How Many People to Survey?

Poll results are prevalent in the media, especially leading up to elections, as are reports on surveys done by universities and research groups.

The survey results of small groups of people are used to portray a general consensus about a population. Do you ever wonder how many people should be included in a survey to make it a meaningful reflection of a population? Now you will be able to answer your own question. After learning this, you might never feel the same about these polls and surveys again.

Using the following specific resources, create a lecture (with citations) that includes the following:

Part 1: Survey Analysis

Entertainment Survey

Using a newspaper article from the AIU library’s full-text database: Newsstand (ProQuest), create a lecture (with citations) that includes the following:

  • Describe an entertainment poll or survey. Analyze the number of people who participated in the sample compared to the number in the population. Most news articles will not provide information on the number of people surveyed. In this case, critique the validity of the results. (Be sure to cite the article which must be from Newsstand ProQuest) Here is a Research Guide.
  • Discuss how the results of the survey can be used to tell a story or support an idea of the sponsoring company or media group.

Political Survey

Use polls from one of the following sources:

Source 1

Source 2

  • Describe a political poll or survey. Analyze the number of people who participated in the sample compared to the number in the population.
  • Discuss how the results of the survey can be used to tell a story or support an idea of the sponsoring company or media group.

General Survey

Use polls from one of the following sources:

Source 1

Source 2

  • Describe a general opinion poll or survey. Analyze the number of people who participated in the sample compared to the number in the population.
  • Discuss how the results of the survey can be used to tell a story or support an idea of the sponsoring company or media group.

Overview

Consider the 3 surveys presented.

  • Using the knowledge you learned from the textbook, compare and contrast the sample sizes in each of the three surveys mentioned in the post and determine if the samples sizes are appropriate.
  • In your opinion, which appears to be the most valid? (Cite and reference the textbook)

This section of the paper will be 2–3 pages in length, and each survey or poll described must come from AIU Library’s National Newspapers ProQuest Database and the sources provided.

Please do not use quotes or copy definitions. You will not receive credit for understanding the materials if you use the words of others. Keep in mind that because you did research and you have citations in the body of the post, you must also place a reference list at the end containing the textbook and the articles cited.

Part 2: Application

Create your own 3-question entertainment survey or using this General Opinion Survey or another free survey program or this link. Secure a minimum of 20 responses. Your survey respondents may be friends, family or classmates. (Note: The small sample size was chosen for convenience, and as you know, is not a valid sample. The goal is for you to create, deploy, and analyze a simple survey.)

Create Excel charts of your results and describe those charts in words. (You will receive no credit for charts that are copied from the survey software.)

  • Include a copy of your survey
  • Provide charts of your results and describe those charts in words
  • Explain how the results of your survey can be used by a media group or company

This section of the paper will contain 1 page of text and 3 charts.

Project Deliverable 2: Business Requirements

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: a business requirements document and a project plan. You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

Documenting the existing IT network and system is an important first step, but you, the CIO, know that capturing the needed changes can be critical to your success as an executive. You know that procuring and documenting quality business requirements is an important step toward the design of quality information systems. Completion of a quality requirements document allows user needs and expectations to be captured, so that infrastructure and information systems can be designed properly. Using the requirements document provided in the course shell as a part of the requirements gathering process, you are to assess the needs of the company as it prepares to become a multinational organization. You must consider current and future trends and requirements; however, assumptions should be realistic and carefully considered. The needs of the organization should be documented. Later deliverables will focus on specifics of all requirements.

Section 1: Business Requirements Document

Write a four to six (4-6) page original business requirements document for the project plan using the template provided here. Note: The template can also be found in the Student Center of the online course shell.

Describe the project needs, including the following:

1.       Describe the scope and analyze how to control the scope.

2.       Speculate and give justifications for how to control scope.

3.       Identify possible risks, constraints, and assumptions.

4.       Describe the needed integration with other systems and infrastructure. Note: Database and Data Warehousing, Cloud Technology and Virtualization, and Network Infrastructure and Security.

5.       Assess the human capital that may be needed to complete the project, ensuring that necessary skill sets are identified.

6.       Speculate on possible outsourcing or offshoring needs that may be required to accomplish project.

7.       Define relevant terms that will be used throughout the project.

8.       Include cost projections for staffing, infrastructure, and other resources.

9.       Use at least two (2) quality resources in this assignment (must be linked to the source). Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

·         Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

·         Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

Section 2: Revised Project Plan

Use Microsoft Project to:

1.       Update the project plan (summary and detail) template, from Project Deliverable 1: Project Plan Inception, with three to five (3-5) new project tasks, each consisting of five to ten (5-10) subtasks.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

·         Describe the integrative functions and activities within the information systems area, including the role of the CIO and technologies managed within the organization.

Regression Analysis

Students will choose a company of their liking and use any of the 2 (qualitative or quantitative) research and analysis methods to demonstrate selected perceptions of the company. This project requires you to research, review, and analyze perceptions of the company. Specifically, your research paper will include the following:

  • Provide background information on the chosen organization
  • Description of the diverse literature available on varied research methods
  • Identify the type of research method to be used and justify the reasons for using a particular approach
  • Undertake the research method for data collection and analysis and present the findings

Present your findings as a Word document of 5–6 pages (body of paper) formatted in APA style.

