In this unit, you learned about the many different trial procedures. One very vital area that almost every criminal justice professional will encounter is the collection and admissibility of evidence. For this assignment, prepare an essay describing, analyzing, and arguing all sides of admissibility of the following types of evidence that must be used to obtain a guilty verdict of a defendant in a criminal trial:
direct evidence,
hearsay evidence,
indirect evidence,
real evidence, and
testimonial evidence.
In addition to describing, analyzing, and arguing all sides of admissibility, be sure to meet the criteria below when writing your essay.
Include an introduction that familiarizes the reader with your topic and provides a clear direction for your essay.
Describe the different types of evidence.
Explain the role of evidence in criminal trial proceedings.
Discuss the collection and handling of evidence.
Describe why evidence is a vital part of the trial process.
It is recommended that you use your own jurisdiction’s rules of evidence if possible. For active duty and retired military personnel, feel free to use the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). You may also want to use the Nexis Uni Academic Universe database in the CSU Online Library. Use the search term “Edward Imwinkelreid” to locate articles written by Professor Imwinkelreid, who is considered a leading expert on evidence.
Your essay must be at least two pages in length, and you must use at least three academic resources. The aforementioned resources are not mandatory but are strongly suggested for use. Any information from a resource must be cited and referenced in APA style, and your paper should be formatted in accordance to APA guidelines.

1. Think about the division of labor along gender lines in the household in which you grew up. Who did what? Why was it like that? Would you want to maintain or change this in your own adult household? Why? If you are cohabitating now (with a spouse, partner, or roommates), discuss how you divide the labor in your current household and if it is similar to the way household chores were distributed in your family of origin (and why or why not).
2.What does “equal rights” mean to you? How much equality is there between men and women in U.S. society?
3.Gender role socialization begins at birth, or before. Friends and relativeswant to know the sex of the expected child so that they can purchase gender-appropriate blankets, pillows, bibs, and clothes (blue or pink). The socialization continues and becomes more intense as children get older. Is it possible to raise boys and girls in the same way? Is it desirable? What are some of the obvious ways in which children are taught gender roles? Can people change those to reduce gender-based discrimination? Should we? If so, how? Be specific in outlining some proactive ways to create gender equity through changing gender roles and expectations.
4.How are gender roles related to sex roles? What do they teach us about how to act sexually and with whom to have sex?
5.Why should women in the United States care about the status of women in Bangladesh or Ethiopia or other distant nations? Is there any responsibility for the U.S. women’s movement to participate in the global women’s movement? Why or why not? If so, what are some of the ways in which U.S. women can contribute?
6.Why should men be interested in promoting equal rights and opportunities for women? What are some appropriate ways for men to help women gain greater social, political, and economic power?
7.What do you think would be the most effective way to diminish social inequality between the sexes in the United States? Political inequality? Economic inequality?
8.What do you think would be the most effective way to diminish social inequality between the sexes in the United States? Political inequality? Economic inequality?
9.If you were to conduct a study about sex discrimination, how would you go about doing so? What theoretical perspective would best help you make sense of your findings?
10.Describe how women of color are “doubly oppressed” and lesbian women of color are “triply oppressed” in our society. Does your friendship circle include people of various (a) genders, (b) sexual orientations, and (c) races? Why or why not?

This paper should be a “pilot research” on some topic discussed in class and/or

This paper should be a “pilot research” on some topic discussed in class and/or in the readings. It may be a theoretical elaboration on the real-life experience you narrate in the first paper, or it may be on an unrelated topic. Scholarly apparatus is required. What does this all mean? Topic Choosing: It would behoove you to choose a topic that is based in and expands upon one of the topics/lectures/themes from the course. This will help with selecting papers for references/citations. 1. Linguistic Phenomenon – This will likely be the most common paper topic. You should acquire data somehow (audio/visual recordings of conversations, interviews of specific speakers/populations, corpus, literary text, informal text [think emails/text messages], etc.). You are welcome to work with the language(s) and dialect(s) of your choice, just be sure to explain and translate when necessary. A language “phenomenon” is a quirk or oddity in the language that is not immediately obvious. Your job is to isolate this phenomenon, describe how/why/where it occurs, and to make an argument as to its significance and pragmatic meaning. 2. Language Experiment – Conduct your own language experiment using the resources that you have. This could be a language survey given to native and/or non-native speakers, a discourse-based experiment, a test of some kind, or some other variant. Be sure to work on multiple drafts of the experiment before issuing it so that the experiment definitely reflects the research question you have in mind. Based on the results of this experiment, write a research report that discusses the hypothesis, thesis, and original findings. 3. Expansion of Paper #1 – This is not mutually exclusive from the topics above. If this is the route you choose, be sure to incorporate actual data (see above) that expands upon the topic in your first paper. Keep in mind that what you write in your expansion should be entirely new; no copying and pasting from the previous paper. You should have plenty to work with considering you will now have articles/theories to cite and authentic language samples to analyze. 4. Other – if your topic does not fit into these categories, please run it past Brandon or Trevor to see if it is suitable for this paper. Scholarly Apparatus: This refers to using citations. Since this is not a “writing intensive” or “W” course, we are not picky about the particular style, be it APA or MLA. That being said, we have a slight preference for APA, as this is most common in the humanities. Citing sources is necessary in this paper in order to 1) provide suitable background for the academic framework you support the arguments you make. Correctly citing sources is not strictly an exercise in academic writing; it is also necessary to avoid plagiarism. Grading: (see rubric) Formatting: Let’s say 12-point Times New Roman (or similar) font. Note: Paper must be between 1750-2500 words (about 7-10 pages). Papers in excess of 2500 words will be shredded (not really). Word count does not include your language data, but it does include all other components. When papers are too short, the total paper grade is reduced by a mathematical formula whereby 10% too short = 10% off, etc.

