1. Fabian Barela Impact of the Protestant ReformationI see the Protestant Reformation as another way of God using individuals such as Luther, Calvin, and many others to show others that Christ is all we need, not another institution or power hungry religious system. This Reformation truly impacted what we see today in America, with freedom, government, and rights with Biblical application. I feel that today in America we are allowing unchecked immoral freedom to happen more, and less moral freedom. Take for example when Martin Luther separated from the Catholic Church, because of unbiblical teaching, and using titles, positions, and ceremony as a base of being Gods chosen ones. Martin Luther saw something wrong with the Catholic teaching from scripture and did something about it. It was the same with slavery in America, not only did you have several people against it and willing to die for what was right, it changed the course of history in America, all because of scripture being accessible. The laws in America were founded on biblical principles (Ten Commandments), Government in America is based on biblical principle (Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, etc). For scripture to be accessible to everyone no matter what is one of the greatest things. Lets put it this way, if a man that was born in a manger(poor), with no biological father, hated by Kings and his own people, taught for 3 years, beaten beyond recognition, and crucified with thieves, but yet His word and name is still preached to this day, 2000 years later. America is a great Nation, and I am blessed to be a part of it, for the simple fact that I can preach and read His word openly and freely.2. Sonya Holland
Todays society has been impacted, by the ethics of our past defined by the Reformation. Martin Luther, had a great influence on his followers, through their determination and perseverance, without a doubt shaped our world for future generations, and made our world, a more acceptable place in which we all can live together comfortably, were people can have political freedom, individual rights and democracy in government. For instance, the Reformation influence the development of the Bill of Rights, where the Frist Amendment, explains that people have the right to express information, ideas, and opinions free of government restrictions based on content and subject only to reasonable limitations. (as the power of the government to avoid a clear and present danger) We now have the rights to freedom of assembly, press, religion, and free speech. The one advantage that the 20th century has, is the freedom of speech, we use this right to our fullness, using all means of modern-day technology such as Facebook, radio, newspapers, television to get our messages across all over the world if needed, for individuals who are willing to listen and join in their worthy cause, whether positive or not.
Here is a perfect example of separation of church and the state. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr, a famous civil rights leader while in Birmingham jail compose a letter to the Protestant ministers, Catholic priests, and a rabbi. This was a peaceful march, the state was required to ban discrimination on the basis of race, sex, nationality, or religion in public places, employment, and unions. The church failed, to use their influences power and authority to assist him in his mission. In addition, the reformers believed that the two should be separate, and that the Churchs job was not to dictate matters to the State, but to be its conscience and hold the State accountable for its actions.
