Minimum Requirements for a Pass in this Subject

To receive a clear pass in this subject a total mark of 50% or more must be achieved. In addition,

students must meet all of the minimum performance requirements as listed below. Failure to meet any

of the minimum performance requirements is grounds for awarding a Technical Fail (TF) in the subject

even where total marks accumulated are greater than 50%.

A Technical Fail (TF) grade will be awarded for the subject even where the total marks accumulated

are 50% or higher, if one or more of the following criteria are not met:

• does not attempt all assessment tasks

Minimum Requirements: Student Participation

Students who do not meet minimum attendance requirements may be awarded a Technical Fail (TF)

for this subject.

Regular student participation is required through active engagement with activities, readings,

podcasts as posted on the Moodle site.

Students who do not meet minimum participation through engagement with the Moodle site activities

as identified by the Moodle site analytics may be awarded a technical fail (TF) for this subject.

Minimum Participation: Student participation at workshops is not an assessable component of this

course, but is highly recommended. Students who do not meet minimum participation requirements

may be awarded a Technical Fail (TF) for this subject.

Minimum requirements are:

• submit all assessments

• Actively engage with the Moodle site activities, podcasts, eReadings and other

activities (75% benchmark set based on Moodle site analytics)

Students who do not meet the overall minimum performance level requirements outlined above may

be given a Technical Fail (TF) grade on their academic transcript even where the total marks

accumulated are 50% or higher. Where a Technical Fail is awarded, the grade is displayed as TF but

a mark is not displayed on the academic transcript. For the purposes of calculating a Weighted

Average Mark (WAM) a TF is allocated a mark of 49.

Scaling

Scaling will not occur in this subject.

Late Submission

Late submission of an assessment task without an approved extension of the deadline is not

acceptable. Marks will be deducted for late submission at the rate of 5% of the total possible marks

for that particular assessment task per day. This means that if a piece of work is marked out of 100,

then the late penalty will be 5 marks per day (5% of 100 possible marks per day). The formula for

calculating the late penalty is the total possible marks x 0.05 x number of days late. For example:

Student A submits an assignment which is marked out of 100. The assignment is submitted 7 days

late. This means that a late penalty of 35 marks will apply (100 x 0.05 x 7). The assignment is marked

as per normal out of 100 and is given a mark of 85/100, and then the late penalty is applied. The

result is that the student receives a final mark of 50/100 for the assignment (85 (original mark) – 35

marks (late penalty) = 50/100 (final mark)).

Student B submits a report which is marked out of 20. The report is submitted three days late. This

means that a late penalty of 3 marks will apply ((20 x 0.05 x 3). The report is marked as per normal

out of 20 and is given a mark of 17/20, and then the late penalty is applied. The result is that the

student receives a final mark of 14/20 for the report (17 (original mark) – 3 marks (late penalty) =

14/20 (final mark)).

For the purposes of this policy a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) will be regarded as two days.

No marks will be awarded for work submitted either: a) after the assessment has been returned to the

Hardcopies of this document are considered uncontrolled please refer to UOW website or eLearning for the latest version

2014_Aut_CHIP915_FINAL Page: 5 of 7 Last modified: 21 February 2014

students or b) more than two weeks after the due date, whichever is the sooner. Notwithstanding this,

students must complete all assessment tasks to a satisfactory standard and submit them, regardless

of lateness or loss of marks, where submission is a condition of satisfactorily completing the subject.

LIFC 501 Research Paper

Research Paper Instructions

Each student will individually write a 9 to 11-page research paper on a coaching topic, which does not include the title, abstract, or reference pages. The topic must be unique to the topics we cover in class and have a coaching focus. If you have questions about a topic, email the course instructor by the end of the first week of class.

The body of the paper should have two major sections. The first section should cover the research you have done on a particular topic that was addressed in the course. For example goal setting, motivation, transitions, etc…You should support your research by citing academic articles and books. The second section of your paper should be a reflection of this research. You will want to address how you think this will impact you and your coaching ministry/business. What are some of the implications of this research on how you would practice? Finally, address how this can personally impact you.

