1) Identify at least 6 hazards – remember the definition of “hazard.”  

2) State what’s wrong,

3) Explain each of those identified hazard (or discuss what could go wrong/happen) in a paragraph format.

When you discuss, think in terms of negative effect towards: (a) employees (human), (b) property, and (c) environment. (If you currently don’t work, visit a facility/establishment where you could revisit. You observation must be where people work and NOT a place of residence such as a house or an apartment.)

The document must contain the following sections where you must discuss each section in a paragraph format:

The second part of the assignment is to read some of your fellow students’ initial posts and reply substantively to one of them. (Wait until after next Monday, July 18 to do this part of the assignment in order to see all of the initial posts). The substantive reply is due by Friday, July 22 at 11:59 PM.

1.The drum solo by Mike Shrieve impressed me more than the guitar solo by Jimi Hendrix. Both artists (Shrieve and Hendrix) are extremely talented and it was hard to make a decision which one was more impressive; Hendrix makes his guitar sound like it’s talking and Shrieve does something similar with the drums. Even though Hendrix plays his instrument with exquisite talent, I don’t care for the way it causes the “Star Spangled Banner” to sound. The guitar sounds like it’s actually saying the words but there are parts where it seems to go crazy-as if it’s on drugs or something. There are also other parts where it sounds dark and depressing when the actual song is supposed to be inspiring/uplifting. Shrieve played his drum solo with a similar talent and I was more impressed with hit basically because I didn’t like the way Hendrix played the national anthem.

2. I had a difficult time understanding both Joe Cocker and Sly Stone. When Joe Cocker started to sing his song I was impressed by the quality of his voice but I didn’t care for the way he continually slurred his words-it made me wonder if he had drunk too much before going on stage. His air guitar playing was also made him seem amateur (even though he clearly isn’t). I was less impressed by Sly Stone, who I also couldn’t understand and just liked the sound of the song a lot less. His jumping up and down on stage looks like he forgot to use the restroom before the performance.

3.  I think the most relevant performance today is “The Summertime Blues.” It’s a song that pretty much could apply to any era (after the song was made) and is just the typical life of an older teenager who works hard and tries to be responsible but still hasn’t quite gotten there. 

The song by Country Joe McDonald was an anti-war song that I don’t think was relevant even at the time. If Country Joe didn’t like fighting so much than why did he start his song off with extremely antagonistic profanity? It seems like he really was looking for a fight.

Even after reading the lyrics for the songs whose words I couldn’t hear, I still don’t understand what the songs mean; they sound like the writers were all on drugs.

4. By far the most enjoyable song was Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice.” More than anything else, I loved it because it had no words! All joking aside, his guitar playing is just great and the drummer was excellent too. The least enjoyable was Country Joe McDonald’s song, mostly because it was an anti-war song that criticizes fighting and yet the man singing seems like he is deliberately trying to pick a fight. I think if he wanted to criticize the war, he could have done it in a much more peaceful way than screaming profanities and making fun of soldiers.

3. Assume that the original qualifier was certainly; indicate whether the qualifier changes as we move from a simple, static, uncontested argument to a complex, dynamic and contested argument.

4. Apply the argument mapping procedures presented in Chapter 8 to analyze the pros and cons (or strengths and weaknesses) of the recommendations that the United States should not intervene in the Balkans.

5. Write a one (1) page analysis that uses critical thinking to assess the overall plausibility of the claim: “The conflict in Bosnia is somebody else’s trouble. The U.S. should not intervene militarily.”
6. Complete an argument map to illustrate your analysis.
7. Include at least two (2) peer-reviewed references (no more than five [5] years old) from material outside the textbook to support your views. Note: Appropriate peer-reviewed references include scholarly articles and governmental Websites. Do not use open source Websites such as Wikipedia, Sparknotes.com, Ask.com, and similar Websites are not acceptable resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

Addressing Maltreatment—The Role of Early Childhood Professionals

Last week, you explored a variety of influences on parenting practices and styles, including instances when children are subjected to maltreatment defined as: “intentional harm to or endangerment of a child” (Berns, 2013, p. 144). This week, you focused on the role of early childhood programs in the lives of young children and families. One responsibility of early childhood educators, as well as any professional who works with young children and their families, is to be aware of requirements for responding to suspected child maltreatment and to support children and families to try to prevent child maltreatment. This Action Plan will help you gain information and ideas to do both.

Action Plan Professional Scenario: Imagine that you are an early childhood professional who has recently moved to the state where you are currently working. You know that it is your responsibility to be aware of state child maltreatment regulations. You also want to be prepared to recognize, intervene, and if at all possible, try to prevent child maltreatment.

Before you create your Action Plan together, consider:

  • What you need to know about mandated reporting procedures in your state
  • What ideas and advice from experts can be useful in supporting children who may be at risk for abuse or are victims of abuse, as well as nonabusive adults in a household
  • What you must do in terms of reporting suspected abuse and what you realistically can do to help a child and family

*If you are unable to locate information for your state at this Web site, check your state board of education’s Web site, or do a Web search, for specific guidance and requirements for reporting child abuse in your state.

According to the NAEYC, early childhood educators are in a unique position to support children and families and, through these efforts, play a critical role in addressing the needs of children who are at risk for abuse and neglect.

Part I: How to Report Suspected Child Abuse in [Your State]

In your own words, explain the procedure for reporting suspected child abuse in your state. List the following:

  • Criteria to use for determining when abuse may be present and a report must be made
  • Steps to follow in making a report

Part II: Strategies for Helping Children and Families

Based on the resources, think about the kinds of needs families that have experienced abuse or are at risk for abuse may have in each of the following areas:

  • Knowledge of child development and positive parenting practices
  • Information on available community resources
  • Reassurance for children and nonabusive parents

Then, for each area, explain:

  • A specific need that a parent or child may have
  • Two specific strategies or suggestions you could use or recommend for addressing that need

As you write your plan:

  • Choose strategies that you as an early childhood professional would have the skill and influence to implement.
  • Think about how you present ideas and suggestions to families. Be supportive and nonjudgmental in the language you use.
