    • Submit this document along with your Assessment work.

    Assessment 1 – PROJECT

    Performance objective

Students are required to demonstrate their understanding and ability to develop and use complex spreadsheets by preparing to develop spreadsheets, develop a linked spreadsheet solution, automate and standardise spreadsheet operation, use them and represent the numerical data in graphical form.

    Assessment description:
You are to create and use a total of 2 different linked spreadsheets that use advanced spreadsheet features -relevant to your organization or any organization of your choice engaged in construction field. Think about the company, and what you could use spread sheets for. Ideas might include:

One linked spreadsheet must calculate costing estimates for each stage of a construction job against actual expenditures and contracted revenue. Income for this task could be allocated as:
    • Deposit 5%
    • Base Stage 10%
    • Frame Stage 15%
    • Lock-up Stage 35%
    • Fixing Stage 25%
    • Completion 10%

The other linked spreadsheet may include a customer database, menus, itinerary, staff details, wages, timesheets, etc
Demonstrations must be for at least 3 functions from the list below
    • mathematical functions (eg. square root, integer, absolute value, round)
    • statistical functions (eg. standard deviation, count, maximum, minimum)
    • basic financial functions (if available)
    • date functions
    • logical functions (eg. lookup, if, choose, true, false, conditions)
    • simple nested functions.
Your assessor will observe you doing this task and will be assessing you for:
    • Using safe work practices
    a. Adjust workspace, furniture and equipment to suit your ergonomic requirements
    b. Follow workplace procedures in using computer equipment
    c. Demonstrate energy & resource conservation techniques , such as following
    • double-sided paper use
    • recycling used and shredded paper
    • re-using paper for rough drafts (observing confidentiality requirements)
    • using power-save options for equipment
    d. Identify and follow task & organisational requirements for spreadsheets like naming and storing spreadsheets
    • Developing a linked spreadsheet solution
    • Automating and standardising your spreadsheet operation (through creating, using and editing macros and templates)
    • Using your spreadsheet ensuring you
    • Enter, check and amend each spreadsheet correctly
    • Enter your data effectively
    • Use manuals or user documentation (including on-line) for assistance where required
    • Review, adjust and print your spreadsheet
    • Name and store your spreadsheet accordingly
    • Representing numerical data into graph form
    • Include appropriate chart type and chart features, which represents numerical data validly
    • Create graphs with Labels and titles from numerical data contained in a spreadsheet file
    • Save, view, adjust and print each chart

You are now required to arrange a meeting with your assessor and to clarify and confirm the requirements and to answer questions on the advanced functions of spreadsheet software applications used and impact of formatting and design on presentation and readability of data . Review observation checklist to know what is expected of you.
Your assessor will observe you during this observation, ensuring you:
    • Design documents to suit purpose and enhance readability.
    • Utilise style sheets and automatic functions to ensure consistency of layout and design
    • Utilise advanced software functions such as inserting / formatting tables, using headers and footers etc
    • Enter data given by instructor or import data if given in digital format
    • Preview, adjust and print documents
    • Name and save documents following organisation procedures and exit application
    • Ensure documents are spell-checked, accurate and prepared within timeframes
    • Assistance should be sought from manuals or online help wherever required

This is an open book written assessment. In the time allocated, you are to answer all of the following questions. Make sure you:
    • Write Clearly
    • Answer all questions
    • Use a pen. Assessments written in pencil will not be accepted.
    • Ask your assessor if you do not understand a question. Whist your assessor cannot tell you the answer, he/she may be able to re-word the question for you
    • Do not talk to your classmates. If you are caught talking, you will be asked to leave and your assessment will not be marked.
    • Do not cheat. Anyone caught cheating will automatically be marked Not Yet Competent for this unit. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

    1. What is a linked spreadsheet?

The Butterfly network is an interconnection network composed of log p levels (as the omega

network). In a Butterfly network, each switching node i at a level l is connected to the identically

numbered element at level l + 1 and to a switching node whose number differs from itself only at

the lth most significant bit. Therefore, switching node Si is connected to element Sj at level l

    if j = i or j = i ? 2

    logp – l

    .

    A. Consider a Butterfly network with eight processing nodes connected to eight memory banks:

    i. (10 points) How many stages are needed?

ii. (25 points) Sketch the network showing input, output, as well as switching nodes.

iii. (15 points) What is the diameter and bisection width of this network? Explain your

    answer

iv. (10 points) knowing that messages in butterfly network are self-routed. In other words,

each stage uses one destination bit for routing purposes where “0” means route up and

“1” means route down. Show the routing of a message from node 0 to node 4.

    B. (15 points) Device a formula for computing cost of a butterfly network with p nodes.

    C. (25 points) Show the equivalence of a Butterfly network and an Omega network.

Hint: Rearrange the switches of an omega network so that it looks like a Butterfly

The key to stability is feedback between the reservoir and the fluxes into and/or out of the reservoir Assume that the rate of outflow from a reservoir depends on the size of the reservoir according to the following relationship: outflow rate= k x (size of reservoir), where k is a constant A reservoir of water has a volume of 5000 liters, and the rate of outflow at steady state is 25 liters per minute What is k? (Give both the numerical value and its units) What is the residence time? What is the relationship between k and the residence time?

Let a, b be two integers and let p, q be two distinct primes.

    Suppose that the two congruences x = a (mod p) and x =

b (mod q) have a simultaneous solution x0. Prove that this solution is unique modulo pq. That is prove that if x1 is another

simultaneous solution, then x0 = x1 (mod pq).

Lisa is planning to open a new coffee shop and is looking for some modem tables and chairs to furnish it with. Her friend Tom is a carpenter so she asked him if he could make her six tables.

Tom quoted the price of 53000 for all six tables and said that he is currently talking to Bob, the timber supplier regarding sourcing the appropriate timber.

Bob emailed Tom saying: “Yes. I think I have the right timber. For what you need it should be around $1800.” Upon receiving the quote Lisa responded by email as follows: “Good, make sure that it is a hardwood and light in colour. Let’s agree that 53000 is a final price including timber and your labour” A few days later Tom emailed Lisa that the price has now changed to $3600 as the timber is more expensive than he thought He also wrote

“Yes, of course, I will make sure that it will be hardwood but I cannot guarantee the colour as it varies between different batches of timber. Also, the timber merchant would like 5500 deposit and I am short on cash. Does it all sound °k7”
