A. Human beings have different listening behaviors. Their listening behaviors are contributed by different factors.

II. Identifying Problem Behaviors (My part)

B. Types of listeners:

1.Fraudulent listeners- They are considered as pseudo-listeners 2.Monopolistic listeners- They have the habit of dominating conversations 3. Completers- Always assume they know what the speaker is talking about 4.Selective listeners- They listen to what appears relevant to them.

Conclusion: Research suggests that men are fraudulent listeners. Men interrupt women more than women interrupt men.

Annotated Bibliographies And Literature Review

Annotated Bibliographies And Literature Review

Purpose: To develop research methodology and support the information and claims used in the development of the speech presentation. An annotated bibliography is a list of citations of work consulted, such as books, articles, and documents during the research phase. Each citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150 – 200 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. Annotated bibliographies for CMST 101 lists the author, title, publisher, and a summary of the source using the Modern Language Association (MLA) style of citation. After listing the source —

provide a summary of the source and explain why it is credible and appropriate to support your topic and speech presentation. Include the following information for the annotated bibliography:

— (Who) Identify and discuss who wrote it, why is that person (or group) an authority?

— (What) Summarize the content of source. Explain how the source you selected supports the speech topic and why it was selected.

— (Why) Explain why the source was selected for your particular speech topic and explain why you think it is a good addition to your research.

Research Paper

Research Paper

Research Paper You will be conducting library research to support and develop a thesis on the topic you choose. This project is to be informative in nature. For this reason, you should approach the assignment by brainstorming information questions. Think of yourself as a teacher/expert, having to share information and knowledge with your audience. You are not to reveal your opinions in this project. You are not to use first person in this project. Format: You will use APA guidelines for your paper and will include a cover sheet, body of your paper, in-text citations, and attach your TREC outline to the paper. Length: 6 to 8 pages for the body of your paper. Use 1” margins on all sides. Double space everything. Make a Running head: ABBREVIATED TITLE on the cover sheet. Add the assigned running head/abbreviated title to page 2 and all following pages. Page numbers will begin with the cover sheet as page 1 and continue through the paper and outline attached at the end. Indent each new paragraph 0.5 inches. Put 2 spaces after each period/punctuation. APA documentation will be discussed in class. Do not write in first person and do not use contractions in your Research Paper Researching and writing your paper: 1- Formulate a research question, and provide facts that clearly support your thesis /research topic. For example, for research questions, you might ask, “What are schools doing to curb bullying? What programs have they initiated? How are students involved?” Questions such as these help you to search for answers and to narrow your topic. From researching, reading, and careful note-taking, you should have learned quite a bit about your topic, especially if you are moving forward with the topic from your exploratory essay. 2- For finding a topic and a focus, you can search newspapers and magazines (paper or online). Think about issues related to the environment, to ethics in modern life, to education, etc. Getting the “big picture” can help you to focus on an in-depth idea for a specific research topic. Expect to do considerable reading on a topic before you find a specific avenue for academic research. 3- Your paper must include an abstract which immediately follows the cover page. Pay special attention to APA formatting for abstracts (ie: no indentation in first line, etc). Your paper should have a clear thesis which you’ll support with reasons and evidence. The introduction should set up the scope and importance of the research to follow. Another function of the introduction is to gain the interest of your readers. The body of your paper will provide the bulk of your evidence and will relate this information to your thesis in a clear manner. Evidence of the highest quality is critical to your success with this assignment. Finally, write a sensitive conclusion that reflects the thesis and summarizes the main points of the essay. Note: The paper should have a clear introduction with thesis, multi-paragraphed body (Reasons and Examples), conclusion, reference page, and TREC or PREP outline. 2- Secondary Sources: You must gather information from 6-8 secondary sources. At least one of your sources must be a scholarly journal article. At least two of your sources must be from an RMU online database (On the hard copy of your paper, star the two sources that came from the RMU online database). Please stick to well-recognized journals, articles, newspapers, and books as your sources. This will be a 6-8 page essay (not including cover sheet, reference page, or outline). 5- Make a TREC or PREP Outline (type it double-spaced, indent Examples 0.5 inch) The title for the outline is to be centered on top line. TREC/PREP Outline: Title of Your Paper Thesis/Point: Thesis statement: Major point you are trying to make. Should be one or two sentences. Reasons: There should be several reasons in the body of your paper. Each Reason should begin a new paragraph and be followed in one or more paragraphs with several specific examples that illustrate/demonstrate/support your reasons. Conclusion/Point restated: The conclusion should sum up your findings. It reflects your thesis and summarizes the main points of the essay. 1-Please Answer Based On These Answers As They Are Listed, Each One Must Be Answered In APAform And Not Less Than 150 Words

