How are we to make sense of the extraordinary evolution in world history from 1400 to the present?

In 1400 China dominated the Eastern part of Afro-Eurasian world. By 1500 European states began their rise. This relatively small continent continued to gain economic, political, and cultural power over the rest of the world until the World Wars of the first half of the 20^th. Between 1945 and the 1990s a Cold War consumed the world as American capitalism and Soviet communism contested for power around the world. Since, the start of the twenty-first century, however, we are seeing China starting to reassert its earlier primacy in the wake of the relative decline of the USA and Europe. Is there, thus, a more fully global civilization emerging? What role will India and Africa play across the twenty-first century?

Humans have long created art, even before they developed into civilizations. Artistic representations reflect the beliefs, customs, norms, mores, and social structures of people, though sometimes it takes time to understand what is being conveyed by a piece of art. By looking closely, we get a visual representation of the people and societies that existed in the past. By studying the visual remnants of the past, it also gives students the opportunity to tap into different learning styles and concepts.

First, explain in simple contemporary language what is going on in each set of lines (or stanza)—write as if this were being said today in a local club or bar. In other words, change the language here from that of late 19th century England to that of a club in your city or region today.
