Estimate of Loss

You are the practice manager for a four-physician office. You arrive on Monday morning to

find the entire office suite flooded from overhead sprinklers that malfunctioned over the

weekend. Water stands ankle-deep everywhere. The computers are fried and the contents

of all the filing cabinets are soaked. Your own office, where most of the records were stored,

has the worst damage.

The practice carries valuable papers insurance coverage for an amount up to $250,000.

It is your responsibility to prepare an estimate of the financial loss so that a claim can be

filed with the insurance company. How would you go about it? What would your summary

of the losses look like?

Problem 1)

Steven collected data from 20 college students on their emotional responses to classical music.  Students listened to two 30-second segments from “The Collection from the Best of Classical Music.”  After listening to a segment, the students rated it on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 indicating that it “made them very sad” to 10 indicating that it “made them very happy.” Steve computes the total scores from each student and created a variable called “hapsad.”  Steve then conducts a one-sample t-test on the data, knowing that there is an established mean for the publication of others that have taken this test of 6.  The following is the scores:

5.0                   5.0

10.0                 3.0

10.0                 7.0

3.0                   15.0

4.0                   3.0

  1. Conduct a one-sample t-test.  What is the t-test score?  What is the mean?  Was the test significant?  If it was significant at what P-value level was it significant?

  2. What is your null and alternative hypothesis? Given the results did you reject or fail to reject the null and why?

(Use instructions on page 437 of your textbook, under Hypothesis Tests with the t Distribution to conduct SPSS or Excel analysis).

    Problem 2)

Billie wishes to test the hypothesis that overweight individuals tend to eat faster than normal-weight individuals.  To test this hypothesis, she has two assistants sit in a McDonald’s restaurant and identify individuals who order the Big Mac special for lunch.  The Big Mackers as they become known are then classified by the assistants as overweight, normal weight, or neither overweight nor normal weight.  The assistants identify 10 overweight and 10 normal weight Big Mackers.  The assistants record the amount of time it takes them to eight the Big Mac special.

  1. Conduct a crosstabs analysis to examine the proportion of female high school students who take advanced math courses is different for different levels of the parent variable.

  2. What percent female students took advanced math class

  3. What percent of female students did not take advanced math class when females were raised by just their father?

  4. What are the Chi-square results?  What are the expected and the observed results that were found?  Are they results of the Chi-Square significant?  What do the results mean?

  5. What were your null and alternative hypotheses?  Did the results lead you to reject or fail to reject the null and why?

    Problem 4)

This problem will introduce the learner into a technique called Analysis of Variance.  For this course we will only conduct a simple One-Way ANOVA and touch briefly on the important elements of this technique.  The One-Way ANOVA is an extension of the independent –t test that can only look at two independent sample means.  We can use the One-Way ANOVA to look at three or more independent sample means.  Use the following data to conduct a One-Way ANOVA:

    Scores              Group

    1                      1

    2                      1

    3                      1

    2                      2

    3                      2

    4                      2

    4                      3

    5                      3

    6                      3

Notice the group (grouping) variable, which is the independent variable or factor is made up of three different groups.  The scores are the dependent variable.

Use the instructions for conduction an ANOVA on page 438 of the text for SPSS or Excel.

  1. What is the F-score; Are the results significant, and if so, at what level (P-value)?

  2. If the results are significant to the following:  Click analyze, then click Compare Means, and then select one-way ANOVA like you did previously.  Now click Post Hoc.  In this area check Tukey.  If there is a significant result, we really do not know where it is.  Is it between group 1 and 2, 1 and 3, or 2 and 3?  Post hoc tests let us isolate where the level of significance was.  So if the results come back significant, conduct the post hoc test as I mentioned above and explain where the results were significant.

  3. What do the results obtained from the test mean?

Developing and Managing Multi-Cultural Teams

Assignment 1: LASA 2 – Developing and Managing Multi-Cultural Teams

As the diversity manager of a global company, you have developed a deep appreciation for the importance of understanding multi-cultural teams in the workplace. However, you know that some of the managers struggle with developing and managing multicultural teams in your company. There seems to be a need for company-wide information and training on the topic of “Developing and Managing Multi-Cultural Teams.”

You decide to prepare a training handout for the next managers’ meeting, that emphasizes the following points:

  • Dimensions of a multi-cultural team
  • Discrimination laws and their impact on managing a multi-cultural team

week 5 film discussion

discussion 1
Focus on Society

Just as some books are preserved and regarded as having had obvious effects on society (such as Lolita, Lord of the Flies, and Orwell’s Animal Farm and 1984), there have been a number of films that we look back upon which have clearly had cultural resonance, or became part of a social dialogue we’re perhaps still engaged with today (see Figure 9.1 of the text).  Our text tells us that “the impact of these movies is mostly unintentional” and that there is debate about whether the movies caused a societal shift, or if a change in the culture caused the movie to be created (see page 262).

The text also says that the exact nature of this exchange “is up to you to decide.” For this Discussion, please provide detailed examples of at least two films you have seen that you feel have either influenced society, or were directly influenced from an event that we collectively experienced.

Keep in mind that some of the films listed are documentaries, and have different structures and intentions than a typical narrative film.

Your initial post should be at least 150 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.

discussion 2
Criticism and Commentary

Reviews for movies are readily available through newspapers, magazines, blogs, and other print sources. Metacritic.com provides full reviews for a multitude of movies.

Find a review for a film, preferably one that you have seen.  According to the distinctions made in Chapter Ten, how is the reviewer approaching the film. To what degree does the review acknowledge the public perception of the film? What evidence does each review provide to illustrate main points and claims? Do any words or phrases capture the essence of the reviewer’s attitude toward the film?

Additionally, please share with the class exactly which sources you rely on, as a member of the general audience, to evaluate whether or not you will see a movie.

Your initial post should be at least 150 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.

Annotated Bibliography

the first attachment is the instructions for the assignment and the second attachment is a template of how the assignment should be

this is a continuation of Unit 1 and Unit 2 assignment

Cover page and APA formatting:

You will include an APA-style cover page for your Annotated Bibliography. Your cover page should include the following: the title (in this specific case, the title should be ―Annotated Bibliography), your name, the title of the course, your professor‘s name, and the date of submission (with the month, date, and year). Because this is an Annotated Bibliography, your last name will appear in the running head, along with a sequential page number in the upper right-hand corner, instead of a portion of your paper title.

The second page of your Annotated Bibliography should contain a title block in the upper left-hand corner that includes the following: your name, your professor‘s name, the title of the course, and the date of submission (see p. 436 of Strategies for Writing a Successful Research Paper). No title should be used. Instead, the words ―Annotated Bibliography—should appear centered where the title usually would be.

The following conventions should be followed as well. See the Annotated Bibliography Template for guidance:

The entries should be ordered in alphabetical order according to the first substantive word in the reference list citation.

The entire Annotated Bibliography should be double-spaced, with no additional spaces between entries.

No reference list should be included with the Annotated Bibliography, as the entries themselves will contain the reference list citation information.

The first line of each reference list citation should be flush left with the left-hand margin, and the second and proceeding lines should be indented ½ from the left-hand margin.

The summary of each entry should be flush with the second line of each reference list citation.

2. Entries:

Each of the five entries should begin with a reference list citation in APA format and be followed by a 100-150 word summary of the source‘s information. An Annotated Bibliography summary should include the most important information from the text. Sometimes, this means that you will broadly summarize larger portions of text (as in main ideas of a whole essay); other times, this means that you will focus on summarizing one paragraph out of an entire source. Whenever you quote information, use APA in-text citations.
