“Keeping a promise is morally important because it allows the person to fully trust the person fulfilling the promise if the promise is kept. If one keeps a promise, it shows one’s true moral character. Promise-keepers are liable, honest, and trustworthy. Relationships are often much stronger when promise-keeping is involved. It is evident that most people try to avoid having relations or business with untrustworthy promise breakers. They are uncertain of whether the promise breakers are telling the full truth and will often have to investigate by asking questions in order to decide if they can trust the promise breaker. The Bible says in Numbers 30:2, “If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth”. 73 As a Christian, that Bible verse gives enough reason to understand the moral importance of a person keeping a promise. It is important to fully understand the promise that is being made before actually accepting the promise.
Under certain circumstances, promise breaking can be permissible. If the promise one told to keep is involved in a life or death situation, then it is acceptable to break the promise. For example, a person had a friend that was mentally unstable with suicidal thoughts. The friend made the person promise not to tell anyone about the issues that they were having. In this situation, the person keeping the promise would only be harming the friend. Morally, breaking the promise and seeking help for the friend is the most beneficial and most Christian-like way of addressing the situation. Utilitarianism evaluates the morality of an action by examining the results that are likely to follow from it. 43 This situation would be an act of utilitarianism, because it involves doing a morally correct behavior while helping the struggling friend prosper, which results in the act being beneficial for all.
If keeping a promise is conflicting with a moral value set by God, promise breaking can be obligatory. In college, it can sometimes be hard to turn down things that God would not approve of. In the Bible, drunkenness and addiction is a sin. It is evident that many college students want to get the feel of the real world by going out and partying on the weekends. For example, a college student makes a promise to a friend that involves attending a party over the weekend. The college student realizes that alcohol and drugs may be involved and does not want to go against God’s word. In this situation, it is acceptable to break the promise, because the college student sensed a feeling that the night out would end up violating God’s morals and jeopardizing God’s relationship with the college student. This situation involves an ethical egoist. An ethical egoist is someone that thinks doing what would most benefit the one performing the action is morally obligatory. 43 Even though all of the college student’s friends are going out, the college student decides to break the promise and stay at the dorm because it is what is most beneficial in the college student’s life.”
After reading your classmates’ threads, choose one to which you will respond, then write a reply that interacts with your classmate’s thread and presents a well-reasoned alternative to his or her approach to the issue:
You do not have to defend a position that is diametrically opposed to your classmate’s position, but you do need to either defend a position that is significantly different from his/hers or defend the same position in a very different way. If possible, you must reply to a classmate to whom no one else has yet replied. Treat your classmate’s opinion with sensitivity and respect.
This is a university-level writing assignment. Therefore it must be carefully proofread, free of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Do not use slang, emoticons, or abbreviations (as if you are texting or sending an email to a friend).
Your reply must be 500–600 words. You will be penalized for falling short or exceeding the word count. Any quotes or information used from sources other than yourself (including your classmate’s thread) must be cited using footnotes in current Turabian format and will not count towards the total word count.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, focuses on patterns of thinking, with decreased attention on patterns of behavior and emotional components of relationships. Researchers have given an enormous amount of attention to CBT and its application to a variety of individual mental health concerns, but they also have appropriated it for working with couples and families. Many systems purists argue that CBT is an individual-oriented theory that lacks systemic concepts necessary to conceptualize family or couple issues. In the end, you will have to make the decision as a couples and family helping professional as to whether CBT can address the relational demands of practitioner work with couples and families.

Choose one media resource from this week’s resources to review. As you begin to formulate a theory-based treatment plan, consider how you would maintain focus on the cognitive-behavioral realm of the couples and/or families, yet attend to the emotional dynamics present in the video.

The Assignment (2–3 pages)

Based on the theory demonstrated in the video you chose (CBT with either a couple or family):

Define the problem.

Formulate a theory-based treatment plan including short- and long-term goals for the couples and/or families.

Describe two theory-based interventions you would use and justify your selection.

