served by one main located in the middle of the service area. There are 10laterals (6 blocks each) on each side of the main. The lengths of the main and the laterals are3300 and 5760 ft, respectively. From Table A.1, arbitrarily select 4/0 copper conductor with12 strands for the main and AWG # 6 copper conductor for the lateral. The K constants for themain and lateral are 0.0032% and 0.00175% VD per kVA-min, respectively. If the maximumdiversified demand per lateral is 518.4 kVA, consider the total service area and determine thefollowing:a. The total load of the main feeder in kVA.b. The amount of current in the main feeder.c. The amount of current in the lateral.d. The percent voltage drop at the end of the lateral.e. The percent voltage drop at the end of the main.f. The total voltage drop for the last lateral. Is it acceptable if the 4% maximum voltagedropcriterion is used?
