For many years, the nursing career has always been considered a gender-typed career. The profession was performed only by women because of their characteristic compassion and caring for others. Since men started to take interest in the career of nursing, they have faced a variety of challenges, stressors and barriers. Male nurses face more difficulties and challenges than female nurses due to gender stereotypes and the perception that nursing is a nurturing profession for women.

1- “Men do not care”

· Women are compassionate and care givers, those characteristics identify them; while men on the other side, are known for their rough treatment.

2- Male nurses do not have a role model most of the time.

· Some barriers start while in nursing school programs. With the male nursing faculty being less than the general population of males in nursing, men do not feel the same connection with instructors and clinical rotation managers as female do.

3- Male nurses experience more role strain than female nurses when it comes to touching patients of the opposite sex and even the same one.

· Male nurses reported to be hesitant to touch female patients, fearing of being accused of inappropriately touching them; and when touching men, they fear of giving the impression of being gay.

Conclusions:

In conclusion, the nursing career has been chosen by women for a long time, despite this, men interests in the field have increased over the years. With this, people would imagine that the barriers keeping men from entering a nursing program would disappear, but they still exist. The gender stereotyping in the nursing career must be stopped; men have proven to be good care takers, as much as women.

Part 1 (25 points): Using PSPICE, simulate a CMOS inverter

(a) Using a DC sweep on the input, produce the voltage transfer curve of the circuit

(b) Modify the ‘length’ parameter in the model for the MbreakP component so that you get a symmetrical switching curve. An example of modifying the transistor model is shown in the PSPICE tutorial on MOSFETs uploaded to e-campus. Determine the noise margins of the inverter. Hint: export the data points from the DC sweep as a .TXT or .CSV file and use Excel or MATLAB to determine the noise margins.

Part 2 (75 points): Using PSPICE, simulate a CMOS logic circuit that produces the complement of function AB+C .

(a) Optimize the MbreakN and MbreakP models to provide a symmetric switching curve. After optimization, provide the voltage levels for high and low inputs and outputs in a truth table. Assume a high input is VDD and a low input is 0. Hint: Modify the ‘length’ parameter in the model file for the MbreakN component so that a logic ‘0’ output is as low as possible (10s of mV).

(b) Using a DC sweep on one of the logic inputs, produce the voltage transfer curve of the circuit when switching from input high to input low. Determine the noise margins of the circuit.

Bonus (+15 points): Modify the circuit from Part 2 to be a clocked CMOS circuit that produces the same logic function.

(a) In truth tables, provide the voltage levels for high and low inputs and outputs when i) clock is set to logic ‘1’ and ii) clock is set to logic ‘0’. For both cases (i) and (ii), chose MbreakN and MbreakP model parameters that give the best possible voltage values for logic inputs ‘1’ and ‘0’.

What to turn in for this assignment:

  1. Circuit diagrams for all sections with your name in the schematic diagram title field
  2. Truth tables for Part 2(a) (and the Bonus if completed)
  3. PSPICE output plots for the voltage transfer characteristics for all sections
  4. A table of the noise margins determined for Part 1(b) and Part 2(b)

Items 1-4 above should be provided in report format, with figures and tables inserted into a MSWord document. All figures and tables should be accompanied by a figure caption and explanatory text describing the result(s) shown. For each section, your MbreakN and MbreakP model parameters must be clearly identified. For Part 1, discuss the voltage transfer characteristics of your inverter before and after optimization. Based on the noise margins calculated for Parts 1 & 2, comment on whether the output of your circuit could be used as an input for another identical circuit.

Include a cover page for the final version of your project report. I will accept electronic (email) or physical submissions. Color prints are not required unless it makes your plots easier to interpret. If choosing to print the assignment, you may want to invert the colors on the PSPICE outputs to conserve ink/toner.

Computer databases are an effective tool manage, organize and catalog inputs. Computers databases reduce required workspace and allows the user to retrieve data once certain fields in the filters meet the specified parameters. This is very effective to “data mine”. One can search through a series of parameters that are met to find what data they needed to retrieve (Oatley et al, 2006). Database that are linked by an information network can essentially allow the user to “data mine” over multiple databases to broaden or narrow their results. Also, information networks linked to different databases such as financial institutions can find links between persons that may not have been known otherwise such as with organized crime (Oatley et al, 2006).

As we improve filters on databases, we can reset values on those databases to improve them. One such method for use is in the field of identity. There is a database for those who willingly hand over their identification card or drivers license to an officer. That individual who may not be currently carrying that on them can also give the officer his or her date of birth, their social security number and their name and be found in this database. Xu et al, sees that this database can be improved as have other researchers (2007). Others have theorized with some success that for those who provide fake names, date of births and social security numbers cannot successfully develop an original fake identity and that the provided fake information is relatively close enough to identify a suspect (Xu et al, 2007). Xu et al, expands on this by adding additional algorithms to pick up an identity based on the social statuses or identities that the individual maintains unwittingly (2007). This concept will enable officers to find networks of criminals (Xu et al, 2007).

Crime mapping and geospatial technology can be a tremendous tool in the intelligence led policing (ILP) model. Commonly called geographic information systems (GIS) can function as a key source to “hot spot” policing. The useful ness of the GIS is dependent on the functionality of the filters that the user can apply combined with the data that the analysist places into the system. The less user friendly the filters are, the less likely that it will be an effective tool that the department’s officers would like to use. The more user friendly the interface the more likely they will incorporate it into their duties. This concept also applies to the filters.

If using the ILP method of policing to find “hot spots” for a certain type of crime the GIS cannot filter for to demonstrate what the targeted crime is then again, the tool is ineffective. Departments have had some successes with GIS and have at times tried to improve officers’ interactions with the citizens in their communities through use of more mobile computer systems (Taniguchi & Gill, 2018). Some officers may not realize that although the system is in place for them to input data as they collect it, it does not always translate to actionable intelligence (Taniguchi & Gill, 2018).

Therefore, it is imperative for departments who want to use the ILP method to maintain an analyst or analysts in their department to analyze the data and provide that intelligence. What I think is a most effective use of the GIS is with the correct data entered, it does not just help police to combat targeted crimes in hotspots; it is can also be used to forecast or predict potential “hot spots” so that they can be proactive in their defense of their citizens (Fitterer et al, 2015).
