  • Locate the mission statement for your health care organization or an organization with which you are familiar. Consider how current information management practices support the organization’s mission statement. If there is a lack of evidence of support, what changes could be made to strengthen these practices?

Experimental research is an objective, systematic, highly controlled experiment in order to predict and control a phenomena in nursing practice. It is the most powerful quantitative method due to using controls to compare during the experiment. All the individuals would have to pass a screening to verify that they all possessed the same important characteristics needed for this research being done. The degree of the control achieved in experimental studies varies according to the population studied, variable examined, and environment of the study. There are 3 main characteristics of all experimental studies:

1) the independent variable which uses the control of at least 1 variable

2) only exposing some subjects to the treatment while the others receive placebos

3) randomly assign the subjects to the controls.

An example of this would be, an experimental drug was being tested to see how well it works for sleeping. Only half of the subjects would have received the drug and the other half receive a placebo. This would be how the researcher utilizes the control to assist on the research of the study.

In comparison, an non-experimental research study is “when a researcher can not control, manipulate, or alter the predictor variable or subjects but instead relies on interpretations, observations, or interactions to come to a conclusion” (Kowalczyk, n.d.). This research design focuses on variables that occur naturally in the environment instead of trying to control the study with the use of manipulation of the variables involved. An example of a non-experimental study would be when the researcher used both men and women and studied which sex sleeps more at night. With this experiment, the researcher is unable to manipulate the predictor variable, which in this care is the gender.

Submit an evidence-based practice paper about cultural competency in mental health nursing. An evidence-based practice paper allows you to explore best practice and help improve client outcomes on a psychiatric unit. Your paper should describe how you, as a nurse, will include – or have included – cultural awareness in a client diagnosed with a mental illness. The person you describe could be someone in your clinical setting, someone you have worked with in the past, or a theoretical client.

Remember that culture can also include gender equality, sexual orientation, and other cultures besides race and religion – including cultures unique to one particular family.   • Assessment: Discuss what you would assess in regard to a client’s culture. For example, are there specific dietary requirements? Are schedule changes necessary to avoid conflicts with religious practices? Who is the spokesperson for the family? What would you assess?

Your hospital recently opened a new Health and Wellness Center for patients and their families as well as members of the community. You’ve been asked to take the leadership role in planning and executing a Community Health Fair in November to be held in the new Center. The goal for this health fair is to raise awareness of health issues with a focus on diabetes and involve hospital physicians, nurses, hospital dieticians, and members of the local healthcare community associations like the American Heart Association. Lastly, your CEO mentions the importance of attendance at the community health fair because they’ve invited local and state dignitaries to attend the event to be scheduled on a Saturday.

The hospital marketing director volunteered to work with you to develop marketing materials and public service announcements; however, you need a team of volunteers to accomplish this event. Before you’ve even gathered your team, an announcement about the upcoming community health fair to be held in the new Health and Wellness Center was published in the hospital newsletter highlighting you as the event leader.