1-The nursing shortage imapacts the healthcare system and as well as the community. Nurses are the faces of healthcare. they are the managers of care for patients. At the community level we would see it being harder for a patient to recieve care. Without the proper staffing of nurses the community may be forced with longer waiting times to actually be seen. This could also make the cost of care go up for the community. ON the nursing profession side, nurses are constantly faced with being out of ratio. I have never worked at a hospital were ratios were not an issue. It is a very difficult problem and it mainly comes from the nursing shortage. You see more nurses going out of ration which the hospital ends up paying for. You also see nurses who have to pick up extra shifts just to help out the company to ensure that a unit is properly staffed. I do feel like this will always be an issue. Simply because there are so many people in the world and not enough nurses. I see more hospitals starting new graduate programs. This is a great way to help the nursing shortage. When you graduate from nursing school it can be hard to find your first job in an acute care setting. Many places want experience. So they pass up on these new nurses who are ready to work simply because the are not experienced. But a better solution would be to train them , which many facilities have caught on to. Training the nurses and having them sign a contract for 2 years for the cost of training them has help many facilities with their nursing shortage.

Concern over nursing shortage grows. (2018). ACCN Bold Voices. Volume 10, Issue 8: 17-17

2-What is the impact to the nursing profession and to the public related to the projected nursing shortage? Discuss at least one way that the nursing profession is working toward a resolution of this problem.

The nursing profession shortage affects the community drastically. There are many nurses that with each year retire and facilities end up with a nursing shortage. Just like there are many colleges and schools that have nursing graduates, there will always be a need for nurses. “In the United States, the largest group of nurses is expected to retire by the year 2020, pushing health care facilities’ resources beyond their limits.” (Springer Publishing Company, 2015)Nursing shortages not only affect the nurses by overwhelming the nurses but can affect patients completely. A nurse that has been running around like chicken without a head and tending to more than 20 patients will not be able to perform all her nursing duties to the best of her ability. Patients safety is also at risk as nurses will be tired and might have medication or treatment errors due to the fatigue and tiredness. Also, it is important to remember that for specialty areas such as colonoscopy, endoscopy, ER, OR and neonate care many hospitals require experience, a new nurse unless properly trained for months will not be able to attain that position. Many nurses will also retire in these specialty areas and hospitals should implement a way to have a secure education and on-site training for a specific time to train new nurses for these specialties. “Just over a decade ago, in 2000, the estimated pool of registered nurses in the United States was 1.89 million, while the demand was two million—a deficit of only 110,000, or 6%. Yet the gap continues to widen. In 2008, there were approximately 2.6 million working RNs, but it is predicted that by 2020 the shortage will be approximately 808,400 nurses, or 29%.” (Springer Publishing Company, 2015)The nursing profession should consider all this and create a way in which the hospitals can work with the nurses to provide better training for these specialties. It is also imperative that nurses be appreciated, feel connected to their organization and the organization focuses on not only retaining the nurses but making them happy. “Nurses report higher job satisfaction if they perceive they are part of a team and feel a sense of belonging, though age is another variable in retention and job satisfaction.” (Springer Publishing Company, 2015)

3-By the year 2024, there are projected to be over one million nursing vacancies alone (Weiss et al 2014).

The nurses that are from the baby boomer generation will be exiting the workforce creating a huge amount of vacant positions. The AACN reports that every year the rate of vacant positions go up 2-3% each. The question then is what do when do to change this trajectory? The answers lie in partnering with schools of nursing to assist in graduating more competent nurses. There also appears to be a shortage of qualified nursing faculty to teach in the nursing schools. The AACN suggest perhaps the government and private sector subsidizing faculty salaries. One of the thing that many hospital are doing in a effort to minimize the problem, encourage continuing education. Hospital are encouraging nurses to advance their education and they give monetary compensation. In return, the nurse agree to work for a stated time after degree is complete. This serves as a win-win situation for the facility and the nurse.

Impact on nursing shortage, increased wait times, in every health care entity. Primary care, secondary care, tertiary care all will feel the impact. The other is quality of care will be compromised. Less nurses mean short cuts, shorts cuts equal errors. The abilty to deliver great patient care will be compromised. finacial aspect will be felt by all consumers, less supply/ more demand means increased price for healthcare.

150 WORDS AGREE OR DISAGREE

150 WORDS AGREE OR DISAGREE

Expirated Spatter: Often caused by internal injuries and seen at crime scenes where victims exhaled after blood mixed with oxygen in the lungs or wind pipe. The blood will either come from the nose or mouth. The stain on the scene could tell the investigator if the spatter came from the nose or mouth depending on the size and density of the stain. For instance, if the size of the stain is rather large and dense it most likely came from the mouth, while if the size of the stain is smaller and dense it most likely came from the nose. If the size of the stain were large and spread out or not dense then the spatter most likely came from the nose but from a greater distance than the victim being directly over the area that the stain is located.

Cast-Off: Generally in a linear or quasi-linear pattern with drops that have tails that point in the direction of the motion. The size of the drop can help an investigator determine the size of the object that caused the pattern. For instance, if a pattern has larger drops than another pattern it can be determined that the larger pattern is from an instrument like a glass bottle vs. the smaller pattern which was most likely caused by a knife being waved around.

