Reproductive Disorders

The reproductive system in males and females is an important part of everyday life. Disorders of the reproductive system can cause physical and emotional stress related to symptoms these disorders cause. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Uterine Fibroids are just two of many reproductive disorders that wreak havoc on women.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

PCOS is a “syndrome,” or group of symptoms that affects the ovaries and ovulation. PCOS causes hormonal imbalances and metabolism problems. PCOS three main features are; cysts in the ovaries, high levels of male hormones, and irregular or skipped periods. PCOS is a hormonal imbalance along with metabolism issues that can affect overall health and appearance. “Between 5% and 10% of women between 15 and 44” (OWH, 2019), have PCOS and usually are diagnoses between their “20s and 30s trying to conceive but PCOS can happen anytime after puberty” (OWH, 2019). Common symptoms can include but not limited are, Irregular periods, heavy menstruation, male pattern baldness, weight gain, acne, and can increase the risk of heart disease. Diagnosis is based on symptoms, blood work, pelvic exam, and ultrasound. Treatment can include weight loss, increased physical activity, medications (metformin and birth control medications), and surgery. Uterine Fibroids

“Uterine fibroids are the most common noncancerous tumors in women of childbearing age” (CDC, 2019). “They are made of smooth muscle and other cells that can develop within the uterine wall itself or attach to it and can grow as single tumor or a cluster” (Stoppler, M, Davis, C, n.d.) “Fibroids can occur in up to 50% of all women and are one leading cause of hysterectomy” (Stoppler, M, Davis, C, n.d.). There is no significant reason as to why fibroids develop. Risk factors can include, family history, obesity, nulliparity, early on-set of menstruation, and “women of African descent are two to three times more likely to develop fibroids than women of other races” (Stoppler, M, Davis, C, n.d.). Symptoms can include, increase in menstrual bleeding, pressure in the rectum and bladder, which can cause constipation and frequency in urination, pelvic mass, and increase waist circumference. Diagnosis is based on pelvic ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, hysteroscopy, and laparoscopy. Treatment of fibroids depends on the severity of symptoms, trying to have children, general overall health, and size and location of the fibroids. If medically necessary to treat fibroids, sometimes medications can help, D&C can be an option, and surgery such as a myomectomy, and hysterectomy.

                                    Age as a Factor

Unfortunately, age can play a role in women diagnoses with PCOS or Uterine fibroids, mainly because of the wanting to have children and the increased risk for cardiovascular disease. PCOS and fibroids usually develop after puberty and are usually diagnosed in childbearing years around 20-30 years of age. It can affect women getting pregnant and make for a difficult road ahead. “Polycystic ovary syndrome puts older women at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes following menopause” (Grassi, A, 2014). When a woman has gone through menopause, this causes a decrease in hormones which can decrease the size of fibroids and the development of fibroids. Fibroids need the hormones to develop so without the right number of hormones, fibroids may not develop.

Intersection between human behavior and technology (DRAFT)

This argumentative essay regards an area where human behavior and technology intersect. More specifically, the argument is about the area of social communication and how technology has impacted it. That said this essay progresses as follows.

Before proceeding any further, it is important to put into perspective the intersection between human behavior and technology. Apparently, technology and the advancements that have been made so far have changed and are still changing the way people interact with their world. Equally, those advancements in technology are changing the way scientists study the human brain and human behavior. This is because psychological scientists are making use of technology to conduct their researches in a laboratory setting while advancement in technology are allowing those same scientists to take lab-based researches out to the real world where they are testing their theories. This goes to show that the use of technology is shaping both the thoughts and feelings of human being, the shaping of which in turn is determining the reaction and therefore the behavior of people who are interacting with technology. One of the areas where human behavior and technology is intersecting is in the area of social communication.

One of the ways technology has impacted human behavior is that it has improved communication. Given the fact that technology has improved transportation, it is obvious that people are traveling far and wide and sometime, an individual could find themselves in unfamiliar cultural setting. In such a scenario, if the individual needs, say, directions from a local, and it happens there is communication barriers between the traveler and the local, technology can save the day by helping break the communication barriers. This is because many applications have been developed and are in use to assist in translation of one language to another. A person, using a smart phone can launch the application, speak to the mouthpiece of their phone and let the mobile app to translate the message being communicated to intended listener. The listener will then pass the intended message in their language, which is translated by application for the benefit of the target audience. However, in the absence of such technology, the traveler would be ignore because the local would not hear gibberish because of communication barrier.

Another way technology has affected social communication is that technology has caused many people to use less critical thinking. This is because the increased use of technology has “led to people reading less and less every day” (Ehrenberg, Alexandra, et al., 739). This is contributed by the fact that digital most of the digital devices and social media technology have limited communication to about 140 characters. A good example of social media technology that has caused such limitation is the increased use of twister as a social media platform. With this limitation, the “increased use of this technology is discouraging critical thinking” (Tamim, Rana M., et al., 30). In other words, this technology is cause laziness among people. When people are lazy in thinking, they are more likely to cause impaired decisions because they will not have engaged critical thought when making such decisions out of habit. Perhaps the best way to remedy this laziness by setting aside some time every day during which technological devices are avoided as a way of encouraging critical thinking and more reading.

Another way technology is impacting behavior is that it impairs both imagination and attention. Take an example of workers using social media platforms during work hours. Since social media has many distractions, they will always get distracted from their work and as they continue doing so, they will not be able to meet work goals and the overall productivity of the organization will suffer. If the organization does not have a policy on the use effective of social media technology in place, it will shape the thoughts, feelings and the actions of the workers who would have created a habit of laziness. A habit of uncontrolled use of social media in the workplace will in turn affect the long term goals

QUESTION 1

Research Assignment –

Law enforcement professionals and investigators use digital forensic methods to solve crimes every day. Locate one current news article that explains how investigators may have used these techniques to solve a crime. Explain the crime that was solved and the methods used to determine how the crime was committed. Some examples of crimes solved may include locating missing children, finding criminals who have fled the scene of a crime, or unsolved crimes from the past that have been solved due to the use of new techniques (such as DNA testing).

Your written assignment should be 3-4 paragraphs in your own words, and should include a reference citation for your source of information.

QUESTION 2

Research Assignment –

Go online and search for information about companies that have been harmed or bankrupted by a disaster. Choose one such company and create a brief case study about it. Successful narratives will focus on the manner in which the organization was impacted, including financial losses, losses of sales, or the need for layoffs. Your assignment should be 3-4 paragraphs in length.

QUESTION 3

The project must be a Word document that is 4-5 pages (double-spaced)

on a cybersecurity topic of your choice. I will run it through SafeAssign and Turnitin so make sure it is your own work. If I get any assignments that have a 25% similarity rate or higher, it will get a zero. Write your own work!!
