In this task, you are required to build time-series predictive models (full-sample and real-time) to predict

future equity premium i.e. equity return in excess of the risk-free rate. You will use term structure of

interest rates and default yield spreads as your predictors.

    1.2 Data

    1. Download Predictor2018.csv from Blackboard.

    2. The file contains various aggregate economic variables from Jan 1871 to Dec 2018. More details

about the variable definition can be found in Welch and Goyal (2008).

    3. You want to build predictive models on monthly frequency data. Your sample period is from Jan

    1926 to Dec 2018.

    4. You are interested in the following variables:

    • Rfree: Risk-free rate,

    • tbl: Treasury-bill rate,

    • lty: Long-term government bond yield,

    • AAA: AAA-rate coporate bond yield,

    • BAA: BAA-rated corporate bond yield,

    • CRSP_SPvw: S/P 500 stock market returns including dividends.

    1.3 The Variables

    A. Construct the term structure of interest rates (tms) and default yield spreads (dfy) variables. (5

    marks)

Assignment 1: Testing for Multiple Regression This Assignment includes two parts, Part 1 and Part 2.

Assignment 1: Testing for Multiple Regression
This Assignment includes two parts, Part 1 and Part 2. For this Assignment, you will complete Part 1where you will create a research question that can be answered using with multiple regression analysis.
    Part 1
To prepare for this Part 1 of your Assignment:
    · Review this week’s Learning Resources and media program related to multiple regression.
    · Using the SPSS software, open the High School Longitudinal Study dataset (ATTACHED)) found in the Learning Resources for this week.
    · Based on the dataset you chose, construct a research question that can be answered with a multiple regression analysis.
    · Once you perform your multiple regression analysis, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document.
    For this Part 1 Assignment:
Write a 1-page analysis of your multiple regression results for each research question. In your analysis, display the data for the output. Based on your results, provide an explanation of what the implications of social change might be.
Use proper APA format, citations, and referencing for your analysis, research question, and display of output.
    Assignment: Testing for Multiple Regression
NOW you completed your Part 1 for this Assignment. For this week, you will complete Part 2 where you will create a research question that can be answered through multiple regression using dummy variables.
    Part 2
To prepare for this Part 2 of your Assignment:
    · Review Warner’s Chapter 12 and Chapter 2 of the Wagner course text and the media program found in this week’s Learning Resources and consider the use of dummy variables.
    · Using the SPSS software, open  the High School Longitudinal Study dataset (ATTACHED).
    · Consider the following:
o Create a research question with metric variables and one variable that requires dummy coding. Estimate the model and report results. Note: You are expected to perform regression diagnostics and report that as well.
    · Once you perform your analysis, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document.
    For this Part 2 Assignment:
Write a 2page analysis of your multiple regression using dummy variables results for each research question. In your analysis, display the data for the output. Based on your results, provide an explanation of what the implications of social change might be

Received from Irma Good the amount owed on an August 7 dishonoured note, plus extra interest for 30 days at 4 percent computed on the maturity value of the note ($12,600). This dishonoured note had been converted to an account receivable on August 7. Received notice that a customer (Tony Goad) has filed for bankruptcy. Goad owes $19,200. The courts will confirm the amount recoverable at a later date. Determined the account receivable from Kay Walsh ($9,120) was uncollect- ible and wrote it off. Received a cheque from the courts in the amount of $15,000 as final settle- ment of Goad's account. Elbow Inc. paid the note received on September 2. Determined the account receivable for Dave Campbell ($5,040) was uncol- lectible and wrote it off. Sales for the month totalled $720,000 (of which 85 percent were on account) and collections on account totalled $601,200. Eastern Supply did an aging of accounts receivable that indicated that $75,000 is expected to be uncollectible. The company recorded the appro- priate adjustment 30 1. Record the above transactions in the general journal. 2. What would be the adjusting entry required on September 30 if the company used the percent-of-sales method with an estimate of uncollectibles equal to 8 percent of credit sales? 3. Which of the two methods of estimating uncollectible accounts would normally be more accurate? Why?