Other specifics:

· The paper is to be an original work of the author and written solely for this course. Although past papers can be used as reference, papers previously submitted cannot be used to fulfill this assignment.

· The paper must be written using APA format (6th ed.) and include title, abstract, and reference pages.

· Must be submitted as a Word document (.doc or .docx).

· Any charts, pictures, etc. must be put in an appendix, and do not count toward the minimum number of pages

· References

· A minimum of 7 scholarly references must be used.

· All references must be from the past SEVEN years.

· As a research paper, students must utilize and properly cite references within the text of the paper; without such references the paper is merely an opinion.

· A complete reference section, properly formatted according to APA standards, must be included at the end of your paper.

Assessment of the Assignment

Please refer to the grading rubric for this assignment.

The paper must be submitted to the correct link by Sunday of Week 7 (11:59 pm ET); no late work is accepted or graded.

Regarding Plagiarism –(this applies to all work submitted in this course)

Failure to cite all sources used in your papers, or plagiarism of any kind will result in a grade of zero. Plagiarism occurs when a student either includes the words of others in a paper without properly attributing the source, or ‘cuts and pastes’ from a source directly into a paper without including quotation marks with source attribution.

Suggested SCHEDULE for RESEARCH PROJECT:

Dissociative Disorders and Trauma
13 schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders

learning objectives 13

· 13.1 What are the symptoms of schizophrenia?

· 13.2 What is the prevalence of schizophrenia and when does it begin? Who is most affected?

· 13.3 What are the risk and causal factors associated with schizophrenia?

· 13.4 How is the brain affected in schizophrenia?

· 13.5 What neurotransmitters are implicated in schizophrenia?

· 13.6 Why is the family environment important for the well-being of patients with schizophrenia?

· 13.7 What is the clinical outcome of schizophrenia and how is it treated?

Emilio: “Eating Wires and Lighting Fires” Emilio is a 40-year-old man who looks 10 years younger. He is brought to the hospital, his 12th hospitalization, by his mother because she is afraid of him. He is dressed in a ragged overcoat, bedroom slippers, and a baseball cap, and he wears several medals around his neck. His affect ranges from anger at his mother (“She feeds me shit … what comes out of other people’s rectums”) to a giggling, obsequious seductiveness toward the interviewer. His speech and manner have a childlike quality, and he walks with a mincing step and exaggerated hip movements. His mother reports that he stopped taking his medication about a month ago and has since begun to hear voices and to look and act more bizarrely. When asked what he has been doing, he says “eating wires and lighting fires.” His spontaneous speech is often incoherent and marked by frequent rhyming and clang associations (where sounds, rather than meaningful relationships, govern word choice).

Emilio’s first hospitalization occurred after he dropped out of school at age 16, and since that time he has never been able to attend school or hold a job. He has been treated with neuroleptics (medications used to treat schizophrenia) during his hospitalizations, but he doesn’t continue to take his medications when he leaves, so he quickly becomes disorganized again. He lives with his elderly mother, but he sometimes disappears for several months at a time and is eventually picked up by the police as he wanders the streets. (Modified from Spitzer et al., 2002 , pp. 189–90.)

The disorder that Emilo has is called schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a severe disorder that is often associated with considerable impairments in functioning. This chapter describes the pieces of the schizophrenia puzzle as we currently know them. Keep in mind from the outset that not all of the pieces or their presumed interconnections have been found, so our puzzle is far from being solved. As you read through this chapter you will learn just how complex and challenging this disorder is—not only for patients who suffer from it and for their families who try to care for them, but also for the clinicians who attempt to treat it and the researchers who are determined to understand it.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia occurs in people from all cultures and from all walks of life. The disorder is characterized by an array of diverse symptoms, including extreme oddities in perception, thinking, action, sense of self, and manner of relating to others. However, the hallmark of schizophrenia is a significant loss of contact with reality, referred to as psychosis . Although the clinical presentation of schizophrenia differs from one patient to another, the case of Emilio is quite typical.

learning objectives 8

· 8.1 What are somatic symptom disorders?

