For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by Saturday, November 2, 2013.

To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use outside sources. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Overweight and Obesity

Analyze the article and answer the following:

  • In a paragraph, summarize the article overall.
  • What two things did you learn from this article?
  • After reading this article, what would you tell someone who eats a poor diet and has some of the risk factors for overweight and obesity? Do you think cultural differences can contribute to what foods are habitually eaten?
  • Americans are eating “junk” food such as fast food, cookies, and chips in place of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats. How, in your opinion, are fast food or junk food items linked to diseases? Can these foods compromise your nutritional status? Is there a way to measure if junk foods may be negatively affecting your health?

Assingment 2:

Project B: Review of the Literature

Project B addresses the related research on your topic. One reason we conduct a review of the literature is to make sure that our research proposal is original and not just a replication of work already conducted. The literature review is a discussion of studies, research reports, statistics, etc. that are related to your research topic. You should include a review of the most pertinent and recent research articles from professional journals. Begin your literature review as soon as possible as this process is time consuming and make take you longer than you originally planned.

Project “B” Instructions

Provide a review of at least EIGHT research articles on the topic you have selected. You will want to select articles that are scholarly and/or empirical. A good literature review should tie previous research together in some logical way and should acknowledge the importance of your intended research. The literature review should provide a synthesis of the articles you select rather than a series of article summaries. The final product for Project B should be approximately five to seven pages.

Format

  • Use Times New Roman script with a font size of 12 for the entire document.
  • The paper should be double-spaced.
  • Margins should be at least one inch all around.

Content

  • EIGHT scholarly sources are utilized. Information is synthesized throughout the paper.
  • The literature review has a strong introduction, main body, and conclusion.

Documentation

  • APA should be used for in-text citations and the reference page.

Writing

  • The literature review should be well written and error free. Use spell check and proofread paper for grammatical errors.
  • The paper should be written in a professional tone. Familiar language (slang) should be avoided.
  • Use direct quotations sparingly (paraphrasing is encouraged) and make sure quotes are properly documented.
  • Be as concise and clear as possible throughout your paper.
  • Each sentence should logically flow into the next sentence and each paragraph should transition smoothly to the next paragraph.

Module 5 ethics in psychology

You are to write an ethical profile paper that recognizes the formative influence of your family, heroes, and personal style on you as an ethical professional. This paper will provide a profile of you in regards to your ethical and professional practice. You will be required to include information on who you are as an ethical professional, how this course has shaped your unique ethical decision-making style, and the areas in which you feel still need further development.

Include the following four sections in your paper:

  1. Ethical Autobiography: First, explain how you think through and determine what is “right” and “wrong” (personally and professionally) in your own daily life. Second, identify four examples of ethical behaviors and explain how your cultural heritage has shaped your values. Third, describe the nature of the four ethical behaviors you see in yourself.
  2. Professional/Ethical Hero: First, identify an ethical “hero,” an individual that has most impressed you and serves as your role model because of their professional/ethical presence (i.e., sensitivity, appropriate boundaries, and respect for privacy, ethical commitment, and ethical courage). Elaborate on his or her ethical characteristics. Discuss how this person can (or does) serve as a role model for others in the helping profession. Second, describe how this “hero” has influenced your value system. Click here to read an article on ethical hero.
  3. Ethical Decision-Making Style: This section will articulate your implicit style in terms of ethical decision making. Although there are specific models that help facilitate ethical decision making, everyone has his or her own unique style. Taking into consideration the ethical decision-making models presented in this course, identify the style that reflects your early and ongoing experiences with moral values and issues that has been influenced and shaped by your parents, relatives, peers, and valued adults in your life, such as a teacher or coach. Use what you have written from your autobiography to supplement this discussion. In summary, explain your implicit ethical decision-making style, including how this course and your cultural heritage have served as influential factors.
  4. Professional and Ethical Development: Ethical development is, for most, a career-long process. In the last section of your paper, please identify at least two areas discussed in this module/course where you feel you would benefit from more development. Lastly, suggest ways in which you can acquire your further development.

Please include information from two or more external scholarly references using APA formatting for all citations.

Your paper should be approximately 6–8 pages in length, be double-spaced, in 12 point, Times New Roman font with normal 1” margins; be written in APA style; and be free of typographical and grammatical errors. It should include a title page with a running head, an abstract, and a reference page.

Moral and Ethical Considerations: Consider quality of life, human rights, codes of ethics, privacy, accountability, corporate responsibility government responsibility, individual responsibility (e.g., ways of dying and rights of dying). What ethical values are expressed implicitly or explicitly by this technology? Pride (being the first-to-get-to-the moon kind of thing)? Greed? Power? Fraud? Theft? Deception? Lies? Whose rights are violated? Whose rights are honored? Consumer rights? The rights of the general public? Freedom? Authority? Control? What are the major moral concerns associated with the creation and adoption of this technology? Remember the e-Waste example in the reading I gave you—the disposal of dangerous toxins in “poorer” countries, the not-in-my-backyard phenomenon. What do religious groups have to say (this group thing may fit better in the sociology section)? For example, contraceptives generally prevent pregnancy but for some this technology violates what they call “natural law” and their religious belief in God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply.” Look at corporate code of ethics, professional codes of ethics (IEEE, etc.) available through websites such as Illinois Institute of Technology’s and Case Western Reserve University’s (compilation) or ethicsonline.org. Look at the companies developing the technology and check out their “codes of ethics” to determine whether the technology they are developing is in keeping with their mission and values. Who is responsible if something goes wrong or if critical information is withheld from the public? Example: asbestos and cigarettes

. All students should review the paper to ensure that the transitions are smooth, that the sections fit together, and that the bibliographies are compiled correctly.

The paper should conclude with recommendations for further research or possible solutions that could be evaluated. A complete list of references, in APA format, should follow along with any Appendices.

·       Title Page (not included in page count)

·       Table of Contents – indicating student sections (not included in page count)

·       Abstract – 200-word summary of the entire paper; it is not a restatement of the introduction (not included in page count)

·       Report

o   Introduction that provides background information, establishes the context and significance of the issues and the technology (your thesis statement) and generally orients your reader to the entire project. It should outline the scope of the investigation, and comment on any challenges the team faced with respect to research sources.

o   Report sections, organized using at least level-1 and level-2 headings.

o   Proper documentation throughout the report using APA style.  (Each member is responsible for documenting properly, and undocumented or poorly cited material will count as plagiarism—a failing grade for the paper.)

o   Appropriate visuals/graphic aids in the document that are discussed in the body of the report and support the thesis (e.g., a table, graph, chart, illustration, photograph, diagram, map, etc.); mathematical or statistical data is appropriately used to support conclusions. All visuals/graphic aids also need to be properly documented.

o   Conclusion that effectively synthesizes the sections of the report. It should summarize key issues. Included in this section should be Recommendations for Further Research, following up on any questions that were uncovered during your research or suggestions for groups/events to follow.

·       Bibliography and appendix (not included in the page count but significant in showing you “found” relevant stuff that would not fit into the body of the text—brochures, charts, handouts, samples of materials or products, or team process reports, etc.). Wise groups begin the bibliography early and start gathering related materials for the Appendix.
