George Junius Stinney Jr. was, at age 14, the youngest person executed in the United States in the 20th century (1944) The boy was very small for his age (5’1) so small, they had to stack books on the electric chair.

Because there is literally NO EVIDENCE AGAINST HIM (accused of murdering two white girls) …the question of Stinney’s guilt and the judicial process leading to his execution remain controversial (ie. there’s a strong possibility they executed an INNOCENT person)

The police rounded up several black boys from the area besides George, according to his brother.

(  – compare little George in this actual photo to the two white guys wearing hats)

“The lack of any or archived police and court records is the reason South Carolina attorney Steve McKenzie, who detailed Stinney’s story to TheGrio, said he wants to re-open the case of the execution George Junius Stinney, Jr. McKenzie said he believes Stinney was innocent of the murder and with “no investigative notes, no trial transcripts, no written confession, and nothing to indicate guilt,” it is clear Stinney’s trial and subsequent execution were suspicious at best and a miscarriage of justice at worst.

HI6008 BUSINESS RESEARCH PROJECT – ASIGNMENT 3 – BUSINESS RESEARCH

PROJECT REPORT

Assignment 3 – the Research Design and Methodology – is to ensure each student is able to contribute to theconstruction of a written report demonstrating their understanding of the business research paradigm, appropriate methodology, data collection, analysis and interpretation. You will ideally work in a group of up to 3 persons. Your respective contributions will be governed by yourTeam Charter, which you produced at the same time as your Topic Approval submission. Additionally, youare required to append to this report a statement indicating ‘who wrote which sections’.This assessment builds upon your Literature Review (assessment 2) in that you are now aware of whatadditional data is needed to lead you to the answer to your research question(s) (as defined in TopicApproval (assessment 1). To discover the required data may require you to search for additional secondarydata, and will most probably also require the collection of primary data, by applying qualitative orquantitative methods. In this assessment you will document what your team has decided as the mostappropriate way forward. If you choose a quantitative approach, you will go ahead and state yourhypothesis, how you intend to verify it, what data you need, how it can be collected and analysed. [Notethat you are NOT required to actually obtain primary data]. If you choose a qualitative approach, you will goahead and decide which method is appropriate, how you would design the questionnaire (include a fewexample questions), and state how you would collate and interpret your data. [Note that you are NOTrequired to actually obtain primary data].

Then specify the range of operations which will be needed for the library system.

For each of these operations, discuss the most suitable sorting or searching method and why your chosen algorithm for each operation is the most appropriate.

A nearby University wants to use your system.

Look at table 2 in the customer analysis reading. Work out what the numbers in the table signify, particularly “Comp” “Pen” and “Index”. Calculate the missing figures for “white picket fences”.
What do these segment names denote ? For example, “Blue Blood Estates” ?
What are the major segmentation bases that are generally used by marketers ? (refer to the customer analysis reading). How are these bases actually used for segmentation ?
Consider these segmentation variables again. Suppose you are a brand manager for Toyota. How would you / could you segment the car market and target customers on the basis of (a) age (b) social class (c) family size (d) income. Then think through the rationale as to why you would do this. How would you action the results ?
The list of things we need to know about customers is – who buys, what they buy, how, their preference for one over another, response to marketing programs, will they buy again. How do you determine ‘who buys ? – can you give an example of an answer to the ‘who buys question for say, a company that makes windows ? (perhaps there is more than one group of buyers).

Your Task. Use at least five primary and five secondary sources in researching your topic. Your primary research will be in the form of interviews with individuals (owners, users, salespeople, technicians) in a position to comment on attributes of your product. Secondary research will be in the form of print or electronic sources, such as magazine articles, owner manuals, and Web sites. Be sure to use InfoTrac and the Web to find appropriate articles. Your report should analyze and discuss at least three comparable models or versions of the target product. Decide what criteria you will use to compare the models, such as price, features, warranty, service, and so forth. The report should include these components: letter of transmittal, table of contents, executive summary, introduction (including background, purpose, scope of the study, and research methods), findings (organized by comparison criteria), summary of findings, conclusions, recommendations, and bibliography.