Please submit your assignment.

Submitting your assignment in APA format means, at a minimum, you will need the following:

  1. Title Page: Remember the Running head: AND TITLE IN ALL CAPITALS.
  2. Abstract: A summary of your paper, not an introduction. Begin writing in third person voice.
  3. Body: The body of your paper begins on the page following the title page and abstract page and must be double-spaced (be careful not to triple- or quadruple-space between paragraphs). The type face should be 12-pt. Times Roman or 12-pt. Courier in regular black type. Do not use color, bold type, or italics except as required for APA-level headings and references. The deliverable length of the body of your paper for this assignment is 5–6 pages. In-body academic citations to support your decisions and analysis are required. A variety of academic sources is encouraged.
  4. Reference Page: References that align with your in-body academic sources are listed on the final page of your paper. The references must be in APA format using appropriate spacing, hang indention, italics, and upper and lower case usage as appropriate for the type of resource used. Remember, the Reference Page is not a bibliography but a further listing of the abbreviated in-body citations used in the paper. Every referenced item must have a corresponding in-body citation.

For Wizard Kim: Peer Pressure and Crime

Peer Pressure and Crime

One afternoon at work, Natalie received a phone call from her daughter’s teacher. It seemed that Brandi had got into trouble, and Natalie would need to meet with Brandi’s teacher and the school principal. Natalie could not imagine what the trouble could be. Brandi was a straight-A student, played soccer, and was part of the school band. She also helped out with chores at home. On the way to the school, Natalie decided she would not jump to conclusions but would hear Brandi’s side of the story. Then, she would let Brandi have a piece of her mind!

At school, Natalie met the school principal; Brandi’s teacher; and a crying, red-eyed Brandi. Brandi and two other girls had stolen a pack of cigarettes from a teacher’s purse and were caught smoking in the woods behind the school. Worse, one of the other girls had stolen the teacher’s prescription medication, though Brandi said she did not know anything about that. The principal and teacher said that this was a serious breach of trust and was against school policy. They knew Brandi and were “shocked” that she was involved in this activity. In private consultation with Natalie, they said that Brandi was involved with the wrong crowd, but there was still time to intervene before she developed a pattern of bad behavior.

Natalie left the meeting angry with Brandi, but also feeling guilty and responsible. She had been working extra hours and was often busy with her schoolwork. Perhaps she had neglected Brandi or missed important warning signs. She would ground Brandi, but more importantly, she would pay much closer attention to whom she befriended and where she went. Natalie decided she would establish a schedule where she would help the girls’ do their homework.

Natalie felt tired. After all the years of guidance and parenting, how could “two stupid tweens” undo all her hard work? She felt she had worked hard teaching Brandi and Jenny how to make good decisions and to know right from wrong. She worried what the next ten years would bring. She pondered the possibilities of other peer influences, alcohol, drugs, and boys.

Research differential association theory and social learning theory as applied to criminal behavior and crime using the textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Select two scholarly, peer-reviewed articles for use in this assignment.

Based on the scenario, your readings and research, respond to the following:

  • How could Brandi’s behavior be explained using differential association theory?
  • How could Brandi’s behavior be explained using social learning theory?
  • What are the strengths and limitations of these two theories as applied to this example?

Be sure to support your responses using the selected resources.

Write your initial response in 5 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Must have at least 2-3references

Can someone please help me with this paper?

The mayor expects you to present a 6- to 8-page research paper that explains your findings and utilizes supporting documentation from a minimum of five references in APA format to validate your research.

Overall, your research paper should help the city of Centervale to prepare for potential terrorist attacks by identifying the most likely ways in which attacks might occur.

Take into consideration the following possible actions:

  1. Detecting explosives in public places and transportation networks and other such preventive measures
  2. Helping protect critical infrastructure and cyber networks from attack
  3. Detecting agents of biological warfare
  4. Building information-sharing partnerships with state and local law enforcement that can enable law enforcement to mitigate threats

Tasks:

As you construct your report for the mayor, take the following aspects into consideration:

  1. Analyze and determine the potential areas of risk for the city of Centervale by selecting one of these areas of concern as the focus of your report:
    1. The local airport
    2. The water filtration system
    3. Community facilities

Explain, on the basis of research, why the mentioned areas would be a potential target for terrorists and how an attack would occur and potentially affect the community.

  2. Profile the potential terrorist organizations by providing your analysis on the terrorist organization that is most likely to launch an attack on Centervale. On the basis of the organization’s main causes or ideologies, explain why it is likely to attack the area you selected.
  3. Evaluate where and how the terrorist organization may be able to obtain the resources necessary to launch an attack on Centervale. You should consider all the potential resources. Include effective strategies to verify the legitimacy of each potential terrorist resource without violating the rights of Centervale’s citizens.
  4. Create a counterterrorism preparedness plan for preparing for and preventing terrorist attacks and protecting the citizens of Centervale from harm. Compare this plan with the preparedness measures offered by the Department of Homeland Security for individuals, families, and businesses. Go to http://www.ready.gov/ to view other types of comparative preparedness plans.
