Throughout this course we have been looking at social inequality when it comes to gender, race, ethnicity, and social class. According to Noam Chomsky, the inequality between the super wealthy and the poor is so extreme today that it is corrosive to our democracy. Our book tells that the “acceptance of inequality is not a recent occurrence; indeed, it is as old as human societies.”
So, how it is legitimate? Why do the majority of people (who have no wealth, a lack of power, and political influence) accept this inequality? Why is not questioned or challenged enough?
1) From the readings, explain how the wealthy and powerful create legitimacy through ideology.
2) Be sure to define ideology in your response and explain what is the “American Ideology” using one of the following value patterns individualism, equality of opportunity, meritocracy, the work ethic, or liberal capitalism. Support your claims with examples from the readings.

-Keep in mind that to be accurate in your assessment, you will need to not just look at raw data and percentages but also consider the data in relation to each racial or ethnic group’s percentage within the overall U.S. population.

-Discuss the extent to which drug policies or law-enforcement strategies have contributed to racial and ethnic disparities in drug use arrest rates.

-Consider any historical or contemporary influences that may have contributed the disparities you have identified.

-Share your assessment of the impact these disparities, along with institutional discrimination within the justice system more broadly, have had on minorities and minority communities.

-Present at least two potential solutions or strategies to combat the problems identified in your analysis.

-These can be community-based, legislative (at the state or federal level), or law-enforcement strategies.

Students are expected to initially address the discussion question by Wednesday

Students are expected to initially address the discussion question by Wednesday of each week. Participation in the discussion forums is expected with a minimum total of three (3) substantive postings (this includes your initial posting and posting to two peers) on three (3) different days per week. Substantive means that you add something new to the discussion, you aren’t just agreeing. This is also a time to ask questions or offer information surrounding the topic addressed by your peers. Personal experience is appropriate for a substantive discussion and should be correlated to the literature. All discussion boards will be evaluated utilizing rubric criterion inclusive of content, analysis, collaboration, writing and APA. If you fail to post an initial discussion you will not receive these points, you may however post to your peers for partial credit following the guidelines above. Due to the nature of this type of assignment and the need for timely responses for initial posts and posting to peers, the Make-Up Coursework Policy (effective July 2017) does not apply to Discussion Board Participation.Discussion Prompt [Due Wednesday]A 50-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) presents to the office with what she describes as a “flare up”. This part of the assessment allows you to demonstrate and reinforce your knowledge of business accounting terminology by transferring what is in your head onto paper.
For this assessment, use the Assessment 4, Part 2 Template to record your answers to the following short-answer questions designed to test your recall of accounting fundamentals.
Define the internal and external users of accounting data. What data would each group most likely want to review? Provide examples of each user type.
Describe the role ethics plays in the operation of an accounting system. Include a couple of examples.
Select three among the several accounting conventions prescribed by law, regulators, and accounting organizations. For each selection, describe its purpose and provide an example of how it would be applied to an accounting system.
Describe each of the three main financial statements—the end products of the work that takes place in an accounting system over a period of time—studied in the course. What does each statement present? Why is it important to prepare these? Who uses the information in the statements? Describe the interrelationship among the three statements.
Discuss the rules of debit and credit as apply to each of the account types that would appear on a company’s balance sheet and income statement. Identify the normal balance for each account type and provide an example event for each. Analyzing business events requires the accountant to make several judgments about the facts contained in the event.
