Short response Question

Short response Question

With large, diverse conglomerates, such as Siemens or GE, the complexity of the organization can make it difficult to identify unintended consequences of strategic-level initiatives. It is therefore important to make sure such initiatives are viewed from a variety of perspectives. What may look good from the perspective of the home office, may be completely impractical to the regional or local business unit.

Part 1: How would you characterize the strategy for competing internationally that Siemens was was pursuing prior to the arrival of Peter Löscher? What were the benefits fo this strategy? What were the costs? Why was Siemens pursuing this strategy?

Part 2: What strategy was Peter Löscher trying to get Siemens to pursue with his streamlined “power and accountability” initiative? What are the benefits fo this strategy? Can you see any drawbacks. How might it be superior to the previous strategy?

Muhammad Ali Writing paper

Muhammad Ali Writing paper

Your paper should be a four-to-five page typewritten (1250 words, double-spaced) analysis of the issue. A good paper will consider these questions and provide evidence from the various sources and/or your textbook to support your answer. The essay is due Monday, April 22nd. You will be penalized ten points for every calendar day that your paper is late. Note that without the paper, you will not have completed all of the requirements for the course, and will therefore be ineligible for a passing grade. Please be sure to keep a draft or copy of your paper until it is graded and returned.

While grading is primarily based upon your understanding and critical analysis of the sources, form will also be taken into account. In addition to typographical errors, check carefully for spelling and grammatical mistakes. Pages must be numbered. With regard to formatting, use standard one inch margins and a 12 point font. Times New Roman is the preferred typeface. And remember to cite direct quotations. As a rule they can be valuable in underscoring a point, but avoid lengthy and excessive quotations: they are boring. As for form, you can cite your work with either MLA or Chicago styles, as long as you are consistent. Finally, do not plagiarize. No credit will be given for dishonest work.

The advantages of calculating Contribution Margins of a company’s products seem to be overwhelming according to the author. One can quickly calculate their break-even point and evaluate pricing changes and product quality improvements. But after reviewing several annual reports, apparently no one is using this technique. What’s missing in this analysis?

Quality management has been a principle concern since the beginning of time. In the beginning, “God saw all He had made, and it was very good,” which indicates that God valued quality (Genesis 1:31, NIV). Therefore, humans being made in the image of God, and as Christians who are being transformed into His image with ever increasing glory, should strive to be like the Lord and be concerned with making things or providing service that is good (Genesis 1:27; 2 Corinthians 3:18). Van Duzer (2010) points out that humans are engaged in work that matters to God when they produce material things that enhance the welfare of the community, and the author adds those things that enhance the welfare of the community are good. Lean is a quality management continuous process improvement that attempts to carry out this concept by removing waste and concentrating on value-added processes that continually improves all aspects of the organization and improves quality (Sisson & Elshennawy, 2015).

Quality management is also about stewardship. Just as God created humans and worked for them as provider, God has commissioned humans to carry on His work in His command in Genesis 1:28 to fill the earth and subdue it (Keller, 2012). As quality managers, humans are trustees of God’s creation called to steward His creation on His behalf for His purposes and abide in His constraints (Van Duzer, 2010). Keller (2012) says the word subdue indicates a degree of incomplete development, although Creation was good. Van Duzer (2010) also suggests that though the Garden was perfect, it was not static, and it was a starting point anticipated by God to enable and work with human beings to cause the created order to flourish. The Garden was God’s design of creating meaningful work that humans were called to undertake, engaging their creativity, reflecting diversity, and growing out of and giving back to the community, which is God’s quality management leading to productivity.

Productivity

Multiplying, being fruitful, and filling the earth are the productivity part of God’s initial commands to humanity (Genesis 1:28). God’s concern with productivity did not end at the Garden though, for Jesus told the Jewish leaders that His Father was still working to this day, and He is working also, when He was confronted about telling a man to pick up his mat and walk after healing him on the Sabbath (John 5:1-17; Keller, 2012). All continuous process improvement methods, from Toyota Production System, to Total Quality Management, to Lean, to Six Sigma, are all intended to improve productivity, whether in reduction of waste or improved customer satisfaction. Starbird and Cavanagh (2011) remind their readers that productivity is the outcome of a well-designed and well-run process, but should never be the goal. Quality management and productivity are man’s attempts to share in God’s shalom-restoring work ever since the Fall, which highlights the idea of common grace by Keller (2012) because many involved in this process are not Christ followers, but are imbedded with the common grace of God, being made in His image, with God-given talents and skills (Van Duzer, 2010).

These God-given talents and skills are the source of creativity and innovation, a necessary focus for organizations to survive the modern era (Rasheed, Lodhi, & Habiba, 2016). Continuous process improvements such as Toyota Production System challenge every employee to continuously look for opportunities to increase value and eliminate waste, which may explain its success, because the intrinsic motivation fulfills motivation to seek challenges or gain knowledge, which is a primary and powerful element influencing employee creativity (Plenert, 2012; Yang, Lee, & Cheng, 2017). Creativity of frontline employees enhances new service development performance, which is productive, by applying their knowledge of service procedures and customer needs, which also achieves innovation (Yang, Lee, & Cheng, 2015). This example of frontline staff contribution to innovation and creativity validates Keller’s (2012) point that all work is an act of creating that comes from the same source; therefore, all work is dignified and productive.

Instructions

Course Project—Analyzing Behavioral Risk Factors

This week you will add to the work you have done in Weeks 1 and 2 on your final project. You will combine the work from the previous weeks with this part and submit it for grading.

Phase 3 of the PRECEDE-PROCEED model is the education and ecological assessment. After the key risk factors have been identified, they are classified into three categories: Predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors. Approaches to these factors may vary depending on the setting, so it is important to take both the factors and the setting into account in the program planning process.

In Week 1, you selected and analyzed a health issue, explaining the populations or groups most affected by it. In Week 2, you examined the behavioral and environmental risk factors related to your selected health issue. This week, based on your analysis in Week 2, select one or two behavioral risk factors as the focus for the final project.

Week 3 Tasks:

Using the readings for the week, the South University Online Library, and the Internet, research risk factors. Write a 4–6-page educational assessment paper.

Complete the following:

Identify one or two behavioral risk factors related to your selected health issue. Justify your choices using scholarly references.

Identify the predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors for each selected behavioral risk factor.

Describe at least two examples of each factor as they relate to the behavior.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of two different settings that can be used to address the health behavior in the targeted population.

Support your statements with scholarly references and appropriate examples.

Collate your work on Phase 1 (Week 1) and Phase 2 (Week 2) together with Phase 3 and submit the paper.

Submnission Details:

Submit your assignment in Microsoft Word format to the Submissions Area by the due date assigned.

Name your document SU_PHE6210_W3_Project_LastName_FirstInitial.doc.
