Almost from its inception, the personal computer marketplace became fragmented around choices about which operating system people thought was best or coolest, or about which choice of systems offered users the best integrated and reliable options versus price. But while that Apple vs. Microsoft debate rages on, look what’s happened: the basic idea of personal computing has profoundly changed. It’s not only about manipulating the contents of files anymore — it’s more about bringing streams of interaction to your fingertips, or to the blink of your eye.

Other portable device makers have entered this marketplace — Linux-based choices, Android-based systems (owned by Google), and other technologies are becoming more and more commonplace. Dual-personality systems (or “dual-boot”) are much easier to buy and operate. And the devices themselves come with the underlying OS buried further and further away from what the user interacts with.

For which kinds of computing and information systems do users really need to care about underlying technologies — which is what an operating system is? Which kinds of users ought to pay more attention to how well a variety of devices and applications work together (and how seamlessly)? Which kind of user are you? And… do you want to be the other kind?

The National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) was created based on the recommendation by the 9/11 Commission, in the wake of the terrorist attacks in September 2001, in an effort to eliminate duplication and create a more effective way to organize and evaluate terrorism-related intelligence. According to the Commission, the NCTC should be the center for joint operational planning and joint intelligence.

In my specific position as a contracting officer within an acquisitions office, we are pretty much managing independent workloads for individual specific acquisition needs.  We do however, meet or huddle weekly to share ideas, obtain current acquisition specific information impacting the organization and to stay connected to each other as a branch.  In addition, each member of the branch is expected to pick an acquisition and/or organization related topic to present/share with everyone.  I find that when we miss these weekly meetings staff members feel as though they are being kept in the dark about something.

Purchasing and Supply Management Contribution.

 

Explain and describe two (2) areas or ways you feel supply management contributes to meet organizational success. Choose any areas from our Chapter 1 reading this week to base your response on and share why you selected those areas as important contributions for a business.

Question 4=

The first area that I feel contributes more than 50% to the success of an organization would be Risk Management. Having a contingency plan in place, allows individuals the ability to assess tradeoffs that could impact the budget, schedule, or performance. In example, raw material supplier runs out of a required item and due to time restraints on the project, the organization is forced to purchase items above market rate from a new supplier. Having at least (3) suppliers available as back-ups, which have already been pre-screened: they provide same service or product, delivery capabilities, and compatible prices, will avoid supply delays.

                The second area that I feel contributes the other 50% to the success of an organizations would be customer satisfaction. In this day and time word of mouth is how many companies become staples in a competitive market. The primary reason businesses operate is to provide a product or service that enhances value for the end user (the customer). If customers are happy and satisfied with the product or services being provided it can indirectly secures future businesses opportunities. However, if customers are not satisfied it will quickly destroys follow-on work. Keeping the business customer centered, anticipating customer needs, streamlining processes to make them customer friendly, and listening to customer feedback contributes directly to meeting organizational success.
