  2. Compare and contrast criminal justice organizations with nonprofit organizations.
Remember to cite information from the reading of the books for the db and cite from at least 2 other sources, (books, etc.). Word count has to be at least 350 words. You should have the books on this CJUS class.
 
Next: Is a Final Essay that I will attach the directions and article for which you are to write from, but also use citing from the required books for CJUS 530 class and other sources. This HAS TO BE GREAT… I will attach it.

Final Essay will require you to respond to one broad based question about criminal justice administration. In essence, you will be asked to demonstrate critical thinking about controversial issues in criminal justice administration and take a position on which course of action would be the best approach for criminal justice administrators. You must format your essays as you would a formal paper, following the guidelines set forth for papers in this course. To adequately respond to the question, you will need to write at least 3 pages (not including the title, abstract, and resource pages.) The essays are open book/open notes.

 

Final Essay Question: 

Truth is the key to making good and well-informed decisions in management. However, criminal justice organizations in some jurisdictions do not practice the ethics of truth. They do not create trust in their ability to deal with their citizens and fellow criminal justice organizations with truthfulness in a court of law. Many years ago some folks said, “if we don’t clean this mess up, someone else is going to clean it up for us.” The article you are reading for this essay was written in 2007, about three years after this old issue came back with a vengeance. It, too, will cost money, if you do not have a decisional policy point and procedure in place before that court date arrives. Do not ever think that cannot happen here, because it always does. Two very key cases here: Brady v. Maryland and Giglio v. United States.

The writer poses the question, “Should Police Officers Who Lie Be Terminated as a Matter of Public Policy?”

As you strive to answer the question, keep the following in mind:

  • It is simple, but is it fair?

  • Is it possible that you could lose some really good personnel who only messed up once in their whole career?

  • What effect will such a drastic measure have on the personnel’s families?

  • If you keep them, will it affect the overall credibility of your agency?

  • What conclusion does the writer reach? Why or why not?

  • What policy would you recommend for your chief, sheriff, warden, state police commissioner, and/or any other affiliated executive with whom you may work?

What a busy five weeks we have had! We have learned to use moral reasoning and examined many ethical theories in this course. These include virtue ethics, utilitarianism, social contract, deontology with goals (Hinduism and Buddhism), deontology with divine authority (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), relativism (individual and cultural), and deontology with a categorical imperative (Kant).

Think back about your impressions of each of these ethical systems and write a 1,000 to 1,250-word essay that addresses the following questions below. Be sure to write good introductory and concluding paragraphs in your essay.

  1. Summarize the principle components of each of the seven ethical systems studied in this course (listed above), including the principle ethicist involved in developing the system. Use two or three sentences for each ethical system.
  2. Which ethical system is most prevalent in the United States today? In the World?  Explain your answer and support your response.
  3.  Which ethical system most closely matches your personal ethical system? Why do you think so?  Explain your position.
  4. Please give a short, personal example that supports your decision to identify your ethical system (3 or 4 sentences) and explain why it does so.
  5. Examine your response to previous assignments in Modules 1 thru 4 in this course.  Are there any inconsistencies or conflict between positions you took in earlier assignments and the ethical system identified in this paper? For example, monotheists (Christians, Muslims, and Jews) believe in universal maxims. Relativists do not think universal maxims are possible.  One cannot, for example be a Christian and believe no universal maxims exist, which is a relativist position. Monotheism (Christianity) and relativism are polar opposites. If inconsistencies exist between your earlier answers and this paper, how do you resolve them in your ethical decision-making process in the real world?
  6. Add at least three references to support your analysis in this paper.
