Rational Emotive Behavioral

Read the “Case Study Analysis.”

Select one of the following theories that you feel best applies to treating the client in the case study:

  1. Behavioral
  2. Rational Emotive Behavioral

Write a 750-1,000-word analysis of the case study using the theory you chose. Include the following in your analysis.

  1. What concepts of the theory make it the most appropriate for the client in the case study?
  2. Why did you choose this theory over the other theory?
  3. What will be the goals of counseling and what intervention strategies are used to accomplish those goals?
  4. Is the theory designed for short- or long-term counseling?
  5. What will be the counselor’s role with this client?
  6. What is the client’s role in counseling?
  7. For what population(s) is this theory most appropriate? How does this theory address the social and cultural needs of the client?
  8. What additional information might be helpful to know about this case?
  9. What may be a risk in using this approach?

research essay about Stegosaurus

Use only respectable internet sites with iron-clad credentials, by major universities, museums and scientific publications. No matter how good a website is, do not cite an internet site as a source for factual information, unless the information is a figure (image). Select sources that offer as much information about the following as possible: author’s name, author’s title or position, author’s organizational affiliation, date of page creation, back-up references.

Directions:

1.Describe when, where and by whom the first fossils of Stegosaurus (North America)were found and and a brief history of more recent discoveries it possible. Cite at least one scientific reference to support it.

2. Attach a location map that shows where Stegosaurus was found. This map should be labeled Figure 1, and it must have a caption that includes the scientific source from which you got the map.

3. Describe the currently-known geographic distribution and time range of your dinosaur, citing at least one reference.

History of Black Catholics in the United States.

This selection is the concluding pages of Cyprian Davis’ famous book The History of Black Catholics in the United States. It will give us a brief historical account to ground our discussion of race and the Christian tradition. This section of the course will require some tough thinking… do not expect everything to work out perfectly! I just ask that everyone try to be honest and open with this stuff… we’ll go over some ground rules with that on Tuesday.

For this assignment, I just want you to write me a paragraph about what you learned from it regarding the Catholic Church and racial justice in the 20th century. Note that this article does not try to clear up some of the ambiguities surrounding race and Christianity… Davis is happy to simply provide you with some stories and offer his thoughts on their significance. So, your paragraph here should indicate that you recognize that things are rather complicated here! One strand you might want to keep an eye on is the relationship between theory and practice… in other words, how did theoretical teachings about race actually work out in real life?

Consider the application of community health education theories. One theory might fit Problem A but is not appropriate for Problem B.

Your Working Definition of Community Health Education Theory

Public health problems have existed for thousands of years. For those interested in investigating and finding effective solutions to these problems, the decades since the mid-20th century have seen an unprecedented growth in the use of theory to bolster the relationship between research and practice. The theory or theories that “fit” a public health program can mean the difference between its success or its failure.

There are myriad theoretical frameworks and models from which to choose, both from the social sciences and the “hard” sciences (e.g., biology, physics). It is important to understand a wide variety of theories and to focus not only on the differences but on the similarities among theories. Bandura stated “theories are interpreted in different ways depending on the stage of the development of the field of study.” Public health is a newer field; thus, community health education theories may still be in the process of trial, change, and retesting.

Consider the application of community health education theories. One theory might fit Problem A but is not appropriate for Problem B. Conversely, multiple theories may each fit one problem perfectly. How do you choose the best theory(ies)?

For this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources and the media titled “Overview of Public Health and Behavior Change Theories.” Think about the various types of theories. Consider the use of community health education theory and how this type of theory differs from other types of theories used in public health.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by 3-4 pages of your working definition of community health education theory. Then explain how community health education theory is different from other types of theories used in public health

How do you begin to create effective public health education programs?

In your role as a public health educator, it is likely you may be responsible for designing a program to help people change harmful behaviors to prevent illness or premature death—or to improve their overall health and wellness. How do you begin to create effective public health education programs? If you said “with theory,” you are correct.

Theories are dynamic; thus, they are able to capture the complexity inherent in most community health education endeavors. In addition, in the field of public health, there is increasingly a requirement for a strong evidence base, and theory can play a role. If you are conducting public health research or planning a community health education program or intervention and have not used theory, a crucial element is missing.

