Create an engaging vocabulary game that utilizes five different teaching strategies for vocabulary development

Create an engaging vocabulary game that utilizes five different teaching strategies for vocabulary development. These strategies should also address Common Core’s three tiers of academic language:

  1. Common words, which most children acquire in daily conversations in their first language;
  2. Content specific technical words, which may be commonly used or rarely used; and
  3. Words that define written text, generally more sophisticated and precise than words used in conversation OR academic vocabulary from academic texts

Submit a description of the game materials and instructions on how the game is to be played in a 250-500-word essay.

The vocabulary game should include strategies that can be used as informal assessments. Be sure to allow for differentiation for ELL or special needs students. The game should be one that can be replicated at home by the students and their family members.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

What are the daily processes and routines each family goes through as they come to and leave your program each day?

Skills, Dispositions and Data Collection

This week, you will continue your pilot research study by conducting an interview at the early childhood program that you contacted. Gather tools to be able to take notes during the interview, as you will be turning in this “raw data” with your written assignment.

In addition to the three questions you developed, be sure to include the following questions in your interview:

·         What are the daily processes and routines each family goes through as they come to and leave your program each day? What is the purpose behind these?

·         What aspects of the physical, social and emotional environments support respect for families and welcome their diverse characteristics and abilities?

·         What skills and dispositions should early childhood practitioners possess in order to create and maintain collaborative relationships with the families?

Writing the Assignment

a.       The assignment should be two to four pages, in addition to a separate title page, a separate reference page and the appendix. Format your writing as follows: MS Word, double-spaced, 12-point font, one-inch margins all around and APA format. Your reference page should now consist of at least four outside scholarly sources (two from Week Two and two from Week Three), in addition to the textbook and required readings.

b.      Describe the early childhood program and the community where it resides and explain why you chose this program. Provide details on the demographics of the families and community where the program resides.

c.       Describe the process you went through to gather this information/data. (What steps did you take to obtain background information and collect the responses to the interview questions, etc.?) Be thorough and specific as the methodology is important to document in any research process.

d.      Provide a brief summary of the responses and compare them to aspects of your philosophy and approach to family and community engagement. Identify similarities and differences that you find and discuss connections between the interview responses and quality of childcare issues identified in this week’s discussion topic.

e.      Attach your interview notes as an appendix separate from the written paper assignment. (These notes do not need to be in Standard English format but do need to be legible.)

Is there a theme/idea/perspective that runs through the responses to your questions?

Discussion and Implications

This week, you will work to analyze your findings and connect them to current literature. You will also discuss the impact of your findings on your philosophy and approach to family and community engagement.

Writing the Assignment

The assignment should be three to four pages in addition to a separate title page and a separate reference page, all formatted in APA style. Format your writing as follows: MS Word, double-spaced, 12-point font, one-inch margins all around. Include your modified philosophy statement in an appendix to the paper.

Address the following topics and answers these questions:

a.    Analyze Themes: Is there a theme/idea/perspective that runs through the responses to your questions? Is there more than one theme? Do the findings surprise or puzzle you in any way? If so, in what ways? How do your themes relate to effective family and community engagement as it has been discussed in class so far?

b.     Connect to literature: Use the class textbook and articles and at least two outside scholarly sources that either support or dispute the findings in your data. Discuss your findings in relation to these references. How do these connections relate to your themes?

c.     Evaluate your analysis to your philosophy: Discuss analysis of themes and connections to literature in relation to your philosophy and approach to family and community engagement. How did conducting this research inform your philosophy and approach? Did it change certain aspects? Do you want to include something more in your philosophy based on this research? Modify your philosophy statement and include it as an appendix to this paper.

Though brief summaries are needed to provide context, please remember that “discussing findings” means making connections, drawing inferences, and evaluating the responses in relation to what you have learned in this course and from your own experiences.

Provide a critical response or a defense of the argument (Just like the Singer paper) Ideally, you should make a couple of argumentative moves here.

Provide a reconstruction of the argument provided by the article (look for the attchment).

(((  5 full written pages  )))

To do this, you must successfully break the argument down into premises and conclusions.

The paper should be structured as follows.

I.                    Introduction (This should be extremely short– a few sentences at most. Here you can introduce the author and the paper, and what it is about.

II.                  Argument (This is the meat of the paper.) Here you should reconstruct The author’s argument in detail. This should include the primary argument and sub-arguments. Determine if and how each premise is supported. Do not evaluate during this portion, simply present the argument that Singer puts forward. (Singer’s argument is much simpler than Frege’s so this section won’t be quite as long.)

III.   Response Provide a critical response or a defense of the argument (Just like the Singer paper) Ideally, you should make a couple of argumentative moves here.

Guidelines:

Make sure that you cite your primary source and any other sources properly. Many of you failed to do this for the first paper, and I let you slide/gave you assistance. All improperly cited papers from now on will receive a 0.

-The paper should be at most five pages. (12 pt. font double spaced) Longer papers will be graded down. Note that you might struggle to fit all the requisite information into five pages. Anything less than four pages is most likely too short.

Misc

Here is a rough guide for how your paper should be structured:

Section I- A short paragraph, no more than 1/3 of a page

Section II-  pages. Here’s where you present the argument and present justification for the premises. You may break this into two sections (reconstruction followed by premise justification) or go piece by piece (justify each premise after stating it). Either is acceptable.

Section III- In this section I’d like you to provide a response to the argument presented, and if space permits, a speculative response in turn. (Just like the Singer Paper)
