Problem Statement

The air transport industry is witnessing drastic growth over the past decades in regions throughout the world. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the number of passengers flown in 2005 was 2.1 billion, and by 2017 that number has doubled to 4.1 billion. Following current trends in air transport, the number of passengers is predicted to double to 8.2 billion by 2037. Despite the social and economic benefits associated with this growth, it is also accompanied by various environmentally damaging repercussions. The aviation industry is still a major contributor to Earth’s carbon emission. The increased in greenhouse gases and climate change has led respective authorities and organizations to create a sustainable solution to solve this ecological problem. It is therefore, imperative to understand the aviation effects on the environment as well as come up with sustainable methods so as to reduce the overall environmental impacts of this industry.

This paper will be identifying the aviation industry’s role in environmental degradation and its overall impact on aviation safety. The various areas of pollution such as carbon emissions, climate change, noise pollution and air pollution will also be covered.