· 8.2 What is illness anxiety disorder?

· 8.3 What is conversion disorder (functional neurological symptom disorder)?

· 8.4 What is the difference between a factitious disorder and malingering?

· 8.5 What are the primary features of dissociative disorders?

· 8.6 What is depersonalization/derealization disorder?

· 8.7 What is dissociative amnesia?

· 8.8 What is dissociative identity disorder?

Have you ever had the experience, particularly during a time of serious stress, when you felt like you were walking around in a daze or like you just weren’t all there? Or have you known people who constantly complained about being sure they had a serious illness even though medical tests failed to show anything wrong? Both of these are examples of mild dissociative and somatic symptoms experienced at least occasionally by many people. However, when these symptoms become frequent and severe and lead to significant distress or impairment, a somatic symptom or dissociative disorder may be diagnosed. Somatic symptom disorders (formerly known as somatoform disorders ) and dissociative disorders appear to involve more complex and puzzling patterns of symptoms than those we have so far encountered. As a result, they confront the field of psychopathology with some of its most fascinating and difficult challenges. Unfortunately, however, we do not know much about them—in part because many of them are quite rare and difficult to study.

As we have seen ( Chapter 6 ), both somatic symptom and dissociative disorders were once included with the various anxiety disorders (and neurotic depression) under the general rubric neuroses, where anxiety was thought to be the underlying cause of all neuroses whether or not the anxiety was experienced overtly. But in 1980, when DSM-III abandoned attempts to link disorders together on the basis of hypothesized underlying causes (as with neurosis) and instead focused on grouping disorders together on the basis of overt symptomatology, the anxiety, mood, somatic symptom, and dissociative disorders each became separate categories.

Problem Statement: Describe the social problem selected for your paper.

Psychology homework help

I have a assignment thats due

Final Paper PreparationTo prepare for your Final Paper (due in Week Five), complete the following assignment and submit it to your instructor for feedback. Your paper should include a problem statement, outline, and annotated bibliography.

Problem Statement: Describe the social problem selected for your paper.

Outline: Using the sample below as a guide, provide an outline for your Final Paper. Remember that papers are expected to define a significant problem faced by the justice system, describe the scope and consequences of the problem, and discuss society’s responses to the problem (including public policies and other less formal responses). Your paper should also present a clearly reasoned alternative, supported by scholarly research.

Title

Abstract

What is the problem? Be sure to narrow your problem enough to allow a focused examination.

What are the individual and social implications of this problem? Discussion of implications should be supported by accurate research data.

What do the experts say about the problem?

What have we, as a society, done about this problem? Consider public policies and other, less formal responses.

How are public policies and other, less formal responses working?

Describe an alternative solution to the problem.

Discuss why the alternative is, or can be, an effective response to the problem. Remember to consider negative consequences of the alternative response.

Conclude with your thoughts about your chosen social problem. This is a good place to include personal opinions, assuming you wish to share them in a research paper.

References

In short, define a problem, discuss the response, and provide alternative responses to the problem. For example, your problem could be drug use/abuse, with a focus on prescription drug abuse among teenagers. Your description of the problems should be fact based, relying on expert opinion. Your alternative can be an adjustment of current policy or a new direction. For example, you may propose longer prison sentences, or legalization of all drugs. Be creative, although suggestions must be supported by scholarly research.

Annotated Bibliography: The purpose of creating a list of sources is to assist you in organizing and evaluating your research. The list should include the following information for each source (minimum of five):

Name of the source, including the complete bibliographic citation in proper APA format.

Summary of the source (at least one paragraph) including how this source will contribute to your paper.

