Nursing Process

Module 04 Written Assignment Nursing Process – Case Study

Please read the following case study and complete the questions below.

Daniel is a 16 year old boy who is an identical twin. He and his brother Jeff are very close and do most things together. While Daniel excels at sports he believe his brother is much better at most everything. Daniel, his brother, and their two sisters live with their parents in the Midwest. Recently Daniel has been feeling more tired than usual. He thought it was because of his schedule and school work, which he is fairly good at. He gets mostly Bs, but his grades have been slipping of late. One day he fainted while getting ready for a game. His coach called his parents to let them know Daniel was taken to the Emergency Room. While there the doctor decided to admit Daniel to the hospital for observation. At the time he was running a slight fever, his breathing was shallow, and he was sweating. He was also very sleepy and his blood pressure was high. He did have some abnormal laboratory work, but his doctor was not too concerned at present. Daniel also stated that he felt achy.

You are assigned to take care of Daniel today and when you walk into his room, his mother and brother Jeff are there. Daniel appears to be sleeping. In your written assignment, respond to the following questions applying the nursing process:

Assessment: What type of objective and subjective data can you collect with what you know? How will you collect these data? What further evidence do you need?

Analysis and Identification of the Problem: What do you believe Daniel’s problem(s) are? What might be the nursing diagnoses? Use the following for identification.

Planning: Identify two goals and one nursing intervention for each, based on your nursing diagnoses.

While you will not be able to implement or evaluate, how well do you think your nursing interventions might help with Daniel’s care.

Select one article that is a report of qualitative nursing research and one article that is a report of quantitative nursing research.

Being able to identify proper research literature is primary to developing your end of program capstone project.

Tasks:

Access Argosy’s electronic library databases and conduct a search for nursing research literature that is relevant to your anticipated capstone focus. Develop an annotated bibliography of this literature and identify two research articles, one qualitative and one quantitative, that are specific to your capstone focus.

  1. The annotated bibliography should consist of no fewer than 10 research articles and should broadly represent the literature available that is related to your capstone focus.
  2. Select one article that is a report of qualitative nursing research and one article that is a report of quantitative nursing research.
  3. Analyze and state the differences between the two chosen articles using the listed components on the Research Article Analysis form provided (i.e., problem statement, purpose, research objectives).
  4. Your final product should include the annotated bibliography, a completed Research Article Analysis Form, and a narrative (1–2 pages) in which you differentiate between the two types of research and explain the importance of both types in evidence-based nursing practice.

Note: For the annotative bibliography, the 10 articles need to be listed in alphabetical order and all key ideas need to be summarized and evaluated. Articles used for the Research Article Analysis Form should be clearly identified using APA format and including the database source.

Concept Synthesis Paper on Personal Nursing Philosophy

Concept Synthesis Paper on Personal Nursing Philosophy

You are required to submit a scholarly paper in which you will identify, describe, research, and apply the concepts that underlie your personal philosophy for professional nursing practice.

This will help you identify your own values and beliefs about the established metaparadigms and metatheories of the discipline. It will also help you identify and articulate concepts relevant to your specific practice. This paper is intended to be an exercise in clarification and organization of your professional foundation. You are also required to provide a list of assumptions from personal nursing practice that illustrate the concepts and framework of your theory.

Your paper should follow a format that includes:

  • Nursing Autobiography: A brief (1 page) discussion of your background in nursing.
  • The Four Metaparadigms: Identification, discussion, and documentation from the literature of your perspective on the basic four metaparadigms/concepts of patient, nurse, health, and environment.
  • Two Practice-Specific Concepts: Identification, discussion, and documentation from the literature of your perspective on at least two other concepts specific to your own practice.
  • List of Propositions: A numbered list of at least five propositions or assumption statements that clearly connect the concepts described.

Each week, you will complete various segments of your Concept Synthesis Paper and submit it to the Submissions Area for facilitator feedback when necessary. Your paper should integrate these discrete elements and reflect your personal nursing philosophy.

