Which cultural syndromes, discussed in the reading “Culture and Conflict,” apply to these cultures?

Your task is to provide a 3 page critical analysis for the film “In the Heat of the Night.” Since this movie revolves around interactions between folks from different cultures, the key for this assignment is to employ an intercultural frame of reference within which to base your analysis. As you write, consider the following:

What are the cultures and subcultures included in this movie?

Which cultural syndromes, discussed in the reading “Culture and Conflict,” apply to these cultures?

What are the intercultural conflicts presented in this film?

One of the “Characteristics of Culture” as defined in the article “Understanding Intercultural Communication” from the course reading states that culture is based on symbols. What cultural symbols did you see displayed in this film? What did these symbols represent?

Discussion: Characteristics of an Organization

Discussion: Characteristics of an Organization

Large…small…

Urban…rural…

For profit…non–profit…

Acute care…primary care

Teaching organization…research facility

Myriad characteristics influence the experiences of patients, nurses, and others in any health care setting. In addition to the factors noted above, the mission, vision, and values that guide an organization, as well as an institution’s commitments to patient care, teaching, and/or research, warrant significant consideration.

As a nurse leader–manager, it is helpful to look at all of these aspects, especially as they relate to strategic planning and the sustainability of the organization. To that end, for this Discussion you compare multiple aspects of two organizations and consider the implications for nursing. In addition, you will apply a Strategic Planning tool, such as SWOT or Balanced Scorecard, or Six Sigma principles to establish one realistic goal or objective consistent with the mission of the organization.

To Prepare

  • Review the information in the Learning Resources regarding strategic planning; types of organizations; organizational commitments to patient care, teaching, and/or research; and the mission, vision, and values of organizations.
  • Using the Internet, research various health care organizations (including those with which you are already familiar) that differ in focus, commitment, and mission, vision, and values. For the purposes of this Discussion, select two organizations with significant differences.
  • Compare information about the two organizations. Based on the information presented in the Learning Resources, how do they differ?
  • What are some possible implications of these differences for various stakeholders (e.g., nursing administration, patients, and community)? What does this mean for nursing’s role within each organization?
  • Identify a goal or objective based on a strategic planning tool, such as SWOT or Balanced Scorecard, or Six Sigma consistent with the mission of the organization.

BY DAY 3

Post and Contrast two differing health care organization’s mission, vision, and values, and describe at least two potential implications of these distinctions for stakeholders of each organization. Explain how this informs the focus for nursing, noting the role that nursing administration plays in supporting and fulfilling the mission, vision, and values, and organizational strategies. Write a goal or objective, based on a strategic planning tool, such as SWOT, Balanced Scorecard, or Six Sigma consistent with the mission of one of the organizations.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

BY DAY 6

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

  • Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information and evidence.
  • Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.
  • Validate an idea with your own experience and additional sources.
  • Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings or after synthesizing multiple postings

scope of practice

Please write a Paragraph answering to this discussion below with your opinion. Please include citations and references in case of another source.

There are many factors that determine what skills fall into a nursing scope of practice. From my research in our textbooks and readings as well as my own experience I have pinpointed some aspects that shape what we call our “scope of practice” as nurses. State boards of nursing determine what we can legally do as nurses, they set standards of what should be included in nursing practice. The state boards then collaborate with nursing schools to make sure there are standards of nursing skills and education that will shape nurses to deliver safe care to the public. State boards throughout the nation ensure the state regulations that are set for nursing scope of practice are appropriate. Laws are also created and discussed each year that will affect nursing practice and this is constantly changing, due to the evolving world of nursing. (Grand Canyon University ,2011)

Another factor that determines scope of practice for nursing is the degree of an individual nurse and educational preparation. A bachelor’s educated nurse’s scope of practice is much broader than an LVN. There are many more skills and assessments that these nurses are legally allowed to provide for their patients. (Creasia and Friberg ,2016)

Also, a nurse can earn a certification or work on a specialty unit. For example, nurses who work on a cardiac/telemetry unit have a scope of practice that include initiating and maintaining cardiac drips. Most medical surgical nurses are not qualified or trained to do this. Even ICU nurses are licensed to initiate certain drips and practice certain skills that other nurses have not had the training for. The environment of where you work as a nurse also determines your nursing scope of practice. For example, each hospital has its own policies and procedures that determine how their nurses practice. (Creasia and Friberg ,2016) Having a scope of practice ensures that nurses are only providing care for which they are qualified to provide, this ultimately improves patient’s safety and outcome.

Nursing used to be mainly a man profession and associated more with military and religious backgrounds

Please do a paragraph about this post with this instruction .

post most have  4 or more  sentences .

you also have to have a high quality post from a content perspective. This means it also needs to do more than agree with or praise a class mate. If you agree with a classmate, explain why, give an example, share what you learned in the readings, ask questions of each other, etc.

Understanding the foundations and history of nursing is very important as a nurse. It shows how far nursing as a whole has come. There were so many struggles and advancements made in the profession over the years. Nursing history shows how much it has grown to be respected and needed.

A huge trend that has changed nursing throughout the years is the technology. Today we have so many advancement in nursing I can not even begin to imagine not having the equipment and medication that is available to us now in patient care. The ability to prevent and cure through technology advancements makes nursing today a valuable asset.

Nursing used to be mainly a man profession and associated more with military and religious backgrounds. The trend has changed through history with the wars needing more nurses. The war opened the doors for woman to have a profession that eventually became respected. It takes a special person to be a nurse with a caring heart and great critical thinking skills. (Grand Canyon University | Digital Resource, 2016). For the door to be opened for woman to stand along aside men and have a respected profession that shows our intelligence and caring attitudes is a major advancement.

The uniform is another trend throughout nursing that has changed but still important for nurses today. The nurse’s cap used to be a stable in nursing uniform. Today nurses do not wear the caps while working but still for our pinning ceremony. (Grand Canyon University |Digital Resource, 2016). I think that shows respect for the nurses before us that paved the way and made nursing such a critical and needed profession in today’s world. Today nurses wearing scrubs, lab coat, and our stethoscope when needed is a symbol in itself and symbolizes us as a nurse. When I see scrubs I immediately think about nurses and all that we do while wearing them.

The timeline was so interesting to read and I learned so much. I knew about Florence Nightingale but did not fully realize how much she paved the way for us and how much nursing has evolved.
