First five question are 16 marks each, Last question 20 marks) 1. A) Give classification of manufacturing process. B) List the essential properties of molding sand. State the effect of each properties on casting. During casting of metals in the foundry shop we uses sand for the preparation of mould. It is the moulding sand properties which improves the quality of the casting metal. If a sand of suitable property is chosen, than it greatly minimises the casting defects that may be produced during the mould preparation and casting. In this section we will discuss all the properties of moulding sand that it must possesses for the preparation of excellent mould cavity. A moulding sand should possess the following 6 properties ? Porosity- It is the ability of sand by which it allows the gases to pass through it easily. ? Flowability- The ability of moulding sand to behave like a fluid when it is rammed is called flow ability. ? Collapsibility- The ability of the moulding sand to collapse after solidification of the molten metal is called collapsibility. ? Adhesiveness- The ability of the sand particles to get stick with another body is called adhesiveness. ? Cohesiveness or strength- The ability of the sand particles to stick with each other is called cohesiveness. ? Refractoriness- The ability of the moulding sand to withstand the high temperature of the molten metal without fusing into it is called refractoriness. 2. A) Sketch the cross section of a sand mould which is ready for pouring and label the important parts. B) Explain centrifugal casting process. What is the main difference between semi-centrifugal and centrifuging casting process. 3. A) Differentiate hot working and cold working. B) Explain tube drawing and wire drawing process. 4. A) Explain why forging is preferred over casting for the same product. B) Explain the wire drawing and tube drawing with neat sketches. 5. A) Write short note on Electron Beam welding B) Explain what springback in bending is. With the help of neat sketches explain methods to counter springback. 6. A) What are the common welding troubles, causes and what are the remedies for them? B) Enlist types of super finishing processes. Discuss the selection criteria for appropriate super finishing process.

    • Design (20%): Are operations broken down in a reasonable way(e.g. classes and methods)?

    • Style (10%): Is the program indented properly? Do variables havemeaningful names?

    • Robustness (10%): Does the program handle erroneous or unexpectedinput gracefully?

    • Documentation (10%): Do all program files begin with a commentthat identifies the author, the course code, and the program date? Are all the classes, methods and data fields clearly documented(commented)? Are unclear parts of code documented (commented)?(Some items mentioned may not apply to some languages)

A program that does not compile (run) will get at most 50% of thepossible points. Attached

Assuming output Y is determined exogenously, and demand for realmoney balances is given by (M/P) d = kY , answer the following: (a) Suppose k changes from period to period. Using the quantityequation MV = P Y , show how inflation is related to money growth, output growth, and growth in k. (b) Holding the money supply M and output Y constant, does afall in k lead to inflation, deflation, or no change in the pricelevel? Explain in words why this is. (c) Since inflation erodes the purchasing power of money, higherinflation could be expected to cause a fall in demand for realbalances. Suppose this is the case. In particular, suppose %∆k =−aπ, where 0 ≤ a < 1, and π is inflation. Under this assumption, show how inflation is related to money growth and output growth(i.e., solve for π in terms of %∆M and %∆Y ). (d) Suppose the central bank always sets %∆M = %∆Y + x, where xis some constant, with x > 0. Based on your answer from (c), ifa increases (but remains less than 1), what will happen toinflation (i.e., will is stay the same, increase, or decrease)?Explain your answer intuitively . . .

The town of Eden Bay owns and maintains a fleet of vehicles. You are a systems analyst reporting to Dawn, the town’s IT manager. Background Eden Bay is a medium-sized municipality. The town has grown rapidly, and so has the demand for town services. Eden Bay currently owns 90 vehicles, which the town’s equipment department maintains. The fleet includes police cars, sanitation trucks, fire trucks, and other vehicles assigned to town employees. The maintenance budget has risen sharply in recent years, and people are ask-ing whether the town should continue to perform its own maintenance or outsource it to private firms. In the first part of the case, you planned a preliminary investigation for a new information sys-tem that would cut costs and improve maintenance efficiency. Based on your investigation, Dawn wants to move forward, and she asked you to help her present a budget request at the next Town Council meeting. She suggested the following to-do list: • First, double-check the cost and benefit data we will need for the proposal (3 days). • Then, start two tasks at the same time: send an e-mail message to the Town Council re-questing that the proposal be placed on the agenda (1 day), and develop the proposal it-self, including all necessary documents and charts (5 days). • As soon as the proposal is complete, start work on two tasks at once: print copies of hand-out material for the meeting (2 days) and develop a PowerPoint presentation (5 days). • When the presentation is ready, conduct a rehearsal for the Council meeting. (2 days). • Finally, when the rehearsal is done and the handout material is ready, help Dawn deliver the presentation. (1 day).
Tasks 1. Prepare a list showing all tasks and their durations. 2. Analyze the fact situation carefully to identify any tasks that are dependent on other tasks. 3. Create a PERT chart that shows the project. Use a format similar to Figure 3-27 on page 110. If project management software is available, use it to develop the chart. 4. What is the critical path for this project? How do you know?
