How do you find out about a person; how do you vet them from afar? Often you learn about someone from the information they post about themselves online in profiles on sites such as LinkedIn. Other times information is posted about the person by a third party or news service. Have you ever “googled” someone (searched their name on Google) when you first met them? If not, you might be surprised by the variety of information you can find once you zero in on the specific person you are looking for. Social and professional network profiles illustrate professional organizations, accomplishments, and job titles. Viewing profiles of people in your field may give you insights into job possibilities in your future.

Discussion: Connecting and Disconnecting Online

You connect online multiple times a day from emails, social media, and instant messages (IM) to virtual business meetings and conference calls. Today you can work on projects with people from around the globe-some you may never meet in person, but with whom you develop an online connection. How might the relationship with someone you met in person and online differ?

Being a human in a technological world provides virtual options for work that did not exist before. Educational systems are grappling to prepare students for jobs that simply didn’t exist 20 years ago. Businesses and companies create virtual teams consist of individuals who live all over the United States and even the world. Knowledge work (online teaching, consulting at a distance, and many other professions) is often done without stepping foot in an office building. If you could design the perfect job for you, what would it look like?

Many adults are still trying to determine what they want to be “when they grow up.” You are taking the first step in creating a path to your new or improved career. Technology has created many new career options, but it has also created networks of support for professionals in their field or discipline. How will you leverage virtual connections to gain traction in your career? Have you considered virtual career development? What technology mastery would enhance your ability to compete in your field?

To prepare for the Discussion:

  • Search for yourself on a search engine of your choice and review the findings. Did anything surprise you?
  • Identify a working professional in the field you hope to enter one day. Google them or look on LinkedIn for their profile.
  • View the Meet your Faculty media piece to meet your Program Director.
  • View the Walden Career Center website.
Prompt A

How might professional social networking assist you in meeting your own goals and building mentor relationships? Use social media to find a working professional in the same field as you are hoping to enter or currently advancing within.  What things can you learn from their profile?  Are there things you would like to strive toward?  Do you have any new thoughts about the field or your own goals after looking through this virtual profile?

Based on the “How to find a career mentor more easily” resource, discuss a tip you could immediately implement to begin building mentor relationships.

Select ONE (1) category from the completed World View Chart. Provide a rationale for choosing this category. What is compelling about this category? Why is it important in the study of religion?

FINAL PAPER: World View Chart Writing Assignment

Due Week 10 and worth 235 points

This assignment uses the information you have gathered for your weekly World View Chart Assignments.

Choose ONE (1) category (origin of all things, nature of god, view of human nature, view of good and evil, etc.) from the chart to focus on for this assignment. Consider how the selected category relates to all of the religions covered and to your own social or work experiences.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

  1. Select ONE (1) category from the completed World View Chart. Provide a rationale for choosing this category. What is compelling about this category? Why is it important in the study of religion?
  2. Describe the selected content and explain the significance of the selected category across all of the religions studied. Show in what ways the category is significant for each religion.
  3. Give an example of how you have noticed this category in your life, town or country. What impact does this category have in the everyday lives of people who practice religion in your area? (You do not have to give examples of all the religions in your area, just one you have noticed besides any you practice). For example, in Cincinnati, Ohio we have Hindu, Greek Orthodox, Catholic festivals in the summer. So if my category were “Festivals and Celebrations” I could use those events as my example.
  4. Use at least three (3) quality resources as references for the assignment and document your sources using APA Style for in-text citations and references. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
  5. Write clearly and coherently using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics.

Your assignment must:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Analyze what is meant by religion.
  • Analyze the similarities and differences in the primary beliefs held by major religious traditions and the cultures in which these religions evolved.
  • Describe the varieties of religious experience and practice in a wide range of cultures.
  • Recognize how daily life within various religions and current affairs are influenced by religion.

Part2

There are many public health issues in and out of the United States. In my opinion the top 5 issues are the healthcare systems in the United States, mental health, chronic diseases (diabetes, heart and cancer), drug overdose, and protection against looming diseases from other countries (CDC’s 7 public health, 2016).  Some of these issues were ranked as the top 7 according to the Centers for Prevention and Disease Control.

I believe one of the biggest concerns in public health is our failing healthcare systems as there are too many people who are uninsured and suffer detrimental inequalities because of the lack of affordable and quality medical care. Health care has been a controversial issue over the years . It is problematic that the government cannot reach amicable solutions to allow all people affordable health care and limit capitalization of services and products while doing so. Another problem, is bringing the mental health issue to the forefront and dealing with the stigma behind the horrible disease. In recent times people are beginning to talk about their mental health issues; thus, the realization of the medical condition is slowly taking a turn for the better. Next, chronic diseases such as diabetes heart disease, and cancer are other looming problems in public health. There must be a focus on these serious health conditions to continue to increase the life expectancy of individuals, especially since the population continue to age. Another concerning issues is the increase of prescription drug overdoses noted in recent years. The opioid crisis has surged as the complaint of pain in many individuals has become a common phenomenon. Thus, more solutions must be observed and implemented besides prescribing oral pain medicines to those affected with chronic pain (CDC’s 7 public health, 2016).  Finally, the threat of imminent diseases like Ebola and Zika must be monitored closely because the lack of vigilance could be catastrophic for the United States. There are many more public health concerns and not nearly enough funding or officials to deal with the problems of local, state, and global levels.

Every time we have to make a choice we are faced with an opportunity cost. Using an example in your professional life (I work in administration), identify a situation where you were presented with a choice, the opportunity cost of the choice you made, and the process you used to make your choice. As part of your discussion, explain whether or not responsible stewardship played a role in your choice. Remember to use the appropriate economic concepts and terminology that are applicable to your answer.

Please read below and answer the questions. Also, please pay close attention to the “note” section to properly answer the questions.

Assignment:

Every time we have to make a choice we are faced with an opportunity cost. Using an example in your professional life (I work in administration), identify a situation where you were presented with a choice, the opportunity cost of the choice you made, and the process you used to make your choice. As part of your discussion, explain whether or not responsible stewardship played a role in your choice. Remember to use the appropriate economic concepts and terminology that are applicable to your answer.

Note:

1) Support. Every post should have a cited quote to support their arguments. This is more than just a reference at the end. This quote can come from the book or elsewhere, but without any support, points will definitely be lost. Thank you for 2 good quotes…be sure to continue this on replies.2) Terminology. You discuss opportunity cost, but not how it is made up of different things. There are terms related to this that should be noted. I also do not see MB vs MC, which is huge as it shows you are thinking like an economist. Often times, application of the terminology covered is the biggest place where points are lost. 3) Responsible stewardship. Many people will breeze right over their discussion on this or not do it at all. Our core values help separate SLU from others and I ask that everyone reflect on how it works in their choices. I am glad to see that you recognized this behavior is not one that will get you far and you have succeeded based on adjustments since this event. That being said, responsible stewardship is all about thinking like an economist to maximize our benefits and minimize our costs.