Explain one anticipated outcome of each.

Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list for all resources, including those in the resources for this course.

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 600–800 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.
You are speaking on the phone with Mike when he asks about what sort of cultural aspects you are considering in this plan.
You think about this and say, “There may well be some considerable cultural differences that need addressing. I remember last year when there was a language mix-up with a doll. It was just saying ‘I love you’ in a different language, but it sounded like ‘kill mommy.’ It’s funny now, but imagine being the marketing team in that building!” Both of you laugh as you hang up the phone, but the memory does get you thinking seriously about cultural differences. Complete the following:
What cultural considerations should you take into account for your strategy?
Will this negatively impact your current strategy?
Does this change your approach? Why or why not?

Preparing for the Assignment

BACKGROUND Healthcare is readily embracing any technology to improve patient outcomes, streamline operations,

and lower costs, but we must also consider the impact of such technology on privacy and patient care.

This technology includes the use of social media applications, such as Facebook, Instagram, MySpace,

Twitter, and LinkedIn on smartphones.

NR360 INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN HEALTHCARE

NR360 We Can But Dare We.docx Revised 5 ‐ 9 ‐ 16 DA/LS/psb 07.14.16 3

In healthcare today, smartphones are widely used for communication, efficiency, and care. Obviously, a

variety of issues (ethical, professional, and legal) from both the personal and hospital perspectives

must be considered. SCENARIO

You are a nurse in the emergency room, working the Friday 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift, and your evening has

been filled with the usual mix of drunken belligerent teens, wailing babies, chronic obstructive

pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations, falls, fractures, and the routine, regular congestive heart

failure (CHF) patients. Your best friend is texting you from the concert that you had to miss tonight

because you were scheduled to work, and you respond to her between care of patients, jealous that she

is there and you are not. “What a jerk to torture me like this!” you think to yourself.

It is now 2 a.m., and the medics radio once again, notifying you of an incoming motor vehicle accident

victim, ETA of 5 minutes. You sigh and opt to use the restroom, rather than getting that much‐needed

cup of coffee, and prepare a room for your next patient. The medics roll in and begin to fill you in. The

patient is a 28‐year‐old male, a passenger on a bus that was involved in a crash, leaving the vehicle

overturned after rolling over an embankment. There were several fatalities among the bus passengers,

and “this victim has remained unconscious, though his vitals are currently” . . . and as you start to focus

on the patient, you take a second look. Can it be? It is! The lead singer, Jerod, from the band “Blue

Lizards,” who you have adored since you first heard his voice! The band had just left the concert that

you had missed last evening when the accident occurred. You quickly text your best friend . . . “Can you

believe?” and she responds with “Yeah, right. PROVE IT.” So you quickly snap a picture with your

smartphone, when alone with the patient, and send it to her. Can’t hurt, right? Celebrities are “public

property,” and that’s a part of their life, right? Just for good measure, you snap a few more pictures of

the unconscious singer in various stages of undress and then a shot of his home address, phone number,

and demographic information from his electronic health record. You sit your phone down on the

bedside table for a minute as you continue your assessment of the patient.

At 7:00 a.m., you drag your tired body home and straight to bed after a long but eventful night.

What happens next? Choose an ending to the scenario, and construct your paper based on those

reflections:

  1. You are the following nurse on the day shift and discover the night nurse’s phone on the bedside

table. While trying to figure out to whom it belongs, you open the phone and see the

photographs taken the night before. Holy moly! What a find, and nobody could trace you to the

photos.

  1. You receive a call from the gossip paper the Gossip Gazette, offering you $20,000 for the photos

you have taken (courtesy of your best friend). Your identity would never be revealed, and you

desperately need a new car and are behind on some bills.

