Role:
As the Insurance Company’s Computer Manager you report to the Operations Director.
Since the directors have just joined the company they have little knowledge of the way in
which the Company operates a great deal will fall on your shoulders. The tasks that you are
likely to undertake are:-
Keeping the existing IT System operating as efficient as possible·
Ensure that the new System will meet the needs of the company·
Managing the existing IT staff·
Ensuring the directors are kept informed about the project·

The present system is about 5/6 years old and so reliability is becoming a bit of an issue

the system work well but other parts are showing their age. Support of new technologies is
best described as non-existent.
Other parts of the system fall short of the company’s requirements particularly in the area of
management information and statistics.
As the senior member of the IT group you are responsible for a staff of about 150 people. They
cover all skills from Database Administrators, Systems Programmers, Network technicians, System
Analysts etc. The majority of the staff are mature and have been around more than 5 years
particularly the less skilled members. With an eye to the future you have recently employed some
young IT graduates but these have little experience.