Documentation is fairly simple but requires a great number of details. According to the National Forensic Science Technology Center (2013) prior to collected blood stain evidence, the stains must first be photographed and the method that is favorited is high resolution photography (National Forensic Science Technology Center, 2013, p. 10). The photographs will generally contain some form of measurement device to show the size of the stain unless the stain covers an entire wall in which case measurements will only be held in the documentation of the blood stain. The most concise way to photograph and document blood stains is to take an overall picture of the scene and then grid off different areas in a logical fashion followed by documentation of each blood stain depending on the grid location of the stain in order to maintain an organized note and scene. This allows for corresponding labels of the stain samples along side the grid labels following documentation.

  1. Skeletal remains

Some of the information on the excavated remains seems a bit misleading. Matching information from our reading however includes information about the skull including the brow ridge and the mastoid process as well as information about the clavicle and the epiphyseal union. According to Forensicmd (2010) males have the more prominent or pronounced brow ridge which is also called the supraorbital ridges (Forensicmd, 2010, p. 7). Forensicmd (2010) also states that there is not a specified year or age that the epiphyseal union occurs but a range can be determined such as with the medial end of the clavicle and it’s epiphyseal union which takes place between 18 and 30 years of age (Forensicmd, 2010, p. 17). So far we can determine that the remains that were found belong to a male that is between the age of 18-30 but the sex is only an 85% chance of being correct as it was determined with the skull and not with the pelvic bones which would provide a 90% accuracy instead. Race is a bit more tricky to determine considering the fact that we don’t have any long bones with which to determine height and assist in determining the race without a doubt but based on the brow ridge and it’s prominence we can determine that the remains most likely belong to a Caucasoid. The only information not accounted for based on the information provided is the mastoid process. The information provided in the lesson seems inaccurate in determine age, sex or race with the mastoid process. The provided information states that the male mandible has a larger body height than the female and that the male mandible also has a more broad ascending ramus but goes on to show a picture of a male and female mandible with the opposite being true.

2 sections Creating And Selling Your Campaign And Analyzing Your Campaign

2 sections Creating And Selling Your Campaign And Analyzing Your Campaign

Part I. Creating and Selling Your Campaign (25 points)

You will design and present an advertising campaign for an imaginary product. Be creative! You will present your campaign to the class via a post in our final discussion (depending on the format you choose, your post will include a video, several print ads, or a link to a website. Consider our final discussion a chance for a “sales pitch”; present the campaign as though you are advertising executives seeking to land a client. In your post, tell us what TV network and time slot, stretch of highway, viewing demographic, or magazine is the ideal place for your ad. Then post your ads.

You may choose ONE of the following ad formats. Whichever format you choose, make sure the ad(s) informs us about the product (what it is and does.)

Shoot two commercials. Make two video commercials for your product. Each commercial should be at least thirty seconds long.

Create a website. After researching the websites of several products similar to yours, design a website that both advertises your product and informs visitors about its attributes.

Design a series of print ads. Make three billboards or three print ads for a magazine.

This project is designed to make you think critically about what cultural products have to say about our culture(s). While inventing your product and planning your campaign, consider cultural mythologies you or your viewers may hold, either consciously or unconsciously. You may choose to incorporate and enhance one of these worldviews in order to zone in upon a certain audience.

Hint: The more manipulative your ad, the more you will have to analyze in your final essay. Your campaign does not have to be corrupt or manipulative, but this is an easy way to have an arguable thesis! (see below).

You will post the ads to our final discussion, on the next page.

Part II. Analyzing Your Campaign (75 points)

Along with your presentation, you will submit a four-to-five-page essay as the last essay assignment for the course. This essay will interpret the “signs” of your own ad, much in the same way you practiced in the first two essays for this course.

VERY IMPORTANT: When you write the essay, you are NO LONGER “SELLING” THE PRODUCT. Instead, you are critiquing an ad campaign (that you designed) like you did in Essay #1. Refer back to the “two rules” of semiotic analysis from our first two essays in order to arrive at a thesis: “Everything is Connected” and “Question Authority.” What social or political trends appear in the campaign, either overtly or subliminally? What subversive, manipulative, or even disturbing elements appear in the ad, elements to which you, the advertisers, would resist admitting? Or, simply, to which trends or beliefs is this campaign “connected”? You may also find the following questions helpful in supporting your thesis; you are not required to answer all of these!

Who is the intended audience?

What sort of characters/ images are used? Why were they chosen?

What segments of the public might be ignored or alienated by this ad? Why?

Does the ad have an elitist or populist appeal; that is, toward which social class is it targeted?

What is the ad selling besides the product?

What is the tone of the ad? How is the tone created?

What image does the ad attempt to create for this product?

Why will this ad be effective in persuading its target audience to buy the product?

How does the ad use metaphor?

How do such elements as color, body language, camera movement, copy, subliminal images, etc., support the campaign’s goal?

Above all, create a project that interests and engages you!
