You are asked to produce a 2000 word report where you discuss what you have learnt from this course. This report is due on the 19th May 2020 by 5pm. This assessment task is worth 30%.

A critical part of developing as an independent student is the ability to reflect on your own learning experiences. This report asks you to undertake an assessment of your own learning processes and outcomes. In particular, the purpose of this piece of assessment is to get you to engage in self-reflection about the knowledge that you have gained as a result of undertaking this course. This analysis should enable you to better understand what you have learned, how you learned, and how any new knowledge, skills, and abilities complement your existing knowledge, skills, and ability.

The report asks you to address a number of different issues, which are outlined below in the criteria for the self-reflection report. It is important that you draw on academic theory and evidence when constructing your self-reflection report.

In this project, you will change file access in Bionic Beaver. This project relates to projects 1 and 2, but only

builds on project 1. In project 1, you attached a tag to each process. In project 2, you used part of this tag to

according to Bell-LaPadula (BLP) to eliminate overt information flows.

Recall that the tag contains two fields:

1. level (the two LSBs, bits 0 and 1) and

2. bitmap (bits 2-30).

As before, two level fields can be compared numerically in a total order: 3 > 2 > 1 > 0. The bitmap fields can be

treated as associating each bit with a need-to-know category. A bitmap with bit b set can be used to represent a

security label indicating that a file contains information specific to category b, or that a user has been cleared to

access information on category b, or that a process has access to category b. In Mandatory Access Control

(MAC), these labels can be used to determine access rights (in addition to the usual discretionary access control

methods).

File access control is decided on the basis of the properties of the process that requests access to a file, and the

properties of that file. In BLP, there are two rules that constrain information flow to be only from less sensitive

to more sensitive, fewer categories to more categories:

1. No read up, and

2. No write down.

Up and down depend upon the labels. A process with label L = is not allowed to read a file with

label L’ = if either level’ > level or if any bit is set in bitmap B’ and is not set in bitmap B (i.e., L

dominates L’). That is, a process can only “read down” to a file at the same or lower level, and containing

information associated with a subset of the need-to-know categories for which the process is authorized. This

prevents information from flowing from a more restricted file to a less restricted process. To prevent

information flow from a more restricted process to a less restricted file, a process with label L = is

not allowed to write to a file with label L’ = if either level > level’ or if any bit is set in B and is not

set in B’ (i.e., L is dominated by L’). That is, a process can only “write up” to a file at the same or higher level,

containing information associated with a superset of the need-to-know categories for which the process is

authorized.

Is the organization of the work an important factor? Does its organization help me

Organization

The length or your essay and whether you respond to a single passage or to an entire work will vary with the assignment. Regardless of length and breadth, all critical responses include the following basic elements:

o Analysis: Evaluate the evidence: sufficient (enough evidence, examples),

representative(large enough pool/sample), relevant(accurate correlations),

accurate, claims fairly qualified o Transition

Requirements

In a previous extra credit assignment, you examined how non-fiction documentaries

represented crime. For this assignment, please select one episode from a fiction-based

television series or a movie that deals with policing and law enforcement. The type of

show you choose is entirely up to you. For example, you could watch one or two

episodes of a fictional cop show that focuses on catching counterfeiters or watch a movie

that represents the lives of police officers. The only selection requirement is that it

should be fiction and strongly related to policing. Whatever you choose, I want it to be

something that people enjoy consuming. If you get stuck and need help selecting a show,

After you watch your show(s), please develop a three-page paper that examines how your

show communicates the “reality” of policing. How you do this is mostly up to you and

will depend partly on the show/movie you select. However, your overall goal for this

paper should be to analyze how the TV show/movie represents policing, and how that

Structure of the Paper

A. Introduction:

In this section (which should comprise most of the paper) you should critically review and

analyze the show/movie. While your paper can briefly describe the main plot points, you

should not provide a point-by-point summary everything that happened in your show.

Instead, I want you to critically discuss and analyze how the show/movie constructs

policing. For example, your paper could address one or more of the following questions.

What does this show tell us about the police/law enforcement? If all of the public’s

knowledge about policing/law enforcement came from this source, what would they “know”

about this institution? How accurate is this representation of policing? Does the show or

movie imply that there is one particular way that policing/law enforcement should be conducted? Are there any potential consequences for how policing is represented in this

show?

Overall, I am willing to grant you some flexibility in how you structure this section. You

also have a great deal of discretion regarding the types of issues, questions, and concerns

you raise. However, your discussion must be thoughtful and well reasoned.

C. Conclusion

In this section, you should provide a summary of your argument and very briefly reflect on

the implications of your findings.
