The Lottery

Your assignment is to write an essay about a tradition or practice that you believe has no place in the modern world. Specifically, consider things that we do that you feel are outdated, practices that no longer really make sense. Much like in “The Lottery,” where the villagers no longer even really know why they are holding an annual lottery, consider traditions or practices in your own life or in our society and argue against them.

The subject you choose is up to you, but the goal will be to argue that this practice or tradition is outdated and should no longer be practiced. You do not have to use external sources; the essay can come entirely from experience or personal knowledge. It can be as many paragraphs as you like, but it must be at least 500 words.