Watch Star Wars: Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Based on this film, write a 500-1000 word essay in which you analyze the movie in terms of the racial and religious trends of the 1970s and how Star Wars not only reflected these trends, but also created new trends as well. Explain why the film was so enormously popular in America.
Paper Requirements:
• Write in 3rd person voice. DO NOT use 1st person voice.
• Use Arial or Helvetica Font, 12 point size
• Margins should be 1″ on all four sides of your essay
• Name block is single-spaced. The rest of the essay is double-spaced.
• Do not add extra space after carriage returns or any other paper stretching method. Remember, the word count (500-1000 words) is the requirement, so trying to stretch a three page paper into five pages is pointless. When you turn a paper in electronically, it gives a word count. Short papers will receive a significant point deduction.
• Grammar, punctuation, spelling and proper essay formatting count. You should be able to write a well organized essay, which includes an introduction with a solid thesis, a well-organized and cohesive body, and a proper conclusion. If you have trouble in these areas, please go to the learning center to get assistance. It is located in University Hall (UH) 351.
• No outside sources are necessary or desired for this assignment.
• Double-check that you have cited your sources. I am ruthless when it comes to plagiarism, so please make sure your sources are properly cited. Including only a bibliography at the end is not enough. You must include both the proper citation notes and a bibliography in MLA, APA, or Chicago-Turabian style.
• Put your NAME, CLASS AND SECTION NUMBER (History 146-03) on your paper in the top right corner

For this assignment, you will identify a drafted research article either in the print literature or online. Your article must be based on empirical (data-based) research; qualitative or purely descriptive research is not appropriate. Select a journal article in your career specialization that reports a correlation, a t test, a one-way ANOVA, or some combination of these test statistics.
The library guides listed in the Resources area can help you to locate appropriate articles.
The intent of this assignment is to:
Expose you to professional literature in your discipline.
Provide practice in the interpretation of statistical results contained in an empirical (data-based) journal article.
Provide practice in writing and thinking in a concise and economical manner that is typical of scientific discourse.
You will summarize the article in a maximum of 600 words using the DAA Template located in the Resources area. Specific instructions for completing each section of the DAA Template are listed below.
You may use some of the author’s own words to summarize the article with proper citation, but avoid lengthy direct quotes (such as copying multiple sentences or paragraphs verbatim). You should not exceed the limit of 600 words. This is a situation where less is better.
Step 1: Write Section 1 of the DAA.
Provide a brief summary of the journal article.
Include a definition of the specified variables (predictor, outcome) and corresponding scales of measurement (nominal, continuous).
Specify the sample size of the data set.
Discuss why the journal article is relevant to your career specialization.
Step 2: Write Section 2 of the DAA.
Discuss the assumptions of the statistical test used in the journal article.
If possible, identify information in the article about how these assumptions were tested.
If no information on assumptions is provided, consider this as a limitation of the reported study.
Step 3: Write Section 3 of the DAA.
Specify the research question from the journal article.
Articulate the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis.
Step 4: Write Section 4 of the DAA.
Report the results of the statistical test using proper APA guidelines. This includes:
The statistical notation (such as r, t, or F).
The degrees of freedom.
The statistical value of r, t, or F, and the p value.
Report the effect size and interpretation if one is provided.
Interpret the test statistic with regard to the null hypothesis.
Step 5: Write Section 5 of the DAA.
Discuss the conclusions of the statistical test as it relates to the research question.
Conclude with an analysis of the strengths and limitations of the study reported in the journal article.