For this Discussion, review the Learning Resources, and consider the roles that theory plays in health education research and practice and what theoretical framework you might use in your Scholar-Practitioner Project.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post 3-4 pages of an explanation of the role of theory in health education research and practice. Then, explain the significance of applying theory in research and practice. Provide an example.

Post 3-4 pages of a brief summary of the community and the public health issue you have previously investigated or one in which you are interested.

When asked her definition of community, Belize’s Ministry of Health Information Officer Arlette Sheppard answered, “Well, it’s not defined by boundaries. It’s really defined by the values, the way people communicate, the resources they use . . . They have their own dynamics and we need to work with that” (Laureate Education, Inc., 2012f). What significance does this definition have for public health professionals seeking to plan relevant public health programs? Why might some communities find a given public health issue more relevant than other communities do?

For this Discussion, review the media presentation for this week. Reflect on the concept of community in Planning Public Health Programs in Belize. Then, focus on the public health projects featured in theScholars of Changevideos (see the Learning Resources). Reflect on the scholars’ experiences and how people like you were able to foster social change within their communities. Consider how you might make a positive difference in your community through a public health program.

Then, select a community facing a public health issue that you can use as the basis for a public health program you will feature in your Scholar-Practitioner Project (SPP) for this course. (Refer to the SPP guidelines in this week’s Learning Resources for details.) If you completed Step I of the SPP in PUBH 8450: Community Health Assessment and Step II in PUBH 8440: Application of Public Health and Behavior Change Theories, please refer to that community. If you have not have completed Steps I and II of the SPP, use a community and public health issue you may have investigated from other courses or an issue in which are interested.

Post 3-4 pages of a brief summary of the community and the public health issue you have previously investigated or one in which you are interested. Explain why this is a relevant health issue for the community you selected. Finally, describe a possible public health program that you could develop if you had unlimited resources, and explain how it would address the public health issue.

Read the Campbell and Stanley text, paying particular attention to the design that your instructor has assigned you.

When choosing a research design, the design to use depends on the question you’re asking. For this Discussion, you will work a bit backwards: you will be given a design and then determine the research question that would be appropriate to the design. By looking at the design from both ends, you will learn this vital concept in more depth than if you had only approached it in one way.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  •
  • Read the Campbell and Stanley text, paying particular attention to the design that your instructor has assigned you.

  • You will be assigned a design from the Campbell & Stanley text and become an expert on it for your colleagues. You do NOT need to use the assigned design for your final project.

  • Analyze the design given in terms of appropriateness, assumptions, strengths and weaknesses, and threats to internal and external validity. See the Application for more detail.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post 3- to 5-pages analysis of your assigned quantitative research design. Your analysis should include:

  •
  • A brief description of the design and where it is most appropriately used

  • The assumptions for the design

  • The strengths and weaknesses of the design and the threats to internal and external validity

conduct a close analysis and observation of a specific sub-culture.

in an essay of at least 1,500 words, please conduct a close analysis and observation of a specific sub-culture. The sub-culture you choose mustbe specific to ensure that you can sucessfully accomplish the essay. This means avoid things like “Americans” or even “people from Arizona.” Think of clubs you or your friends belong to, subcultures on campus, online/internet cultures, hobbies, religious groups, etc.

Once you choose a sub-culture, choose a specific focus for the essay. You could choose to write a narrative that discusses your journey of discovery while observing this culture, you could write a day-in-the-life type essay, you could examine how the subculture sees itself and others, or you could come up with a question that drives the focus of your research/observations and leads to a thesis.

You MUST complete fieldwork for this assignment. Because the assignment will be due fairly soon, be sure to choose a culture you have easy access to.

You will be utilizing both your primary observations and fieldwork as well as background information and statistics. This means you will have to do some outside research.

You will need to include the following: background information on the culture, a rationale for why this group constitutes a distinct culture, a clear focus (thesis statement), logical organization, LOTS of details (subjective description and sensory detail are your friends here), the inclusion of primary research from your observations, interviews (qualitative research) and at least 1 secondary source to help you with background information, statistics, etc.