  1. You go on Facebook, on your day off, and talk about the night you had at work and how you

didn’t really feel as bad having to miss the concert, because you actually got to meet Jerod in

person and even “Got his number!” You then post a picture of Jerod on Facebook and

NR360 INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN HEALTHCARE

NR360 We Can But Dare We.docx Revised 5 ‐ 9 ‐ 16 DA/LS/psb 07.14.16 4

Instagram, figuring that most of your contacts would never recognize him anyway. It’s your day

off and your personal time, so no harm, no foul, right?

  1. You receive a message the next morning from a peer at work that there is a big investigation

being conducted at work due to a HIPAA violation and that it involved a celebrity who had been

admitted to the hospital. The word is that legal action is being taken against the hospital due to

some photos that were sold to the Gossip Gazette. Knowing that the photo you sent is safe with

your best friend, you reach for your smartphone, but it is nowhere to be found.

Literature homework help

Read “The Collector of Treasures” (e-text only–not in our textbook) by Bessie Head, a writer from Botswana. For this assignment, there are two options:

Option 1: write about why Dikeledi is “the collector of treasures.”

Option 2: consider the part of the text on page 29 where it states “there are really only two kinds of men in the society.” Respond to the content of this part of the text. Remember, the story is based in Botswana. Rather than taking a stand on whether “there are really only two kinds of men,” think about why the author may have included this exposition within the story.

Competency
Assess current legal and ethical principles and the application of such principles in healthcare practice.
Instructions
You have recently been promoted to Health Services Manager at Three Mountains Regional Hospital, a small hospital located in a mid-size city in the Midwest. Three Mountains is a general medical and surgical facility with 400 beds. Last year there were approximately 62,000 emergency visits and 15,000 admissions. More than 6,000 outpatient and 10,000 inpatient surgeries were performed.
Three Mountains was recently in the news after employee emails were drafted in which patients were discussed in very negative terms, although patient names were not used. The employees that sent these emails were fired. The CEO and the Board of Directors has tasked you with developing an intake packet for new patients that will reestablish patient trust in the facility, employees, and staff. The patient packet will address new patient concerns by including information about HIPAA, informed consent, a confidential health history report, and a living will. The new packet will also include the values of the organization and a code of ethics.
Your intake packet will start with the Hospital’s Code of Ethics that includes at least 10 ethical points. The code of ethics should include (at a minimum):
Patient relations
Physician activities
Billing for services
Political activities
Conflict of interest
Communication, including social media
Privacy
The Code of Ethics should be submitted in bullet format in a Word document with an introduction. APA formatting for the ethical points and proper grammar is required.
Upon completion of your code of ethics, please prepare a PowerPoint presentation (or other shareable Webware/software you prefer) with narration in which you explain each ethical point and its relevance in the healthcare industry with examples to the CEO, so that she can answer questions from the Board.
The PowerPoint should have a minimum of 5 slides and a maximum of 12.
Describe each ethical point in the Code of Ethics.
Use the notes area on each slide as needed to expand on the key points.
You may use a free screen capture site such as Screencast-O-Matic to record a video of your presentation. Screencast-O-Matic is a site and program that can perform screen desk and audio capture up to 15 minutes for free, and can be utilized on a Windows or Mac computer. (Note: You can use another, similar program if you prefer. Screencast-O-Matic is only a suggestion). Make sure that both your voice and the PowerPoint slides are captured on the video.
Your audio presentation should include an introduction, a concise discussion of each slide, and a conclusion. The presentation should demonstrate your overall knowledge of the content, pronunciation of words, organization, proper recording, professionalism, and clarity.
Your presentation should be 10 minutes or less. Be sure to include the following:
Include a link to the location of your live video on the last slide of your PowerPoint presentation.
Make sure to use audience specific language and tone in your PowerPoint. Remember, you would be presenting this to the CEO of your facility.
Save both your Word document and PowerPoint presentation to a folder on your computer. Then zip or compress your folder. This resource from the Library and Learning Services offers help with zipping your folder. Upload the zipped folder to the assignment drop box.
APA formatting for the References slide, and proper grammar, punctuation, and form are required. APA help is available here.