The paper must be three to five pages in length and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least five scholarly resources (at least three of which can be found in the Ashford Online Library) other than the textbook to support your claims and sub-claims. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page. For information regarding APA samples and tutorials, visit the Ashford Writing Center, within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar, in your online course.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Thesis And Statistics – Psychology

Psychology homework help

1. Provide an original example of an experimental study (make one up). Be thorough in your description. Describe the independent and dependent variables, as well as what you might hypothesize about the relationship between them?

2. For Question 1, would a between- or within-subjects design be preferable? Why?

3. Provide an original example of a correlational study (make one up). Would you expect a positive or negative correlation to characterize this relationship?

4. For Question 3, why would this not be an example of an experimental study design?

5. Find an empirical article that reports results of either an experimental or correlational study (HINT: use one of those words as a search term). I strongly suggest using the PsycArticles database. Copy and paste the abstract for this study here.

6. You just found out that the incoming administration has decided to make a severe policy decision based on a study which revealed a p-value of .35. What would you say to the administration about the reliability of this finding? Would you encourage them to take it seriously or to ignore it?

7. Why do you think the cut-off for statistical significance is set at 5% uncertainty (HINT: there is no right answer here, and no suggestion provided in the slides)?

8. You are told that the correlation between attractiveness and number of accepted dates is +.60 and that this result is statistically significant at p = .02. Explain this finding in everyday language to someone who does not understand correlations.

9. Provide an original example of a non-linear relationship (HINT: look back to last week’s slides for help on this one). What do you think the correlation between these two variables would be?

10. Find an empirical article that reports a correlation (HINT: use the word “correlation” as a search term). I strongly suggest using the PsycArticles database. Take a screenshot of where that correlation is reported in the paper and paste the picture here. Then, interpret this correlation in everyday language.

THE CASE OF CHARLES

Week 2 – Discussion

11 unread reply.11 reply.

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Assessment and Diagnosis “Under the Gun”

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review Standard 9: Assessment (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. in the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct and DSM-5.

It is recommended that you read Chapters 4, 7, and 10 in the Sommers-Flanagan and Sommers-Flanagan (2015) e-book, Clinical Interviewing, as well as the Kielbasa, Pomerantz, Krohn, and Sullivan (2004) “How Does Clients’ Method of Payment Influence Psychologists’ Diagnostic Decisions?” and the Pomerantz and Segrist (2006) “The Influence of Payment Method on Psychologists’ Diagnostic Decisions Regarding Minimally Impaired Clients” articles for further information about how payment method influences the assessment and diagnosis process.

For this discussion, you will assume the role of a clinical or counseling psychologist and diagnose a hypothetical client. Begin by reviewing the PSY650 Week Two Case StudiesPreview the document document and select one of the clients to diagnose.

In your initial post, compare the assessments typically used by clinical and counseling psychologists, and explain which assessment techniques (e.g., tests, surveys, interviews, client records, observational data) you might use to aid in your diagnosis of your selected client. Describe any additional information you would need to help formulate your diagnosis, and propose specific questions you might ask the client in order to obtain this information from him or her. Identify which theoretical orientation you would use with this client and explain how this orientation might influence the assessment and/or diagnostic process. Using the DSM-5 manual, propose a diagnosis for the client in the chosen case study.

Analyze the case and your agency’s required timeline for diagnosing from an ethical perspective. Considering the amount of information you currently have for your client, explain whether or not it is ethical to render a diagnosis within the required timeframe. Evaluate the case and describe whether or not it is justifiable in this situation to render a diagnosis in order to obtain a third party payment.

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers who chose a different case than you by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

In your responses, evaluate whether your peer took into account the ethical guidelines outlined in the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologist and Code of Conduct when he or she assessed and diagnosed the client. Suggest additional questions your peer might ask the client. Propose an alternative diagnosis that might arise from the additional questions you have suggested.
