Thank you for your interest in my past two rotations working at Pen Inc. I have been working in the Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting departments and have completed my rotations. In this memo I will discuss: 1) working with FI and CO, 2) financial accounting integration, and 3) the importance of managerial accounting.

FI and CO

I entered data into many different areas of the financial accounting module in SAP. I created general ledgers and added them to the Chart of Accounts. I entered integrated journal entries into the system for use throughout the company. I reviewed the income statements, balance sheets, and paid a rent expense bill that was received while I was working in the department. In my managerial accounting rotation, I worked with budget management. A portion of budget management was the allocation of line items to primary and secondary cost elements. I assigned specific costs to the correct departments with Pen Inc. Finally, I created statistical key figures, activity types, and distribution cycles.

Financial Accounting Integration

Working in the financial accounting department, I realized how financial information is integrated with many departments to support the company. This integration is because many departments use financial information in their day-to-day processes. A few of the departments are managerial accounting, sales and distribution, material management, and production planning and execution. These departments need to run reports so they can check on things and know if everything is ok or not. This real-time data enables other departments to complete their processes.

Importance of Managerial Accounting

I learned the value of managerial accounting. I can apply this knowledge to any department when it comes to managing a budget and cost allocation. My takeaway is the realization of how much each department depends on managerial accounting for their accurate budget. I realize how each department must equally divide their cost so that they are only accountable to the exact amount they used. It lets them see how much they have to spend and if they have money remaining to spend. It is also vital for them to validate funds are transferred correctly after allocations.

Applying Knowledge

I have learned a lot from my experience working as a trainee at Pen Inc. I entered data into SAP, learned about financial accounting integration, and the importance of managerial accounting. I am excited to continue learning as I advance into other rotations here at Pen Inc.

Healthcare systems provide the technology and application level resource to facilitate day to day operations. Healthcare organizations are faced with many challenges to compete with other healthcare organizations. Technology is an important component in competing with other healthcare organizations. EMR systems are complexed and expensive; the implementation of an EMR system is also complexed. This SMAC will provide a guide to implementing an EMR system to an existing health system using project management tools.

Topic(s) from Functional Knowledge Area Related to the Issue/Problem/Task

The topics that I wish to discuss are data analysis, qualitative and quantitative data, correlation, regression analysis, sampling, project analysis.

Anticipated Managerial Abilities to be Developed

Conflict Management: the ability to deal with conflict so that the situation remains in control. This ability comes to play when delegating assignments/tasks to others. I plan to develop this managerial ability by understanding the different roles of the individuals involved during this project implementation.

Self-Control: The ability to control self, emotions, and behaviors. This is important in project management because the implementation of the project can be difficult and challenging- Self Control is needed in those difficult situations. I plan to develop this managerial ability by remaining organized and focused on the task at hand.

Thesis statement: Medical fraud has become a serious issue in today’s health sector because of the health hazards it can directly create, increasing the mistrust of qualified doctors, and the economic stress it creates on communities as a whole despite being a method that healthcare providers utilize for generating income.

Medical fraud: a term that is used to depict fraudulent acts undertaken by medical professionals, healthcare facilities, and insurance providers that are aimed at providing falsified information regarding diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Healthcare provider: any hospital or medical center that provides any variety of healthcare services and/or treatment for patients.

Insurance claim: providing evidence that medical treatment/diagnosis was performed at a healthcare provider to an insurance company to reimburse any party (facility or patient) for a specified amount.

Argument 1: Medical fraud could pave the way for more serious health hazards associated with misdiagnosis and/or improper treatment methods.

Patients could take medicines that are not suitable for them or might react negatively to improper treatment and cause them more illness (Li et al., 2018).

Argument 3: Medical fraud and the costs associated with it could create a series of economic issues that could have adverse effects.

More money and resources will be spent on fraudulent claims and this in turn could expend budgets of both the public and the government (Offen, 1999).

In 2011, 60 billions US dollars was spent of fraudulent healthcare (Leap, 2011)

Counterargument 1: Doctors often do this as a mean to generate extra income and keep their facilities open.

Rebuttal: Despite its apparent benefit, it is neither ethical nor part of their integrity and medical oath.

Medical fraud is a crime that is punishable by laws across many countries and a cause of concern and public awareness (Parry, 2017).

Counterargument 2: Many doctors and facilities commit fraud unintentionally.

Rebuttal: As an essential part of providing essential services, doctors and providers should be more aware and attentive.

Healthcare providers and doctors should be always subject to quality audits and monitoring measures that verify their qualifications, performance, and the expenses incurred by them (Krisberg, 2017).
