Identifying, building, and providing appropriate preventative health care, school nurses assist schools to the health and well-being of their children.

CHN provides nursing in many settings. School nursing provides community health care for children in the United States. A school nurse is a registered nurse whose main focus is the health and well being of all students. “The school nurse is responsible for monitoring the health of all students” (Nies & McEwen, p. 587, 2018). School nurses maintain health records such as vaccinations, provide screenings such as vision and hearing, provide emergency care, and care of the ill child.

Based on the three levels of care, primary, secondary, and tertiary, a level of prevention is secondary. The school nurse, functioning as a CHN, provides secondary care. A level of prevention is secondary care. “Examples include immunization and taking regular exercise to prevent health problems developing in the future” (Lumen). Secondary prevention includes those preventive measures that lead to early diagnosis and prompt treatment of disease, illness, or injury.

At this level of prevention, the nurse can, 1- schedule routine screenings for vision and hearing, scoliosis, eating disorders, obesity, anxiety, depression, anger, dental, and abuse. 2- Identify case findings, identify at-risk students. 3- Provide treatment, administer medications, develop individual health plans, implement procedures and tasks necessary for special needs students, and administer first aid. 4- Arrange for home visits. Assist with family counseling and assess special and at-risk students.

Calculate the following time value of money problems using Microsoft® Excel®:

  1. If we place $8,592.00 in a savings account paying 7.5 percent interest compounded annually, how much will our account accrue to in 9.5 years?
  2. What is the present value of $992 to be received in 13.5 years from today if our discount rate is 3.5 percent?
  3. If you bought a stock for $45 dollars and could sell it fifteen years later for three times what you originally paid. What was your return on owning this stock?

PICOT is utilized by the health care community to identify and study a nursing or medical practice problem.

Question Description

  1. PICOT is utilized by the health care community to identify and study a nursing or medical practice problem. Consequently, PICOT examples that may provide insight into the use of the PICOT process, may not be relevant to nursing practice as they are based on a medical practice problem.Describe the difference between a nursing practice problem and a medical practice problem. Provide one example of each. Discuss why is it important to ensure your PICOT is based on a nursing practice problem.
  2. Requirement: Each post must be substantive and have two references to support what you are saying. At least one of these references must be a peer reviewed article. The recommended word count is no less than 150-200 words. This first discussion question asks you to define the difference between a nursing problem and a medical problem when it comes to a PICOT question and or practice problem. Remember, the PICOT question needs to be developed on something you as a nurse can do without a physician order. Be sure you are comparing it to something and remember to place a time frame. I have attached a PICOT template. The template is a guide for creating one PICOT question of your choice.

Chapter 15, Postpartum Adaptations

  • You are caring for Linda, who has just delivered her first baby. You are responsible for assessing Linda’s condition during recovery and for doing patient teaching when the opportunity arises. (Learning Objectives 1 and 2)
  • Gretta and Sam just had their first child. Gretta is excited and talkative about her birth experience and wants to keep her baby with her constantly. She tells you his name is Joseph and they will call him “Joey” for short. Gretta is breast-feeding and is attentive to Joey’s needs. You observe that Sam does not initiate contact with the baby but when Gretta insists that he hold Joey, he picks him up slowly and awkwardly and stares at his face for a long period of time. When Joey cries, he immediately returns him to Gretta’s arms. (Learning Objective 7)
  1. While she is recovering, you keep checking her fundal height. Linda asks you how her uterus will go back to the way it was before she had the baby. How would you explain this physiologic process? What could impede the process?
  2. Linda wants to know how long she should expect to bleed. What would you tell her?
  3. The next day Linda appears very passive and you have overheard her telling everyone who will listen about her labor experience. What phase of adjustment is Linda going through? What other stages should she go through while adjusting to her new role?
  • Based on your observations of Sam’s interactions with Joey, where is Sam developmentally in the process of paternal attachment and bonding?
  • What nursing interventions could you implement that would assist Sam in the transition to fatherhood?