Your Concept Synthesis Paper on your Personal Nursing Philosophy is due in Week 3. However, it is recommended that you begin working on your paper from Week 1 onwards and complete the various components related to the paper week wise as you progress through the course. The suggested tasks for each week are:

Week 1: Nursing Biography and The Four Metaparadigms of Nursing
Week 2: Two Practice-specific Concepts, and List of Propositions/Assumptions
Week 3: Due: Concept Synthesis Paper on Personal Nursing Philosophy

Consider the following questions as you complete your various tasks related to this assignment.

1.How do I define and employ the four basic metaparadigms of nursing theory in my professional practice?
2.What are the major concepts I employ that are unique to my professional practice?
3.What philosophies and theories from the literature of nursing and other disciplines/domains are consistent with these concepts?
4.How are the concepts of transcultural nursing, the health promotion model, skill acquisition, role theory, and change theory specifically integrated into my philosophy and practice?
5.What research supports these theories and concepts?
6.How do I integrate role and change theory into my professional practice and how may these theories be applied to the organization in which I practice?

The paper is to be thoroughly researched and well documented, with relevant material from the nursing theorists presented incorporated into the paper. Use the current edition of the APA Manual throughout the paper. Sources should focus on references from nursing theory but may also include conceptual and theoretical material from other professional domains. The paper, excluding references or appendices, is to be limited to 4-6 pages. Writing should be succinct and well organized, as it is impossible for the facilitator to evaluate form and content separately.

Tutor description

Holistic health care is the concept of treating not only the physical symptoms of disease, but the patient’s emotional and spiritual needs as well. A nurse who practices holistic health care must address a patient’s medical needs while attending to their concerns and emotional well-being. The concept of body, mind and spirit as a cohesive unit has been lost in conventional medicine.

Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklists

Details:

To begin, work through the reference list that was created in the Problem Description Assignment in Topic 2. Appraise each resource using the “Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklists” available in the textbook appendix. The specific checklist you use will be determined by the type of evidence within the resource.

Develop a research table to organize and summarize the research studies. Using a summary table allows you to be more concise in your narrative description. Only research studies used to support your intervention are summarized in this table. Refer to the “Evaluation Table Template” available in the textbook appendix or use the “Evaluation Table Template” resource as an adaptable template.

Write a narrative of 750-1,000 words (not including the title page and references) that presents the research support for the project’s problem and proposed solution. Make sure to include:

  1. Description of the search method (i.e., databases, keywords, criteria for inclusion and exclusion, and number of studies that fit your criteria).
  2. Summarization of all of the research studies used as evidence. The essential components of each study need to be described so that readers can evaluate its scientific merit, including study strengths and limitations.
  3. Description of the validity of the internal and external research.

It is essential to make sure that the research support for the proposed solution is sufficient, compelling, relevant and from peer-reviewed professional journal articles.

Although you will not be submitting the checklist information or the evaluation table you design in Topic 3 with the narrative, the checklist information and evaluation table should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required for the individual sections, but is required for the final paper.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Please refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

What are your goals regarding this profession? Describe the plans you have made towards this goal in the past year.

When writing in this class, I ask that you use headings within your writings that correspond with the rubric that I am grading from. For example, if the Weekly Discussion has four sections to respond to, then please use these four headings in your post and put your responses under each heading.  Or if your paper has six rubric sections to answer about, then have six headings in your paper and put the information below these headings.

I have found that it makes it easier for the both of us and it improves my student’s grades exponentially.  Also, less is missed because you can see if you have completed each and every section of the rubric and I will know where to find your answers that correspond.

Identify at least one alternate health profession, such as PA-C, and a related professional organization, such as the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that answers the following:

  •           What is your interest in this profession?
  •            What are your goals regarding this profession? Describe the plans you have made towards this goal in the past year.
  •         What is the growth trend for this profession, especially as there is a continuing shortage of medical professionals in the U.S.?

In addition, your presentation should address the following:

  •           What was Florence Nightingale’s role in establishing nursing as a formal occupation?
  •          Compare and contrast the types of nursing programs described in Cockerham (2007) to the available nursing programs listed on the All Nursing Schools Web site.
